The Northman
(2022)

Anyone comparing this to Gladiator need their head checked
Ugly, cheap and pretentious. Started off good but overuse of Norse mythology with corny witches brought the film to a grinding halt. The end fight was a joke.

Avengers: Infinity War
(2018)

Exceeds Expectations
While the specials effects are spectacular, it's the writing, the overarching plot and how everything comes together so organically after so many years that makes this phase exceed the superhero genre. No spoilers, but this movie subverts every Hollywood movie cliche that has ever preceded it and proves you can produce works of art in any genre.

3rd Rock from the Sun
(1996)

Timeless Comedy
In terms of half-hour comedy sitcom formats, this has to rank as one of the funniest ever made. Granted, there's no references to social media, Internet memes, and it might be a bit jarring to see characters without smart phones at first, but the show is just as funny today as it was in its original run back in the 90s/00s.

The show never gets old despite watching it multiple times over the years. Such a brilliantly written show.

The Many Saints of Newark
(2021)

stupida facking film
The Sopranos is one of the greatest TV shows ever made. It delved into the mind of a sociopath and explored family, life and the human experience like no other TV show had done before it.

This film, however, is superficial, banal and shamelessly exploits nostalgia for a quick money grab. There is no story to speak of, no underlying themes..."It's all a big nothing!"

Man of Steel
(2013)

The Day I Stopped Trusting Critics
This movie was dishonestly mauled by critics and reviewers simply because it was directed by Snyder. Watching this again in 2020, I have to say this will go down as a classic in years to come. It's an absolute blast from start to finish and is one of the most loyal adaptations and faithful to the Superman lore found in DC comics. One of its greatest achievements was the magnificent depiction of Krypton and giving Zod the gravitas and motivation that he lacked in Superman II. You felt empathy for him. Shannon was outstanding in his portrayal of Zod; up there with Ledger's Joker.

I remember people actually complained about the level of destruction in this movie and the excessive use of special effects, but for me this is what makes a Superman movie. Take off your nostalgia tinted glasses and watch this with an open mind. This is the greatest Superman movie bar none.
