Avatar: The Way of Water
(2022)

Way too long
Visually this movie is spectacular. There is so much detail and love that goes into the world and the things that live in it.

It truly is a joy to behold.

With that being said.

It's goes on for entirely too long. There are extended periods that slow the movie down and make you loose interest. Most of its world building and revolves around na'vi teenagers. But it drags on for way too long and you grow tired of it.

The focus on the na'vi teens is a strange one and gives the movie a "for young adults" feel.

The action sequences are well done and tight. Again you can see that some truly skilled people were attached to this project. There is the odd choise here and there that makes you question the writing, but you can largely forgive that.

All things considered it was a fairly entertaining movie. It just runs too long and focuses on teenage angst a little bit too much.

So far, so good
Thus far only episode 1 has been released. So this is an intial reaction that I will revisit and update once the season is concluded.

I was pleasantly surprised but the first episode. It was a charming and funny origin episode that doesn't take itself too seriously.

The pacing feel good and the story never lagged.

It made me genuinely interested to see where the story goes from here.

As for all the negative reviews the show has gotten thus far. I can only assume that there are alot on insecure, young males watching that feel threatened by a woman having these kinds of powers. We are commonly feed stories where many female protagonists need help from male counterparts to get the job done. This now being that makes these guys feel insecure.

It's a shame because so far this show deserves much more than that.

Good, but not great
Filling the shoes of the three previous movies is no easy task. And I kinda doubt that this far along it is even possible to achieve. Never the less I went to see this movie yesterday, having no real expectations on what it would be.

The movie holds up on it's own. Solid acting, story is good and the action is top notch. The problem for me was, however, the action. This movie seemed to focus more on the action than the previous installments in the Indy series. I missed the mystical aspect more. The puzzles, the wow factor of it all. It was there but was in much smaller amounts than what we are used to.

I'd still say that it's cinema worthy, but it does not have the same level as the former three.

A good way to spend an evening
I had no expectations when I started watching this movie. I had some time on my hands and it seemed decent enough to kill some time with. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised.

The idea around the movie isn't all that unique but it delivers it with an atmosphere and style that is nothing short of wonderful. The acting in this little gem is top notch. The setting itself enhances the story and events that take place, and with minimal special fx I might add. I am somewhat of a veteran to the chiller movie genre, but this one did send a shiver or two down my spine. Nice to see something that can provoke a reaction without relying heavily on gore.

All around I would say that it is well worth watching.
