Safety with Scissors
(2002)

Wow.
This is a cool movie and it's educational too. I love it! Yeahhh! The part where the blood squirts out was awesome. It really made me sick. I even heard that they used real pigs blood for that scene. I wish more short films could be done like this one. The story is very original too. Billy is a boy who loves to play with scissors, but he doesn't realize how dangerous they are. The movie suggests that Billy is a spoiled kid. This movie goes where other educational films never dared to go. It also has a funny edge to it. We use scissors everyday, but we never stop think how dangerous they can be for our children. A movie with a message is just as a great as an entertaining movie. This movie delivers on both notes.

Surviving the Streets
(2002)

Compelling
This movie was quite an endearing project, and I can't wait to see it again! It makes you feel for the subjects of the movie while it dispels many rumors about homeless. This one really hits close to home.

Lethal Force
(2001)

This movie will rock your world.
I had the good fortune of catching a screening of this film at this year's Tromadance Film Festival in Park City Utah. This movie is the quintessential exploitation-flick satire. It goofs on everything from A Better Tomorrow to Terms of Endearment. Or was was that Foxy Brown it was making fun of? At any rate, gorehounds, fans of hong kong cinema, and even the ladies can all enjoy this film immensely. There is something for everybody in this gem. I also was fortunate enough to meet the writer/director Alvin Ecarma, and I found him to be a passionate filmmaker with obviously very large aspirations. This assessment proves once again Filipino Directors from Washington DC are indeed second to none in the world of moviemaking. Can't wait until the sequel!!!

Almost Famous
(2000)

The best rock movie of all time.
Almost famous is a deeply personal and original story from Cameron Crowe. I have never experienced a rock and roll movie this intimate before and this is truly a unique film. I highly recommend the Almost Famous "Untitled" DVD bootleg version that was just released a couple weeks ago. There are many great extras on both discs and the Directors Cut of almost famous is an even better movie with the 35 minutes of extra footage that has been restored to the movie. It is a must have for all film students and DVD collectors alike.

Dogs
(1977)

A truly fantastic Sci-fi cinematic masterpiece.
I was lucky enough to find a bootleg copy of this gem. To see some of Robert Schneiders legendary rare cinematography (uncredited) was truly an a life-changing experience. It's sad that he died from aids (he was one of the first Americans to contract this disease) shortly after the production wrapped. However, he obviously went out with a bang and he will be immortalized through this film. Dogs is so hard to find because it is such a rare film that if you find you just have to hold on to it. I hope this film eventually goes to DVD and it has the proper credit for Robert Schneider. On a scale from 1 to 10 I give this movie an 11. Go find Dogs. You won't regret it! For my name ain't Nathan Arizona!

Gone in Sixty Seconds
(2000)

horrible to say the least
Here is another God-awful big budget piece of junk from Hollywood. The action was like every other Summer blockbuster and the dialogue was ridiculous. The screenwriter was obviously a WGA hack and director Dominic Sena has only made one good film ("Kalifornia",check it out) in his entire MTV video filled career. So these days he merely creates stylish movies with no story structure. While I have never seen the original I will still recommend that you watch that film instead because it couldn't possibly be any worse than this hip pop-culture modern version. I gave this movie 1 star out of 10 because there is no 0 rating, but this movie doesn't even deserve the star that I gave it.

American Psycho
(2000)

Brilliant!
American Psycho is a brilliant satire from Master Director Mary Harron. This proves that females are more than able to make great works of art in this medium. An eeie adaptation to an inferior novel. This was the best movie of the year 2000 and should have garnered an Oscar at the biased academy awards. This film wins points in the indy world for it's hard-edged in-your-face filmmaking and dazzling cinematography (by Andrzej Sekula). Not to mention a wonderfully detailed and un-apologetic screenplay from Ms Harron and Gueniviere Turner. This film gives hope to the lovers on Cinema and proves that meaningful breakthrough work can still be created. Last but not least the performance from Christian Bale was quite amazing in a world of no-talent hollywood hacks. Patrick Bateman for president!

Breakin'
(1984)

A classic?!
This film is a classic? What you been smokin' girl?! I decided to give this movie a 2 star rating out of 10 because at least it is very funny. This is probably the funniest movie ever without trying. The cheesy eighties clothing that is trying to pass for street clothing of the period was great! If you like to watch movies strictly for the cheese factor and horrible acting, then this is the movie for you. Break it down Bobby Brown!

Dip huet seung hung
(1989)

Thank You Mr Woo!
This is not only the best John Woo film to date. This is the greatest film of all time. Now I know this may only be opinion, but "The Killer" is hands-down the best film I ever had the honor to experience. Now I could go on for days about this glorious achievement from John Woo, but I won't bore you with the details. This movie is truly an experience that I recommend that all lovers of The Cinema (mainstream and arthouse) should have. This movie contains the trademark "restless camera" of John Woo and a twisted diabolical plot too complex to put in words. I admit that upon viewing this film for the first time I still enjoyed hard-boiled more for the cutthroat action and sheer balls of the movie. After the first viewing I found myself watching this movie over and over again. I came to realize that it wasn't because of the action, but because of the incredible story and beautifully framed shots. This is obviously the most personal work yet from John Woo (he also wrote the screenplay) and it shows. I can only hope to create half the magic that this film has created. For me this feat seems like an impossibility, but if I can accomplish just that then I can die a happy man. Thank you John Woo for giving the world "The Killer".
