The Way We Were
(1973)

Good chemistry, but awful plot and boring
Robert Redford and Barbra Straisand have good chemistry and its believable they could fall for each other, however the plot drags out and is boring.

Too much feminism and it gets in the way of the romance. I don't mind a lady being active and caring politically, but when you sit down for dinner and can't stop talking about your causes, it gets frustrating to watch!!

Maybe that's why Mr. Redford turned down the movie on 3 separate occasions! The love story is bland!! It's so hard to want these characters to be together when she put political causes over her husband, and he just doesnt care to fix any issues.

I personally believe Barbra is a better singer than actress, as I didn't care for the 76 version of A Star is Born either. The title song is fine and touching, but the movie just is not.

This is probably my least favorite Pollack-Redford collaboration, and I have not seen Havana yet.

Legal Eagles
(1986)

One of Mr. Redford's worst movies
The 80s were an interesting time for movies. I was born in 1996, so I completely missed out on the decade. I always say I like the music better than the movies from this decade.

Such is the case with this movie, Sir Rod Stewart's Love Touch is much better than the movie.

The script is terrible. The wardrobe is awful. Debra Winger is not a likable actress. And the montage of Debra and RR is random. RR is cute singing along to Singin in the rain, and is funny while playing paddle ball, skiing and riding a tricycle around his apartment! Then we intercut to Debra eating junk food in bed, gross combo foods. The way she ate the hot dog and the chicken- DISGUSTING! My mom was watching with me and I asked her, "Was Debra trying to be sexy??" My mom said, "No that was just gross"

Not a fan of Daryl Hannah either, she can't even act.

Bob tried his hardest but the script was just not there. The bizarre nonsense plot of trying to find the painting and Hannah's character was just there to be "hot" and get w Redford in Bed.

The scene that made me bust out laughing due to ridiculousness was the bomb in the warehouse. Terrible pacing, it was awful, not to mention the forklift to bust of out the locked warehouse. My mom mentioned this was an era in which men still doubled for women with intense stunts, and pointed out Debra's male stunt double to me- I was shocked how obivious it was!

Just skip it, because Bob's acting wasn't cute and he has no chemistry with either of these half baked leading ladies. Maybe if Jane Fonda was his leading lady, we would all forgive the God- awful plot! Chemistry really can make or break a movie, and this movie broke it

Not to mention- for Elmer Bernstein to do the score, what was a veteran like him thinking? He did things like the Magnificent 7, and then did something odd here, so off, the score music was not great!!!!

The Secret Circle
(2011)

Sadly 1 and done
Sophomore year, THIS WAS MY SHOW. 2011 was a good year. I watched every episode as it was airing AND was absolutely gutted when it was cancelled after 1 season What attracted me to watch was Phoebe Tonkin from H2O, but then I got into the whole cast, Gale Harold being here too, as another lawyer :) and Diana's dad ALSO was awesome! (GALE is just awesome as a lawyer, pulls it off)

I did read the original trilogy of books, within the first 5 episodes of the show airing on tv.

Cassie Blake was a normal teen until her mom dies in the pilot episode. She's forced to move to Chance Harbor to live with her grandma, in the house her mom grew up. Soon after she discovers her heritage that she, along with 5 other teens: Diana, Faye, Melissa, Nick and Adam, form a coven of witches.

I also enjoyed the romance aspect, as it's basically interwoven in the plot: Adam's dad was in love with Cassie's mom, it didnt work out. Now, Adam's dad believes Cassie and Adam are fated to be together, but the slight problem is Adam is with Diana. That was actually a Good triangle because Diana was not annoying. Also it's always fun when its kids vs adults, and what the other is planning.

The show struggled a little bit with its plotting in the front half of the season, but towards the end, it really, really picked up. The beginning had some slow moving plots like binding the circle's magic, bully witches, demonic possession, silly b plot love triangles while all interesting, were incohesive plots.

Midway through, the witch hunters were a good plot that I'm glad stayed around. The boatyard fire backstory that killed their parents, the Balcoin dark magic backstory, finding the Crystals to assemble to skull, the half sibling reveal, were all fantastic plot points, in the latter half. Of course the ending twist of the other circles of balcoin kids coming for the circle- BEST CLIFF HANGER EVER!

Unfortunately, the show was cancelled. The network cited declining audience, and costs of special effects as reasons why. Fan campaigns to renew the show were also unsuccessful. I remember, I signed some petitions!

All these years later, I think the show stands as one of those that stand out as a 1 season only show.

I will admit, I think Thomas Dekker was miscast as Adam. Adam in the books was a total all american guy, whereas Thomas Dekker on the show was a bit too emo as Adam. Dont get me wrong, I like his acting, and his character on the show but total mismatch of character approach. That mismatch left the show without a strong leading man. I mean Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley on TVD were HALF the reasons to watch TVD!

Maybe one day, we will get a Secret circle reunion and the cast and producers will say what could have happened. I'd be open for it!

Drake & Josh
(2004)

Best Nick Sitcom ever made
Most shows in the early 2000s / early 2010s came with a terrible trend of chasing fame or wanting to be famous , or living insane lifestyles of a rich person. ICarly, Victorious, Zoey 101, Hannah Montana, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, even Australian TV show Dance Academy all fell victim to this trend. All of those shows had kids either chasing fame, being famous, or living rich lifestyles.

Drake and Josh does not. Drake and Josh is a simple premise of 2 opposite boys becoming step brothers, and family. Going to school, dealing with problems of growing up, it was relatable to every kid who watched the show because the kids out there also had the same issues: family, school, crushes. No cheap gimmicks of living in a hotel (suite life), or attending a prestigious school living without a parental unit (dance academy and zoey 101 qualify, and victorious contains the prestigious school element), or becoming famous overnight as a popstar (hannah montana) or web show host (icarly), D&J was all normal everyday life.

It rises above the rest of the kids shows being made during that era. The humor was the star because the plot was so simple. You could take it in different directions with fun memorable scenarios. The tree house episode, Grammy, Battle of Panthatar, Helen's surgery, josh runs into oprah, are ALL CLASSICS. I'm sure there's more.

Drake Bell singing the theme song also kicked off an era in which 1 main character from the show sings the theme song, but the difference is Drake actually sings in real life, and is still doing music to this day. Miranda Cosgrove no longer does music. Victoria Justice doesn't either (although, I hear she's getting back into it).

I do admit, of all of Dan Schneider's shows this one is the least heavy of the creepiness. Maybe that's because the leads are 2 males, rather than females. That's why it cannot be a 10, because of DS's involvement.

Overall, this is the one Nickeloden tv show still worth watching as an adult.

Enchanted
(2007)

Cute, but annoying at the same time
Enchanted has a great concept that incorporates what Disney does best: musical numbers and animation.

Amy Adams does a fantastic job as Giselle, and Patrick Demspey makes a great unexpected non-Disney Disney prince! Idina Menzel and James Masrsden all give smashing performances as well.

What I hated as a kid, however cannot stomach as an adult is the Pip storyline. While Pip is a cute animated character, I hated the mumbling animated version of the real life Pip, a la, Alvin and the Chipmunks style (which was popular in theaters around this time in 2007 too). THAT WAS FREAKIN' IRRITATING!

As a kid I thought, oh ok, I can get through this, but as an adult, I just can not watch the movie because of it. It takes up too much time plot wise, and looking back, they should have made him just plain mute. He can be there animated, but make him mute like they did in Pochantas with their animal sidekicks, that would have been better.

The music is the most memorable part of the while movie: That's how you Know is amazing and classic, and while I'm personally not a fan of Happy Working Song, it works for the context.

I'm glad I saw it in theaters as a kid, but overall, it could have been made moreso for Disney adults who still love Disney, yet are kids at heart, rather than JUST ONLY kids. The chipmunk plot is all the evidence you need to know it was made for a kids audience, and their parents got dragged along, finding humor and enjoyment in other elements.

17 Again
(2009)

Loved it as a teen, Cringe as an adult
17 Again is a movie I saw opening weekend on April 18 2009 on the ultra screen. I was totally in love with Zac around that era, and YES, the car scene was the hottest scene I'd ever saw up to that point in my life.

I recall watching it with my mother on dvd when it was released, and my mother hated it. She grimaced through the whole thing, and said it was so goofy and stupid. I disagreed saying Zac was great. She didn't agree.

Now as an adult, I only agree with her. The cafeteria scene, the health class scene, the daughter tries to seduce her father scene = PURE CRINGE.

Yes we have Zac dancing in the opening scene, yes, we have Zac looking physically great, but the movie doesn't hold a charm for me anymore.

I wish I felt differently, but it felt as if the writers and director were trying to only make a movie to make Zac look hot, rather than focus on the heart of the story and emotion. That's the appalling part, the story was pushed aside only for a young teen superstar to continue his reign.

High School Musical 2
(2007)

Summer 2007: HSM2
I was nearly 11 years old on premeire date on August 17 2007, I was 10 days from my birthday. I was naturally excited to see this and as tween, I did think it was great.

I just watched this recently again at the age of 27, and It's CRINGE. While the dances, singing, and choreography are creative and strong, the plot is horrible.

First off, Troy's family appears to be upper middle class, by the looks of the house, and have no problem paying for college. Sharpay goads him into college scholarships and that has no appeal for the audience, just annoyance.

Secondly, If Troy really is serious about pursuing Gabriella, why does he take her for granted??? Just one song, 'Everyday' and automatically they are reunited and they love each other again.

Plus Sharpay, Ashley's acting is soooo campy. Sharpay treats everyone like they are beneath her, and it has nothing to do with performing, it's just about being rich.

On the plus side we have Zac Efron's own voice and it's great to hear it. I nit-pick, but I hate the super dark hair on him, and always have. I know it was still getting back to his normal color after being dyed jet black for Hairspray, but the dark dark hair washes out his face. Zac's caramel colored hair is much better.

The dancing, and songs are the best part of this movie. Or am I just under a spell of nostalgia??? Are the songs as really as memorable as I remember them to be??? Music really is a powerful force.

Anyways, I sometimes wish I never got into HSM as a kid, it would mean I could just let it go now as an adult, instead of using it as an emotional crutch.

Paging Mr. Darcy
(2024)

Yet another terrible result of when Hallmark tries Jane Austen
The best part about this movie is Will Kemp acting as a Mr Darcy for a Jane Austen convention. That is really charming and he pulls off the aloofness, the outfit, and is so believable as a guy playing Mr Darcy.

The rest is cringe. Mallory's character is so unlikable and rude, to the point where you don't care about her. The sister side plot: super annoying. The actress playing the sister, she played her so over the top, and irritating!!

While Mallory and Will COULD have been a great screen couple, the writing is unfortunately terrible. Plus, she's just so nasty to him. When they kiss at the end, you don't even believe it, nor are you wanting for it to happen.

I hate it when Hallmark tries to re-do something classic, or put their own spin on something that's already perfect. This is another example of that. Just don't waste your time.

Charlie St. Cloud
(2010)

I didn't enjoy this even when I saw it in theaters
First off, when I was 13/14 summer 2010, I considered myself a Zac fan. I'm not into Hairspray, but loved HSM and 17 Again. I was 14 by the time I saw this movie in theaters, with my best friend.

I just re-watched this for the first time in many years, as now I'm 27.

Even as a 14 year old girl, I thought Zac and Amanda had ZERO chemistry whatsoever. The romance is pivotal to the story, in which Charlie is willing to give up his ability to see Sam due to his love for Tess, and I never believed the romance was present on screen. Their kiss scene in the boathouse, then their love scene in the graveyard was CRINGE not romantic, even as a teen I thought that.

Secondly, actor Charlie Tahon has no magnetic presence as young Sam. He's more annoying than charming. And Sam and Charlie as brothers, just no brotherly love that is believable.

Plus, The twist, does not make any sense. I remember the moment Tess is walking with her dog and its revealed to the audience she's in danger and now a spirit, I was in disbelief. My friend and I turned to each other with, "WHAT, I'M CONFUSED" looks.

Here's one thing that changed: Zac does not charm me anymore with this performance. At 14 his acting is what saved the movie for me, at 27, not so much. No charisma, no redeeming qualities as his character I realize is supposed to be repressed and sad, but there's just nothing to make you root for him. Zac can't do serious drama, and is clueless on his to handle it.

I always wished Zac would have been more of a serious leading man, but now I know why he never became that, he just does not have the capability to do it.

A Picture of Her
(2023)

Tyler's worst hallmark movie?
I thought this movie was gonna be so different according to the premise. I thought Tyler was a journalist who snaps a picture of the girl, just doing random pictures, she sees the picture gets famous, then they try to spend the rest of the movie looking for each other. I thought it would be she doesn't know who took the pic, and he doesn't know who the girl is, but they are looking to find each other. That would have been a cute premise!

Instead we have Tyler's character working as the paparazzi, which is stupid. Add on the fact he flat out lies to her when asked about the picture. No. Just no.

I did enjoy Tyler riding the motorcycle, he pulls it off! And the actors worked well, just the script needed serious help.

Maybe just watch a clip montage of Tyler riding the motorcycle on youtube, but overall, skip this!!

The Wedding Cottage
(2023)

Boring, no chemistry, no humor
It seems the Hallmark movies in 2023 are trying too hard to be funny, it's a trend I have been noticing even in late 2022.

An embarrassing scene involves Erin and a leaf blower- it was a waste of time, not funny or cute. If that's the hallmark way of humor, I'm not here for it.

Erin and Brendan have ZERO chemistry. You don't care about their relationship. In fact, Erin comes off as extremely annoying, and Brendan comes off as a rude jerk.

The story about fixing up the wedding cottage is also just super boring, you're not emotionally invested in it, or the couple who wants to have their wedding there.

Don't waste your life with this one, just skip it, watch something better with your precious time!

Feeling Butterflies
(2022)

Great Chemistry, Poor story/plot
Let me say Kevin and Kayla do have great chemistry: I mean they are dating in real life. Their scenes are well played together.

However, this script is so bad. First off, why in these hallmark movies does the "mean girl" who is always an adult, act like a juvienille child?? Its really embarrassing and you ask yourself, is this the way we portray people we don't get along with, as these mean girls who are outrageous and want their way or the highway?

Emily's rivalry with the mean girl is just a waste of time.

Secondly- all of the CGI butterflies was sad too, as others have mentioned.

Give the actors better scripts to work with, it cant be that difficult.

The Wedding Veil
(2022)

Kevin's Boston Accent- No!
Kevin McGarry plays a character who grew up in Boston, which is not a problem, but what is a problem is his usage or therefore lack of usage of the accent. It comes and goes- and when he does use it it's really embarrassing because you can tell it's not natural. He should have done the same thing as Lacey did: just not use one at all (as Lacey's character was also from Boston).

Overall I think Kevin and Lacey have good chemistry the who plot was just silly. Him assuming she had a boyfriend dragged out for far too long, and it's a bit immature for a grown man to not be direct about such situations.

As time goes on Hallmark has made their male characters so dim- whitted. It's sad as the charm is you need both your leading lady and your leading man to make these movies work, not a dumb leading man who only looks pretty. We all know Kevin is an intelligent actor so why make him dumb? For laughs? I don't think so.

This plot was so unengaging I'm not going to even bother to watch the other two installments. However I would love to see Kevin and Lacey work together on another project with a better script- it would be good as they both work well together.

A Tail of Love
(2022)

I wanted to love this
The positives: Chris McNally, DOGS!, Brittney Bristowe. All of these make the movie worth watching. Chris and Brittney have good chemistry and Indie the dog was Absolutely so adorable! She won over my heart! And Indie's backstory broke my heart, but it was happy when she found a new owner in Chris's character!

Now the bad/ negatives: the antagonist: she was actually annoying to the point it was cringe inducing. The "oh I'm tired of active duty, so instead I'll just tell the military I want a desk job" easy way out. I'm so sick of this. The military does not bend to you, you bend to them. The pacing was also super slow. And while I said Chris and Britney had good chemistry, it's under-used here because of the material they are working with.

I really wanted to love this plot but the script was just a mess. I'm glad I saw it, because there are some cute moments, but I won't need to watch it again and again. Indie the dog I will say makes this a watch it once movie though!

Hamish Macbeth
(1995)

Robert Carlyle's best tv show- and his first lead
While Robert Carlyle did guest star appearances on tv shows in the early/ mid 90s, Hamish Macbeth was his first leading role on a tv show . He would go on to have 3 other tv shows so far (as of 2022) as a main character: Stargate Universe, Once upon a time, and Cobra. Of all of those, I've only seen Once upon a time, and while that show exposed me to his acting, by far its weaker than Hamish.

Hamish Macbeth is based on books by MC Beaton, and while it may upset some people it doesn't follow the books (I have not read them) separately, it's great. Hamish is a laid back guy who loves westerns, his dog Jock, and hanging out with the local townsfolk.

The town of Lochdubh is a little bit eccentric but that is the full charm! Add in the fact NO ACTOR- waters down their Scottish accent and you've got one brilliant program! What's even cooler is that at the 2019 Belfast film festival Carlyle, during a Q&A, admitted that he had some creative control on the series and every actor from his Raindog theater company guest starred on the show, meaning he got to act/ work with his friends. This includes his final girlfriend before his wife, Caroline Paterson (who guest starred in season 3).

My favorite episodes are: West Coast story (season 1) which uses music from West side story, A bit of an epic- set on a trekking of the highlands (season 1 finale) and No man is an Island (season 2), in which Hamish helps a woman who stepped on a landmine.

The only thing is the show is 20 episodes and way too quick of a watch!

Would love it if a follow up was made set in the present day, with Hamish, Isobel and their kids- it would be really fun!

H2O: Just Add Water
(2006)

Seasons 1 and 2 are my childhood, 3 does not exist
(For context, I'm in America) Oh H2O. Let me say THIS was my favorite show when I was 11 and in 6th grade- and I was counting the moments until season 3 was released. I actually remember watching bootleg recordings of season 3 on youtube having to quickly watch them before they got taken down.

But now that I'm older and 26 (opposed to 13), I can say with confidence only seasons 1 and 2 were good. Season 3 started chasing trends (Bella has her own band- and she sings! Just like other late 2000s shows that had main character singers, Oh we have a hot sporty blonde guy in the cast now who will take his shirt off!!) and lost all the charm that made the show good.

Indiana Evans was not a good addition to the show and it ruined season 3. A note to showrunners out there: if you think you can replace a character on a kids tv show and the kids will not care, think again. Kids will actually be the most unforgiving about a replacement because they latch onto their favorite characters.

The friendship dyanmic was also ruined: you're supposed to believe after 1 episode after meeting Bella is BFFs with Cleo and Rikki? I don't think so. Granted in season 1 Emma and Cleo were early childhood best friends with Rikki being the new girl, Rikki quickly bonded with Emma and Cleo after having to share the secret they were all mermaids. Bella just automatically stepping into the role didnt feel organic or natural- just the fact Oh you're a mermaid too! Let's be friends. I didn't buy it.

The Zane character also lost all development he had in seasons 1 and 2, and making him the villain again in season 3 felt lazy.

The only thing redeeming about season 3 is Cleo and Lewis were in a good place... until Angus McLaren left too, only to be "replaced " with dull acting Luke Mitchell's character, Will.

Will was such a boring character and an awful addition to being the male friend in the group. He didn't possess the intelligence Lewis has, and just because he's sporty/ athletic does not mean he's automatically great.

To save yourself from the show's decline- just rewatch seasons 1 and 2- you'll save yourself from critiquing the show and it will instead remain a fun childhood memory.

Entertaining Christmas
(2018)

Uncharming re-hash of Christmas in Connecticut (1945)
I really hate it when Hallmark takes a classic and makes it into their own interpretation. It always turns out to be a bad and pale imitation of the classic.

This one is no different as they turn 1945's Christmas in Connecticut into their own Hallmark narrative.

I vaguely remember watching this movie, but I do remember fast forwarding through it because it was super boring.

Brendan Fahr seemed super un-engaged with the story and he always looked bored. He also lacked chemistry with Jodie. Jodie playing a character named Candice is really a fun tid bit but that's about it when it comes to having fun with the movie.

Just skip it and watch the real classic on TCM. Barbara Stanwyck and Dennis Morgan are real magic together!

Hellcats
(2010)

Unique story
This tv show is unique: for the fact it's set at College rather than a typical high school setup.

I can actually relate to Marti's character for the fact her whole world is turned upside down when her tuition is no longer covered. College is so expensive in America, many people don't even have the opportunity to go, and it was realistic when she became desperate to stay in school.

The plot as wacky as it is, actually works and you really start to care about Marti: with her terrible home life, but determined spirit to rise above and make her life better.

What I do not care for is Ashley Tisdale's acting. She's so preppy and goody two shoes, acting like she's perfect when she's really a flawed person too. Plus, she only cares about cheerleading, a bit silly and contradicting to the ultra conservative home she was raised in. The fact both Savannah and her sister were raised in an extremely southern christian household, and they both were cheerleaders is a bit odd: you'd think they wouldn't be allowed to be cheerleaders with the attitude of their mother.

All in all, what this show will be remembered for in my life is that it introduced me to Gale Harold- who is a great actor and so believable as the law Professor Julian.

Of all of Marti's love interests (and for 1 season of storytelling there were far too many: Dan, Lewis, Her classmate Morgan, and Julian) Julian was actually the one I was most interested in. There was a somewhat fascinating dynamic between them, as they started on the wrong foot, with Julian being a condescending teacher, then a friend, then a love interest.

In terms of storytelling: I think what ultimately led to cancellation was it was disjointed in the fact there were many dance/ cheer numbers and that had to be difficult to produce every week. Add on the fact the show took too long to find its groove for pacing of the narrative and sadly it got a cancellation.

Too bad too, as Marti's plot towards the back half with her finding her half sister (played by real life sister AJ) was captivating and then the big reveal her dad was still alive was steller .

Timeless
(2016)

Season 1 great, season 2 unfortunately jumps the shark
A friend recommended this show to me in 2016 and I caught up with the first 7 episodes. It was solid: history, time travelling, a mystery (what really happened to Amy and can she come back or not), and engaging characters.

Most of all it has Goran Visnjic being a cool mysterious, bad ass "villian" who is not really a villain at all. I have a soft spot for Goran- he's always been cool, and a great actor!

When season 1 was cancelled the outcry was insane- And it took 5 days but the fans pleas were heard: Don't cancel the show. NBC and the powers that be gave the show a second chance and everyone was super excited!

Unfortunately season 2 dropped the ball. They took the storyline and went off the rails: Lucy's mom went in a different direction that didn't have a payoff of what was setup in season 1. They even brought Jessica- Wyatt's deceased wife- back from the dead only to cause problems in the romance plot with Lucy. It really wasn't relevant to the plot and I feel they decided to make her a part of Rittenhouse only to justify her return and relevance to the story. Then they kill off Rufus for no reason. But if you know Eric Kripke from Supernatural- you know characters do not stay dead (greated I didn't watch Supernatural, but my mom and sister did, and you learn a lot about it if you know someone who is a fan) While I was not going to quit the show as the characters still had me invested, I'll say I wasn't shocked when it was cancelled a second time and I didn't participate in fan campaigns to bring the show back for a wrap up.

When it did come back it was satisfying to see an ending- as many shows do not get endings- but overall, I'm happy to let this show stay in the past for what it was.

The Originals
(2013)

Season 1 was solid, the rest was horrible
Let me start off by saying the premise for the Originals was not what most fans envisioned initially for the show. Many fans wanted Kol to be a part of the main narrative when instead he was regulated to guest star status. Also- I think many fans didn't want Hayley as a part of the narrative, as Phoebe Tonkin's presence on the show was merely because she had fans (to be honest her character when first on TVD, was really really pointless).

Granted all of that and the changes by the time season 1 started, the story they were telling was extremely good. It had multi points of view and you could see the motives each character had for taking the actions they did. Claire Holt qutting the show was the main shocker of season 1, but I will say they managed the best they could. Remember that season 1 of the Originals was airing alongside season 5 of TVD- and the Originals was telling the stronger story that year.

Season 2 is when the story actually got stale. While it gave us the explanation of what happened to the oldest Mikaelson child Freya, the rest of the story was boring. No one cared about the Delilah and Esther storyline.

Season 3 is when I stopped caring about the show. The strix plot and the removing of the sire-lines was extremely tiresome. Add in the bad acting of characters Aurora and Tristian and the show became unrecognizable.

By season 4 I was fast forwarding on the dvr because I didnt even want to watch anymore.

And season 5, while I did watch because the show was in its final season, it contained the worst plot setups with no payoffs in the end.

No answers, and many mini arcs were seemingly abandoned to focus on the upcoming spinoff Legacies (which happily for me never watched and never will) which in turn cheated this show of a proper wrap up.

Overall 10 stars for Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies acting: they have so much better ability than what the writers could write for them. I applaud them for sticking it out as long as they did. Yet, 5 for the show!

iCarly
(2007)

IRegret my childhood
If I could go back in time to 2007, when I was aged 11, and erase one tv show from my mind it would be this one.

What you don't notice when you're a child is amazing and what you don't know about the making of such production, is even more amazing.

Now ,I have not read Jeanette's book, but I have heard about her claims and I believe them to be completely true. You think about all the stuff on the show that was probably purposely incorporated into her character: the obsessive eating, the pageant girl episode, the fact Sam and her mom didn't get along. It's really disgusting what 'the creator" did to her.

Furthermore, it's so interesting to me Miranda Cosgrove has said nothing of her time being under Dan's control. It really makes me believe she took hush money or something similar.

As for Jerry- he was a grown a man on production, perhaps Dan didn't see need to control him.

Overall, icarly may have been funny in the moment I was watching it, but, has poorly aged and you start to question what you saw in it I the first place. Nonstalgia has been called pain from an old wound, and for the first time I can see why.

Once Upon a Time
(2011)

1-3 Solid, 4-6 decline, 7 skip, But Robert Carlyle steals the show
This show. Oh this show: so many mixed feelings.

Let me be clear while I rate the show 6/10, I rate the acting higher probably at an 8/10 and give Robert Carlyle a 10/10.

Season 1 is actually the best season of the show as the writing is so clever. The curse and everyone living under the curse is just brilliant because you know the curse will be broken eventually. Season 2 while it does struggle a bit to find its footing is a good continuation of what happens after the curse is broken, with the characters picking up the pieces of their lives and starting over as their real selves. Season 3 they begin the half season arcs which I think was a bad idea- but season 3 is still solid . Neverland is a good arc and while I wasn't a major fan of Zelena and the Oz story- it was a solid story they were telling.

Season 4 is where the writing suffers due to half the season being Frozen- completely Frozen and I think the writers were out of ideas by that point. The other half with the Hereos and villains was just irritating as they already established no one is completely bad or completely evil pretty much from the get go.

Season 5 is probably the most boring and also the most disjointed. Camelot then the under world was just getting tiring and there were many abandoned arcs or arc setups with no payoff. Season 6 I just stopped caring- the wish realm was just stupid and really had no point. They also dropped the whole Land of untold stories arc far too soon. But the final episode of season 6 was a great ending that wrapped up everything really nicely.... only for a moment. With most of the actors- all execpt Lana Parillia , Robert Carlyle, and Colin O'donoghue deciding to leave- season 7 was a semi reboot with adult Henry played by a new actor. I decided to bail on season 7- and while I read the recaps- I was glad of my decision. Set mainly in the pointless wish realm anyways- and without a majority of the main cast- I just didn't care. I did watch the final ever episode- more like the final 5 minutes- and it was a solid ending.

I wanna praise Robert Carlyle for sticking with the show all the way. Rumple suffered from seasons 4-7, but he always gave it his all. I think he mutually fell out of favor with the writers after a while, as evidenced by Carlyle's lack of interview in the "final goodbye" dvd bonus feature on the season 7 dvds. I don't blame him.

In the end, although I fell hard for the characters, I would only rewatch 1-3 as that is the show at its peak, pulling off real twists and fun surprises for the characters.

The Vampire Diaries
(2009)

Overhyped, bad acting, toxic showrunner
I never got on board with the whole vampire thing, as I was 1 of only 2 people I knew growing up who did not enjoy the likes of Twilight. I only watched because Clarie Holt joined the show as Rebekah and because The Secret Circle got cancelled and I wanted something in the same vein (no pun intended).

I binged 1-3, watched 4-6 while it was airing, and did not care and fast forwarded seasons 7 and 8 on the dvr because I didn't give a crap about the show anymore. If I had to do it all over again, I just would have never watched the show.

Julie Plec is a toxic showrunner. She showed racism to Kat Graham and if not for Ian Somerhalder stepping in and willing to say "I'll quit if you kill her off", Bonnie would have been killed off.

While the plot for the first 3 seasons is solid and it works (despite having a flawed narrative), 4-6 is a step down, with 5 being the worst- but it's not THE worst as actually season 7 is the worst (despite fast forwarding it, I did read recaps, as that was faster and I didn't like what I was reading.

At some point, all the actors started to phone in their performance. Nina was probably done in season 5 emotionally, with Ian probably being done around the same time. Paul- I think Paul checked out even sooner as in season 4 he just seemed not to care anymore.

All the other characters seemed to get sidelined at some point , Michael Trivino even decided to leave the show, Steven R McQueen too- And I don't blame them.

I learned something valuable with this show: just because all the actors look cosmetically pretty and the guys have their shirts off a lot, does not mean the show is one worth watching.

The best part of the show was probably their choice of music to go along with certian scene- really made it more emotional, but that's not enough to sustain a show.

I watched and I'm glad, through it all, but don't see a rewatch anytime soon.

Winter Castle
(2019)

Ice melting
In this movie, I didn't believe for one second that the family was a family, as they really didn't gel well, and you could tell they were just going through the motions.

The way Meg and Jenny spoke to each other, I didn't believe they were sisters and it seemed as if they were two girls in a high school play playing sisters' the way they said each other's names.

On top of that- The ice hotel: while it looks cool, to stay and sleep there looked painful- sleep on a block of ice? NO THANKS!

Let's move onto Kevin: I didn't believe he was the single dad. Maybe it was to get viewers ready for his debut on When calls the heart as a single dad, but this wasn't the way to do it.

And I'm nit- picking here, but his hair was terribly styled here- it bugged me throughout.

Craig and Jenny's romance was superficial in the sense of "Oh He looks hot, she seems nice, let's just be together", only after we navigate through the love triangle with Lana- who was annoying. I'm honestly not sure why Craig and Jenny wanted to be together- they barely spent time together and part of the time was with Lana there keeping them from talking.

The part I did like was the actual wedding itself was sweet at the end, and Craig and Jenny dancing together was cute. But overall, it was a waste of time.

A Summer Romance
(2019)

Erin phones it in
The premise of this movie is not new: a struggling rancher gets the offer from a big corporation to buy her ranch, but the two leads are the appeal as they are two of Hallmark's most revered actors.

I'm not sure about others opinions, but for some reason, I got the impression Erin Krakow was phoning in her performance here. You compare her acting ability (not the characters she is playing) to some other projects and you just see her being flat in this movie. Even when Sam loosens up a little and starts teasing JR is was done with no warmth or humor, it was very stoic and boring.

Ryan was really good in the movie given the material he had to work with, as I thought the writers made his character flat as well.

In the end, maybe its just the script that needed help, but the blossoming romance was mediocre at best. Not many flirty scenes and I don't think I left the movie believing these two actually fell for each other.

Certianly worth a watch for the leads alone, but don't expect anything amazing.
