Scream, Pretty Peggy
(1973)

Creepy!
A creepy 1973 TV movie that seems to give nods to PSYCHO and William Castle's HOMICIDAL.Pretty Peggy,a college student and budding artist, goes to work in an old mansion as a housekeeper for a mysterious old lady(Bette Davis) and her oddball sculptor son(Ted Bessell). There is also a deranged daughter who lives in a room above the garage.Peggy starts become more unnerved when a man visits the house looking for his daughter who was the previous housekeeper. He sees a light shining above the garage and, well,is not seen again.Jimmy Sangster worked on the script, and he's infamous for many Hammer horror classics and a lot of American TV.Very atmospheric and spooky,I haven't seen this movie on TV since I was a kid.A darn shame!Good TV horror is not exactly plentiful,so it's very sad that movies like this remain unseen by new generations of horror fans.

Bad Ronald
(1974)

like an Anne Frank-Norman Bates mixture
Many fans of 70s tv horror revere this obscure and neat movie from 1974.And with good reason!Ronald is a shy young man with a wild imagination who lives with his twisted mother. After he accidentally kills a neighborhood girl and buries her,his ma surmises Ronald should hide in a plastered-over room until things settle down.Ma dies and Ronald stays put, drilling peepholes into every room.By this point he's quite deranged and when a new family with pretty daughters moves in,look out!Scott Jacoby is great as Ronald and the whole movie is very creepy.I've seen other movies that borrowed elements of BR(hider in the house, christina's house),but none reached the eerie level of this one.

The Devil's Daughter
(1973)

Creepy Shelley Winters!
From 1973 and obviously ROSEMARY'S BABY inspired, this has a great cast:Shelley Winters,Belinda Montgomery,Robert Foxworth,Joseph Cotton, and Jonathan"Barnabas"Frid as a mute butler. The 70s tv devil movies are all creepy.Very eerie in atmosphere with a young and pretty Diane attending her mother's funeral where she meets a very friendly Lillith who offers the girl a place when she lears Diane has nowhere to go.Unknown to Diane was that her mother used to be in a satanic cult with Lillith and her daughter was wanted by the cult.Diane discovers the truth, but,of course, too late. With a great spooky ending you'll never forget,TDDD is a neat little slice of tv horror.

Children of the Corn: Revelation
(2001)

A creepy good movie!
These COTC sequels aren't welcome by many horror fans, but, wait, this one has some things going for it.This has a coherent plot that approaches the story with abundant creepiness, foreboading sets, and well-crafted direction. When I heard the commentary on the HELLRAISER:HELLSEEKER dvd I found it interesting that that film used this film's sets.I need to play the 2 movies back-to-back.

Dead of Night
(1974)

eerie
Bob Clark is a successful hollywood director but will always be renowned by horror fans for the 3 creepy films he made back in the early 70s.DEATHDREAM came out in 1972 and is a very effective piece of E.C. comics style spookiness. In a lot of ways, the film seems similar to the chilling short story "The Monkey's Paw",but is also quite different. If you're a horror fan this movie's worth hunting down.

The Last House on Dead End Street
(1973)

disturbing and,heck,interesting!
I ordered this dvd online and got it yesterday. What a treat to finally be able to see this movie when for many years I only read about it in horror and exploitation magazines! How is it?A very deranged flick, like a cross between a Charles Manson home movie and an H.G. Lewis gore epic(BLOOD FEAST,etc)with some David Lynch thrown in.I like it a lot! This 2 dvd set is awesome, with extras galore giving a clearer understanding of this one-of-a-kind creepfest.

What Do You Say to a Naked Lady?
(1970)

From naughty to poignant
God bless Allen Funt.I grew up loving Mr Funt's gentle humor on CANDID CAMERA,a sharp contrast to the mean-spirited "humor" of today's reality shows. The movie is a documentary in the CC style where Funt explores how people feel about sexuality. From the opening images of a nude young lady confronting men in public places, where tittilation seems so naughty, the film instead shows us incredible imagery of folks confronting their prejudices and self-images.A crowning achievement.

A Bucket of Blood
(1995)

dead on!
This is a highly enjoyable remake!I haven't seen the 1959 original but plan to after seeing this!A very funny tale of an untalented artist who finds success after killing some folks and covering their bodies in plaster.Yes,it IS a comedy, though cut from the blackest cloth. The pretentious art world also gets a good skewering in the coolest John Waters fashion.Mink Stole is in this too.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
(1973)

What's that shadow?
When I was a kid I was so scared of the dark and this movie played on that fear.Gosh,it was scary!Well,I saw it again last night and appreciated the creepiness. It evokes memories of huddling on the couch and enjoying/being scared by all those tv horror nuggets of the early 70s.I'll never forget those wonderful shows. This movie should be on dvd!

Vampirella
(1996)

fast-paced fun!
When I was a child I religiously read FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND and, when my mom wasn't looking,VAMPIRELLA.I was curious about this movie when I heard of it,although I'd heard it sucked. When I saw it was to be on cable I eagerly watched it.I wasn't disappointed! It was fast-paced,sexy fun, just like the comic.A sequel?

Christina's House
(2000)

A tightly paced thriller
Naw,it doesn't set the world afire, but,HEY,it does the job! It's set up like it might be one of those SCREAM clones but quickly moves off into more psychologically creepy moments.Christina,a cute teenager, starts hearing weird noises coming from the attic and walls. She starts finding odd little things around the house.A partialy eaten oreo by her window,a sandwich sitting in the kitchen her family didn't make.Is Christina losing her mind? The ending is kinda cheezy, but there are a few good suspenseful moments I liked quite a bit.I like this movie.

Dead of Night
(1977)

another cool Matheson-Curtis 70s flick!
This is pretty cool!Richard Matheson and Dan Curtis(NIGHT STALKER,SCREAM OF THE WOLF)again collaborate. This was a failed pilot for a proposed tv series, but the movie can be enjoyed for what it is.There are 3 tales here, with "Bobby",the 3rd story, being the most chilling.Worth a look.

The Corpse
(1971)

atmospheric and spooky
Michael Gough is his creepy best as a sadistic man whose wife and daughter plot to kill him.But is he really dead? With more than a nod to DIOBOLIQUE this movie kinda creeps to an ambiguous(to me,anyway)end.I liked it.

The Dead Don't Die
(1975)

Eerie slice of 70s tv horror
Scripted by Robert"Psycho"Bloch, the DDD is a very spooky movie indeed!George Hamilton is a man determined to find the TRUE killer of his brother's wife.He is drawn into a shadowy world where the dead won't stay dead! With creepy Reggie"Salem's Lot"Nalder as a scary dead/undead guy.Is everything George sees real or a nightmare?Ray Milland and Joan Blondel co-star.Very Spooky indeed.

Night Gallery: Pilot
(1969)
Episode 0, Season 1

Brilliantly executed horror anthology!
NIGHT GALLERY was a tv movie that became the pilot for Rod Serling's classic series. There are 3 stories presented in the movie, and each one is high quality. The first one,"The Cemetary",haunted my dreams for years when I first saw it,but the other 2 are cool too. There's a definite "Tales from the Crypt quality to the stories and are quite eerie.Plus, the opening credits scene and theme are spine tingling!

Surviving Gilligan's Island: The Incredibly True Story of the Longest Three Hour Tour in History
(2001)

Campy and fun like the classic tv series!
This is delightful!Dawn Wells,Bob Denver, and Russel Johnson present a light-hearted look back at the making of this timeless tv show and it's enduring spots in hearts of folks all over the world.Actors recreate the early battles to get te green-light from the network to make this show.Unbelievable that this well-loved show had such a hard time getting on tv!

In Search of...
(1977)

great tv!
When I first saw this as a boy I was thrilled!Leonard Nimoy was the perfect host for these mysterious subjects. It definitely fired up my imagination. There were the obvious subjects(bigfoot, loch ness, ghosts) but there were also takes on Pompei and stuff.I still enjoy it now via the history channel.

The X Files
(1993)

the next generation?
With DD now only agreeing to brief appearances I think it's time to maybe alter the title a bit to show the show is now going in a little different dirrection.Mulder added a personality to the show, and such a strong dynamic was established with Skully that can't be duplicated.Doggett and Reyes are fine, plus it's reported Lucy Lawless and Cary Elwes will join the 9th season, and a new feeling is apparent.

Dark Night of the Scarecrow
(1981)

well-done,creepy and atmospheric
Since it came out in 1981 I think I've seen it once a year since then on tv.Why not?You don't see such a good horror film like this every day.An effective sort of EC comics-style revenge story.Plus we get all the great stuff about horror movies-suspenseful,creepy ambience. This is just cool.

Look What's Happened to Rosemary's Baby
(1976)

I love these 70s satan tv shows!
I saw this long ago and wanna see it again!I need to find a video.Anyway, this movie was a hoot!Ruth Gordon worshipping the devil again and plotting domination or something.Another terrible Patty Duke TV movie that works for me.

Night of Dark Shadows
(1971)

A Gothic classic!
Many DARK SHADOWS fans who saw this dislike it because of the eleventh hour editing that MGM insisted on before the release date-drastic cutting. As it remains,a cool 70s gothic horror story is still there to enjoy. There is so much haunting atmosphere and brilliant camera work, along with top-notch acting,to sustain interest.I felt confused at points, due to the savage cutting, but still felt totally absorbed. This movie is like bizzaro DS!Character's names sound familiar, but that's it.This is a fresh story utilizing the DS TV series universe.

The Reincarnation of Peter Proud
(1975)

A cool,creepy slice of the 70s.....
This movie is quite cool and creepy. It's definitely a 70s movie with it's story of reincarnation and Jerry Goldsmith's moog score.Peter Proud has recurring nightmares about a woman killing him and goes out to find out if his dreams may be something. An effective supernatural film.Look for the novel in used bookstores and keep an eye out for it on cable stations.
