I've never seen a Bollywood film before but I caught the first ten minutes of this, laughed myself silly and hit the R button on Sky+. I'm glad I did!! I hope I don't insult anybody (because basically, the BF and I loved it!) but we couldn't take it half as seriously as the actors did - especially the obsessed one (who, I understand, is a huge Bollywood star because we've seen him on the cover of lots of dvds since and i even saw a doll of him today in Hamleys!! The BF keeps on about this bloke - I am beginning to think HE'S obsessed! He keeps saying that it's strange for the traditionally good looking one to be the anti-hero of a film! But then we do like films that aren't your stock predictable Hollywood fare).

It was completely over the top but really good fun. If all Bollywood films are like this then we're watching more. I have had that bloomin' song in my head all week and I can't speak a word of Hindi! PS any recommendations would be appreciated!

Loose Women is insipid cheap ITV fare. A bunch of haggard Z-list celebs in the over-40 bracket who cannot even get work on soaps or reality shows sit around and moan about how they're not beautiful any more and how crap their lives are. They want to be the forum for women in this country, but they seem to spend more time bitching about other women than anything else.

They had some jackass on the show today who's gone to the trouble of writing a book on how much he hates fat people. A moron who admits he lived in LA for a while explains his obsession with other people's weight and in oppressing them with his hate. He's no brain of his own and wants to be loved and accepted by the people he wishes he were. Anything that threatens that you fear and so hate. You hate fat because you fear it, it's that simple.

They're an easy target. No researched debate on this issue, on the claims that obese people look terrible, eat nothing but fast food and cost him, the taxpayer, money by using up all the money from the NHS, NO!!! Nothing about how smokers, drug abusers and people who come here purely to abuse the NHS system and go home to the middle east or beyond (I've known people who've admitted to doing this).

I'm one of these "fat" people and the last time I went to hospital was 8 years ago for a fracture. Nothing to do with fat! I've seen my GP twice this year - to get allergy tablets and for moles. Neither fat-induced. I have no health issues because I don't smoke or do drugs. I eat a lot and some of the wrong things but eat a varied diet. I have fast food maybe once a week, but my job means that I get what I'm given or have nothing. Even so, what business is it of ANYONE else's?

What infuriated me though, is not this idiot, but the support it received from this panel of self-obsessed and self-righteous bitches. Apart from the damage this does to accept of fat people even less, they've thrown their own fear and hate venom in!

By media terms these women are over the hill, ugly and useless. They're comfortable at bitching about their industry colleagues who are successful, working and/or looked up to. They do it all the time. They're not getting any younger, they're in an industry where women are judged, every inch. Aware of their disappearing youths, that their best is behind them, they know they're lucky to have this job where the unemployed/unemployable just might value their opinions.

Not wanting to risk losing that job or getting another, they'd rather not have a "different" opinion - so basically they just pretend to be radical and speak for all women. So, sheep-like, they too are obsessed with their looks (not that obsessed, judging by their faces, wrinkles and clothes). Being relatively slim is all they've got. No wonder they're venomous toward fat people too, why not?

What if I went on their spouting about homosexuality is immoral, depraved and insane? Or that anorexics are self-obsessed victims who just need to eat something? What if I said society is fallen because black people are barbarians who never graduated from the jungle (btw I've never seen a black presenter on there).

It wouldn't happen, of course, because these opinions are out-dated and stupid.

They harped on about how it's the individual's responsibility and that people should make an effort to lose weight. I agree. I say we all go out for a walk or to the gym when this piffle is on.

The hypocrites they are, they talked about giving up smoking and how they hate being told not to...

This is a person whose eventual cancer will cost the NHS (probably has already), and not just her but passive smokers around her. She has children who see her smoke, teaching them that it's okay - even though she tells them it's terrible. They'll suck off the NHS too.

Hypocrite, hate-mongerer, NHS-abuser and a bad parent too.

Even if my weight did mean I take money from the NHS - I PAID INTO IT YOU IDIOT!!

This programme is a daily bitch to find someone they can look down upon and be disgusted by, to make themselves feel better. They think they are better than their audience and represent them. They don't.

Perhaps then I'm too fat to watch the programme and I would encourage anyone else who doesn't fit into a size 12 not to watch. God forbid it's catching...

Exactly the same sort of "Miss Fine!!" situations.

I haven't seen the whole thing, but I'm assuming that he'll tell her he loves her, and then will take it back. She'll re-mould him from being a stere0typical stuffed shirt and everyone will love her. The kids will fall in love with her and she'll be their rock. Eventually the dictator will stop living in denial and finally marry her, go through a few formal embarrassing situations and in the end they'll have boy and girl twins.

I just miss the desperate dictator's assistant, her banter with the cheeky butler and the mother who drops in every five minutes to eat something.

I don't know if this has any spoilers, but to be on the safe side...! I agree with most, this film severely lacks the potential you expect from Jodie Foster. The first act (prior to them going in) is basically just moping about. It kept coming back to me how a single mother can afford this cavernous mansion in Manhattan. I cracked up when the daughter (it took me a while to realise it was a girl) said, "What's going on?" or whatever and Mum replies, "People in the house" or something. Just in case she didn't spot the armed men, one of whom has a balaclava on, right in front of them. Well, duh! It's such a slow film - sure the photography is okay but the music is too dramatic. The music reminds me of "Silence of the Lambs" but without the tension.

The characters are inconsistent (well, the one with the braided hair who swears a lot).

The film is on in the background now and I lost interest just before she ran and got the cellphone.

The other half is enjoying it but honestly, after reading some of the reviews on here, I'm not going to waste my time!!

Who isn't good in this film?

Brenda de Banzie (sp) was perfectly cast in this film and really worthy of mention! I love it when a woman knows what she wants and goes and sorts it out herself! Inspirational, especially for the 50s, and the victorian era it's set in!

John Mills, is always good, so that's no surprise, and you can't imagine anyone but Charles Laughton as Hobson.

The lack of an Oscar nomination, let alone award, just goes to show what a political and flavour-of-the-month farce it is. Is there really acting talent like this in 'Lord of the Rings'...?

Well, just to say that the DVD is magnificent and worth twice the price, so if you are wondering whether or not to buy it.....just buy it.

I can't add any more to the previous comment on the greatness of this film; I have seen it many times and still see it from a different angle and spot new details each time.

And Kevin Spacey?

I put this on whenever I feel low and it really picks me up! Rosalind Russell puts in a very well-rounded performance has energy enough for everybody and has a wonderfully strong and emotionally-charged vocal style that you cannot help but take notice of. Miscast???? I can't think of any way of improving that performance.

Natalie Wood grows from plain child to beautiful woman before you're eyes ("Look at me, Mama - I'm beautiful!")

The strippers are fantastic - funny and unforgettable! Especially the brassy one with the trumpet!

Karl Malden is his usual wonderful self.

Stick all that together with great, memorable songs and a timeless script and this film will never, ever get boring.

A classic!

But why not available on DVD and CD?! Scandalous!!!

I've heard it said that this was Elvis' favourite of his own films. And no wonder. It's about the only film he ever did that allowed him to be an actor. And let's remember, Elvis had no formal acting training, and sure, the film is, as usual, peppered with great Elvis numbers and no-one doubts his talent there.

If only the Colonel had chosen to exploit the acting side a little more, perhaps we would have a lot more memorable stuff like this to remember than some of the later films, such as.....er.....er....well, there you go, I don't remember any. Perhaps Elvis would have been a lot more proud too.

Anyway, alongside Elvis is a wonderful Carolyn "Morticia Adams" Jones and a fairly early Walter Matthau, showing us that he didn't just make us laugh in his movies, but he was able to impress us with dramatic roles also.
