Student Bodies
(1981)

The original teen horror spoof
This never fails to crack me up and howl with laughter. The crazed serial killer "The Breather" with his demented voice and comical employment of unconventional implements of killing is wildly funny. Its not supposed to be "Citizen Kane" hell its not supposed to be "Friday the 13th" for that matter but what it is works on many levels. There are jokes that are barely jokes but that land because of what they are mocking. They aren't just mocking the movies themselves they are mocking the film makers making those bad cliched slasher films. The guy blow drying his hair for twenty minutes and its never dry is a shot at directors and continuity. The always absent kid who is being babysat the bevy of possible suspects that are each ludicrous and designed to be so. The obvious teen sex lessons attempted to be a harbinger that this can only lead to a nightmare and bad things happen when teen sex is a foot is glaring and hit on with such a bafoonish tone that its parody of "legitimate" slasher films makes them and their motives seem funny as well. This movie pokes fun at not just slasher movies but the industry surrounding it in its entirety. From directing, to writing, to character development, to even the MPAA rating, its bad on purpose fooling with whats just bad.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Choice
(2003)
Episode 7, Season 5

What was this
I have no idea what this was. It seems like activism television and poorly written activism television at that. Why were the police sooooo involved in a civil issue that had no actual criminality to it. Special Victims Unit has no other cases to handle they are getting involved in civil matters that do not in anyway need police involvement. Also do juries in New York deliberate court orders?! Is that a thing?! If you violate an order you go in front of the ordering judge who sanctions you and usually with a fine of some kind. This was poorly written and should never have made it to production other than it being straight up political rhetoric. So dumb!

Reacher
(2022)

Season one is okay
Season one is okay but enough of the corrupt cop angle with everything. I know Hollywood only wants to demonize the police with everything but its a played out trope that is a symptom of bad writers. Well guess what season two is allllll corrupt cops. Its also very watered down compared to season one. Boring plot line, horrible acting bad character development and just subpar storytelling. There is no way a running gunfight takes place in NYC with no one around. Its just bad writing. The tactics used are just so unrealistic and so bad that they border on absurd and even satirical. As if the writers are making fun of the audience for watching this crap. Ritchson is good, at least he looks the part, even if his performances are very wooden. Nobody on his team has any real endearing elements that make you give a crap if they survive or not. Watch season one and skip two. Wait for three to see if its him solo again. If so give it a shot if its his "team" I know I am gonna write it off.

Criminal Minds: A Thin Line
(2012)
Episode 15, Season 7

Pathetic
This is the most far fetched political rhetoric I've ever seen or heard in my life. So a guy is murdering alleged gang members then killing families and posing the dead alleged gang members as the perpetrators. This is all being done so a, what was clearly depicted as a conservative, candidate could win a mayoral election. The candidate is depicted as a conservative from his mentioning how his opponent wants to raise taxes. The episode is ludicrous and bizarre. Not because the crimes are so outrageous but because they are so outrageously stupid. Also it's bizarre because anyone that would consider this as a viable script is not only desperate for content but twisted in their own cognitive capacity. The writers may actually need extensive psychological counseling as they are suffering from serious issues.

Criminal Minds
(2005)

Went down fast
The first three seasons were good then suddenly it tanked. The storylines became ludicrous absolutely ludicrous not even interesting just juvenile and bad. It seems like a new generation of writers came in and scrapped the entire idea of the BAU and paint the FBI as the ultimate and inly law enforcement agency that swoops in to save the inept locals. Most of the cases in later seasons are nit even FBI cases. There are serious issues also with the idea that the BAU in general goes out and does the runnin and gunnin that is depicted in the show. They write up a profile and submit it when there is a serial or serious murder. They rarely even show up to crime scenes. So the premise of the show is ludicrous. I gave it a shot and nope. I gave it three stars for the first three seasons. It becomes political and just really dumb after that.

Post Mortem
(2020)

Hungarian Horror blah
When you watch it it seems like the director just shot some scenes added the CGI later through over some moody music and voila a horror film. All the horror cliches are present. Shadows, moans, groans, phantoms, walking corpses, the biddy and of course its centered around ta-da a pandemic. Talk about beating a dead horse. For some reason people were on fire and running around aimlessly. A house fills with water and the occupant doesn't even seem to try and get out. There was just no direction to it other than lets make it moody and foreign and people will eat it up. There are so many good films out there to watch and enjoy. Watch this if you wanna see what a bad one is like.

Die by the Sword
(2020)

Wait...WHAT?!
What is this?! Was this filmed over a weekend in someones backyard with an iphone?! Its a film about Britain without a single English accent. Pressure treated lumber. And fight choreography that looks like it was done by an elementary school. One of the "actors" actually has a thick southern accent. Why would this be broadcast on THIS TV?! Kind of embarrassing considering it is one of the worst films I have ever seen. It isn't even fun-bad its just bad-bad and that makes for a cringe worthy viewing experience along the lines of a car wreck. Please disregard this as any effort of film making and entertainment. It is just really horrible.

The X Files: Alone
(2001)
Episode 19, Season 8

Leyla Harrison is awesome
This episode is great because it has everything, monster of the week, Mulder, Scully, Doggett, even Skinner. But the highlight the absolute clincher is Special Agent Leyla Harrison. She is an injection of freshness the show needed. Her enthusiasm for the X files mirrors that of the fans watching and allows the viewer to identify more with the characters. It gives us representation and a level of participation in the episode through a character that, though well rounded and developed, bears an innocence that audiences can relate to ultimately. Not to mention she adds a bit more femininity to the show and is beautiful woman. Her own victimization but resilience at the pivotal moment when she is the revealer shows she isn't there to be a fan but a participant.

You're Next
(2011)

Gore is not my thing... But
This movie goes a lot further with its story. Though somewhat predictable and a bit hokey it is the only "slasher" film I really like. The main reason for my appreciation of the film is the atypical role of the female lead. Her skills acquired growing up in a survivalist camp as a child come in very handy when the dinner party she is attending is attacked by masked killers. The fun ensues from there as she moves through the large Tudor style house racking up her own kills. Enter this movie with a strong stomach and a sense of fun. What she does she does to survive but there is a slight bit of relishing in her work.

Criminal Minds: 25 to Life
(2010)
Episode 11, Season 6

One of the worst episodes I've seen.
1. A pre-parole psychological evaluation would not be performed by an actual law enforcement agent. Let alone by someone who is not at least a psychologist. Bit of a conflict.

2. The Dr. Still broke into a house and killed someone with an obviously illegally obtained firearm on his person. All in violation of his parole. The person he killed had every right to defend himself.

3. The feds had no jurisdiction to take the prisoner out of DC Metros custody in any way.

4. There is no basis for which they would investigate the former murder.

5. The identification of the female co-conspirator was immediately tainted when they displayed one image.

6. The identification of the candidate as a potential murderer was just ridiculous. Apparently all crime can be solved with her computer.

7. The FBI strolling into the candidate's house and arresting him based on a couple scratches on his hand is essentially official oppression. Just because someone may be a psychopath doesn't make them a criminal or a murderer.

One of the worst written episodes of this show I have seen and there are some pretty bad ones. I actually believe more are bad than not.

From: Belly of the Beast
(2023)
Episode 7, Season 2

Talk talk talk
All they do is talk about nothing. NOTHING. Every effort they make is fruitless and every conversation is pointless. No one makes good decisions. The idea of autopsy-ing that thing inside was just stupid. Cut the head and hands off and do it outside. The ones that work together make the worst decisions and every good idea is never followed through. The suspense is simply suffering through pointless episodes in order to get any ounce of action rung out of five minutes of a 45 minute show. One actor carries everything and everyone else simply is horrible. Whats the plan for this show? Are better writers in the wings? Is that strike over yet because someone needs to rescue this crumb of a show.

Death in the Dorms
(2023)

Not affiliated with colleges
Haven't seen one yet where they were murdered in a dorm. The only connections are the victim is a student but not living on campus and they interview someone from the school paper. Don't bother watching this if you are waiting to see an expose of on campus crime. The second episode wasn't even near campus. They interview a lot of people who don't have knowledge of the case other than second or third hand "journalists" or anyone they can find in campus that heard if the case. They choose poor narrators who have little to no involvement. This happens in latter episodes more so than the first. I would say its okay to watch for some decent production value and to see investigations but it isn't an exposé of college crime.

Castle: Knockout
(2011)
Episode 24, Season 3

Ridiculous
This episode is so bad it was difficult to finish. The idea that she would be assigned to the same precinct as her one time target is just dumb. The funeral scene was stupendously bad for several reasons. There is no way this man would be given a burial with honors by the NYPD. The investigation is going to reveal his involvement in corruption and thats what lead to his death. Also if there was a funeral with full honors there would be a sea of police officers there. No shooter could ever get close enough. Also, Becket would never be allowed to speak at the service. It would be the Commissioner, Chief of Detectives and the Chaplain. The detectives wouldn't be pall bearers it would be the honor guard and there would be a full military contingent there as well because he was in photos wearing military garb. Bad writing, bad acting and very very bad technical advising if at all.

American Dad!: Smooshed: A Love Story
(2022)
Episode 12, Season 17

One of my favorite
This is one of my absolute favorite episodes. Any episode that is Steve-centric is my favorite but this one introduced me to one my new favorite characters, the charming and endearing semi-psychopath, Anne-Marie. She is, and trust me when I say this, the locked down epitome of every single girl I know from that area. All the way down to the required Vince Papale shirt and overly done finger nails. The part where she tells Snot "you better sort yourself out and quit yellin at me" is a nearly perfect verbatim warning leveled by any more than capable Philly girl. I am absolutely praying that Anne-Marie returns and hunts down "Snotter" but in the endearing way in which only Anne-Marie can stalk and harass. Just keep her away from the phone. Please please please more of Anne-Marie!!!

Blood Diamond
(2006)

Poignant and real
One of my favorite films. All the performances all of the scenery the compelling story the backdrop of war and the greed make for a movie that grips you. Then you realize this is the reality of some people. This is indeed how life unfolds for some who may have locked within their minds innovations that will never come to fruition due to the savagery of man and their inability to empathize. Precious natural resources ripped from the lands and the benefits of them stolen from the indigenous people occupying the very plundered soil. Simple dreams shattered by stamped metal receivers in milliseconds all for a shiny rock thats only attribute is its natural formation. It is a film that details horrible circumstances, showcases the lengths man will go in order to take from others and then finally of redemption and true altruism.

Navalny
(2022)

A true life international thriller, sadly
I am no fan of CNN and believe they have a confusing and hypocritical narrative. That is a statement that I have made many times in the past. I see them looking for trouble here that is mostly fabricated. I will say that this documentary moved me in a way as to make me wish things would just get better for all of us. It broadened my understanding of the struggles of the Russian people against Putin the oligarchs and all other the actual despotic regimes. It displays the grotesque world of international politics and its most seedy underbelly. Detailing the lengths some will go to in order to silence a voice that opposes their own. They showed Navalny, worts and all, and he is still presented in a more favorable light than those currently he struggles against. The saddest part is this is all so real yet so fantastical it begs to be taken seriously but is hard to fathom. We, as powerless spectators, watch this man, whom we just developed a relationship with as a fly on a wall, be carted off to prison only for speaking out. He even apologizes to his fellow airplane passengers for being diverted to another airport due to his presence on the plane. After watching this documentary I attempted to watch "Three Days of the Condor" a classic spy thriller and felt a bit melancholic as the fictional tale was less complicated and paled to the real version. Watch this documentary just to see how the worlds governments allows tyrants to rule in spite of all the grandstanding and posturing.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
(2015)

Cavill crushes it with this performance
This is one of my favorite films. Guy Ritchie hits this one outta the park with style and slickness. The best part of this film, for me, is Cavill. Everything in his performance screams the next Bond. He plays this role with precision and a touch of attitude but still very endearing. He mimics the original Napoleon Solo's accent which really connects the film with the source material. He moves like a cat and his sly grin gives him an air of "I know something you don't know" danger. The international backdrop and his costars in addition to the arms race simplicity of the story make for a fun and cool film. The scene with the off-road vehicle and the pond is an example of Solo's daring and determination. It proves that if he wants to get something done he will through sheer will and fortitude.

Its performance at the box office is more indicative of audiences than of the quality of the movie. Its intention seems to initiate a new generation into the fold of spy thrillers in the Cold War era with contemporary stars. However, it instead speaks more in a tone of nostalgia to a generation more prone to stream than hit the theaters.

The X Files: Familiar
(2018)
Episode 8, Season 11

Ludicrous and derivative
Everything about this is derivative and 100% ludicrous. There is NO BAIL ON MURDER. Especially a murder witnessed by the entire town! This episode is so derivative it rips off their own episode. The idea of a monster manifesting in the form of the imagination of the victim was already done. The clown and the child in the slicker is "IT". Yet somehow they still made the police the worst of all. Conjurers of evil, murderers, adulterers, conspirators and of course submissive to their baser urges and summations of information. The episode steals from "IT" so much I think Stephen King has a copyright suit if he wanted. I would also imagine the judge who released the officer on a minimal bail for murder would be in deep trouble considering the officer went to kill someone else. Ludicrous.

The X Files: Chinga
(1998)
Episode 10, Season 5

Take the crown from his head
This episode is hard to watch, not so much because of the content, or the fact that it has a very cliche story, but the constant "I want to play" is so annoying that it becomes like nails on a chalkboard. You can even anticipate when the doll is about to say it because the story is so derivative it makes it laughable and not in a good, Mulder quips, sort of way. It isn't scary, it isn't fun it isn't remotely enjoyable. I have watched every episode and this is one of my least favorites. It almost appears as if there was a meeting with King and he, in a moment of concession, reached into the junk drawer and produced something he wouldn't send to his publisher for fear that he would have his contract terminated. He handed it over and giggled like a kid getting away with something. That's what I think of when I see the higher rating of this episode. We have been duped to think its watchable only by the name attached when it is subpar on every level.

Steven Seagal: Lawman
(2009)

Come on!
As someone who has worked as a corrections officer, deputy sheriff and police officer/detective and now a professor I take serious offense to this tragic display. This show and its "star" make a mockery of the profession that absorbs the slings and arrows all to often. The visuals are that "Chief Reserve Deputy" Steven Seagal and his team tool around Jefferson Parish at high speeds stamping out crime. They cruise the streets in unmarked SUVs and molle gear as Seagal directs their actions like a surly pseudo-psychic grizzled veteran commander. Quick cuts, non-sequiturs and fuzzy camera work makes the show equal more to a Reno 911 than COPS. Ridiculous hard to follow scenarios make the show comical and just ludicrous with its lame commentary and intense music as background. You have no idea why they are chasing who they're chasing and it just seems like civil rights violation after civil rights violation. This show just seems like a game of chase someone anyone no matter what. I would swear most of this is scripted, badly.

SAS Rogue Heroes
(2022)

Phenomenal and tracks with independent research
I appreciate a show that keeps as true to actual events as possible. Certain concessions must be made for drama and to defeat the banality of the everyday. You must pack attention grabbing action into allotted time slots with limited episodes so some dramatic license is necessary. It is refreshing however to read articles which coalesce with what is shown on the screen. And what is shown on the screen are the exploits of extraordinary and very dangerous men. Unleashed ravenous hounds with a severe and gruesome purpose steeped in grudge and willing to cause nightmares in the slumber of the enemy. The characters are portrayed individually as different as the men themselves. Jack O'Connell is fantastic as Paddy May e and Alfie Allen should be at least nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of Jock Lewes. Don't miss this show!!!

Llamageddon
(2015)

Glorious
One of the greatest things I have ever watched. I never saw such a bad movie this good in my life. No one took this film seriously and it shows but it is a better movie for it. We watched this during our bad Saturday night film. Its junk food and junk films. The gags in the movie like the ever changing shirt were so juvenile and ridiculous that they work so well. You have to love the a movie clearly made over the weekend with a budget of everyones pooled minimum wage pay checks and props not meant to portray whatever they are portraying. Glorious glorious badness all bundled up in one crazy movie.

Chapelwaite
(2021)

A great spooky and bloody horror show
I really enjoyed this show. Some things frustrated me but that happens and is usually based on bad decisions by characters. The show was well crafted and superbly acted. Adrien Brody was really great and you root for him to not fall to the family curse. I mean seriously his been through enough in his life. The kids are really good and you want to see more as the show unfolds. I would love to see a second season to continue the saga which really has no expiration that I can see. The future can go in many different directions and can all tie back so I hope this isn't a one off. It does start off slow but when it picks up it is full steam ahead and just hold on.

The Suicide Squad
(2021)

America is the bad guy
These Suicide Squad movies are pretty bad. CGI is over the top of course. This film venerates a drug addict who ultimately chooses drugs over his daughter. The purpose being only to portray drug addicts as misunderstood tortured geniuses with ultimately altruistic intentions. The overly violent and destructive prolonged action sequence is definitely influenced by the CGI king himself that being Zack Snyder. Why this film is rated so high can only be explained by dishonest calculations. Margot Robbie, who I think should be cast in actual acting roles, is so annoying with that god awful Long Island via Brooklyn accent as to cause my ears to bleed. Idris Elba is good but only in so far as he plays a character with really no depth. This ain't Stringer Bell or even Roque from The Losers which was more entertaining. John Cena is terrible and the build up to him being the antihero/hero guy is pathetic and without suspense or shock. All around its an anti-America movie disguised as an ensemble comedy/action film with its wokeism more latent than blatant. NASA astronauts are evil Naziesque scientists. The ultimate takeaway is that the greatest democracy the world has ever known is evil but that the small island nation is fighting for... wait for it... democracy. You're getting your lines and messages crossed Hollywood go back to the drawing board.

Stalker
(1979)

It IS boring and pointless
If this film is an allegory in any way it is only in the fact that lifes pointlessness is displayed in the pointlessness of this film. Dirty and grimy just to be dirty and grimy. The only actual symbolism that I saw were that a couple of the weapons seen were American made, a Thompson submachine gun and a 1911 pistol. Both would be out of place if where they are is a Soviet territory. It was just dialogue after dialogue and filthy scene after filthy scene that frustratingly and literally ends up back where it started. The daughter having telekinesis moving the glasses across the table at the end was out of place and opened up more questions. Anyone who tells you that they get this movie is trying to sell you on their intelligence. If they are that means they are doubtful of their intellect in the first place and should be dismissed. Pick any Kurosawa film and it will blow this out of the water. Those that also equate it somehow to Chernobyl are really stretching. Its a dismal trudging murky filthy film with zero point. NOTHING HAPPENS!

I don't even know how it ended up on my DVR. I can only imagine I had scheduled to record something that was replaced by this mess.
