The Power
(2023)

Impressive
I did not know anything about the show prior to watching and was instantly impressed. This show was able to bring so many worldwide social issues to mainstream awareness. The cross cultural storylines of women's oppression and the complex relationships they have in their lives was tied together seamlessly. The performace of the cast was a high quality, Toni Collette is always great and her interactions with Auli'i Cravalho who plays her daughter came across as genuine. It was good to see John Leguizamo playing a more serious, non villainous role.

Overall, I recommend this show. I know it isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea but I am glad I gave it a go and more importantly I'm glad it was made and released mainstream.

Enjoyable!
I found this movie on Shudder and am glad I gave it a go. Being a horror fan, I found the plot summary to be intriguing though it didn't do the movie justice. Rather than using their horror movie knowledge there girls proved to be resourceful and relied on their cultural and environmental knowledge. Though not all the acting was great, it was well done by the younger cast and juxtaposed reality with sci fi. The mindless scrolling on the gram vs alien invasion; navigating friendship and crushes while saving their town. Teamed with the great sound of Inuk throat singing, I found this movie to be quite the little gem. 👏

More enjoyable than expected, 5.5 !
I actually found this film quite enjoyable and could see the social adaptation intended. It was well acted, though the parents were annoying; but let's face it, parent are annoying especially when they are being irrational and authoritarian without empathy. There has been some commentary in other posts about script and dialogue, where fascism is mentioned when phones are taken away but that comment in the movie came from a teen. If reviewers remember what it was like being a teen and parents were being restrictive, fascism is exactly what it felt like. Overall the movie tried to show both sides of the teen- parent dynamic, worrying and not understanding what youth "are into" and the imagined threat because of that lack of relating /understanding. The "creature" did look ridiculous, but that seemed to be intentional and a reflection of what was being conveyed in the movie. It really didn't deserve the low scores.

The Curse of Bridge Hollow
(2022)

So much fun!
This movie was a great find!! The cast had chemistry as a family and really pulled the story together. Though it was not blockbuster special effects, the scenes were enjoyable to watch and there were a few laugh out loud moments. Lauren Lupkas was amazing in her supporting role as mayor.

This movie has the potential to be a cult classic and would be a good movie to watch year after year on Halloween. And it must be said, Bridge Hollow would be a great town to live in.

Overall the movie was a fun watch, lots of Halloween festive spirit and not "scary". Give the movie a go, whether you have kids or don't.

Enjoyable watch
This was unexpectedly good. I watched this series in English and the storyline was so captivating that I didn't really notice the dubbing. The main characters complimented each other well and the show was well produced. I finished the series in one evening, curious to see what would happen next in each episode. So glad I gave it a go as it was thoroughly an enjoybale show to watch.

The Unusual Suspects
(2021)

Entertaining
This was a great miniseries full of fun, diversity and strong female characters. I am a fan of heist movies and this is up there with the Ocean's film series especially Ocean's 8. The show provided a good snapshot of a person's individual journey, struggles, self worth and aspirations for their future; both rich and poor. Thoroughly entertaining, well acted and enjoyable. Can be streamed free on SBS on demand.
