A Man Called Otto
(2022)

Unforgettable
I didn't know what to expect coming to it, is it a comedy? Drama? Action? All I know Tom Hanks was starring in it. That's it.

I was captivated the from the beginning to it, simply put, a great story and amazing performance. This movie once again proof that you don't need all the fancy CGI, action or over the top storyline to make a good film.

I won't spoil the film for anyone but it is about a grumpy man who gets frustrated with his neighbors and wanted to end his life thinking that is nothing left worth living for.

This is a beautiful and moving film had me reflecting on my own life.

I will definitely check out the original film and book now.

Tin lung baat bou
(2023)

Entertaining action film that's not very good.
I'll make this short and sweet...

The script is predictable and unoriginal...

The direction is poor...

The editing extremely disjointed...

CGI is very good...

Overall, this is a visually stunning action ride but that is not enough to keep me entertain for 2 hours. The plot and editing is all over the place making it very frustrating to follow and I find myself waiting for just the action scenes without caring for any of the characters or story.

As much as I enjoy Donnie Yen's work I'm not sure that directing this film himself is the right choice for this project, but that's just my opinion.

The Polar Odyssey
(2023)

An enjoyable holiday film
This is Zhang Yuan's best film so far. Granted he is known mostly as a singer, this film shows a different side of him and proof that he can carry his own in acting. Liu Yase is wonderful in this film. Given that she won the Hong Kong Film Award for best actress, I expected nothing less.

This film is a delightful adventure that gives me a sensation of nostalgia from the times when films were full of good old-fashioned action without the use of CGI. I also really like the ending and the way the director chose to open and close the film in the same location. I don't want to spoil the ending for you but after the film is done you will understand why.

This is not the perfect film but if there is a sequel, I would definitely go and watch it.

Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood
