For Colored Girls
(2010)

Through the Eyes of Tyler Perry
Do not except this to be the film version of the liberating work by Ntozake Shange. This is Tyler Perry's interpretation of that womanist text, which barely coheres to Shange's work. It is worth watching if only to inspire viewers to return and learn the original text by Shange.

Gravity
(2013)

Gorgeous Cinematography-but...
This film has gorgeous cinematography, and the plot is riveting as a Sci-Fi thriller. Yet, I was distracted by all the scientific inaccuracies, as well as how poorly prepared Ryan Stone was to be an astronaut. Why is it that the one woman in this film is panicky while the main man was cool as a cucumber? I dislike films that portray women as the squeamish characters.

Station 19
(2018)

Too much!!
Too much gossip and interpersonal drama, not enough action! Yawn....

The Unit: Flesh & Blood
(2009)
Episode 17, Season 4

Where's FlexGlue when you need it?
Amazing surgical miracle performed by Jonas out of nowhere, saving the life of the man they were sent to rescue-only to purposefully have him be killed at the end of their mission. The Unit's helicopter takes fire and despite all their fancy technology, they have to boil up some glue from twigs and baking soda! That's flimsy. Surely they would have some emergency flex super glue and tape!

Allure
(2017)

A Psycho/Horror Thriller, Not a Lesbian Romance
This film reveals the psycho-sexual/abusive dynamics in kidnapping a naive and vulnerable teenager by someone who is a liar, manipulator, and psychotic who also happens to be a lesbian. The kidnapper seduces the young victim into a pseudo-sexual relationship, a relationship the victim does not welcome or understand. That this movie is classified in the genre of a LGBTQI film is totally unconscionable. It's a horror film.

Vita & Virginia
(2018)

Poor Cinematic Value
The film seemed draped in a mist or fog, subduing colors, as well as the ardor between Vita and Virginia. I found the constant bickering between the husbands and wives a certain distraction from the narrative. The script needed tightening, although the read (actual) letters exchanged between Vita and Virginia were of fine literary value.

America's Book of Secrets
(2012)

True or Fiction
While quite interesting, at times I felt it hard to distinguish between 'truth' and hyped 'fiction'. In the last episode, the film leads one to believe Armageddon is arriving tomorrow. The whole series is worth watching with a grain of salt.

Tell Me Who I Am
(2019)

Trigger Alert
On the surface, this film has a simple plot. Beneath this plot lies a horrific narrative of childhood sexual abuse. Cinematographically beautiful and metaphoric, this film avoids screenshots of talking heads. Yet, be prepared to fast-forward through the explicit dialogue about the sexual abuse near the end. IMHO, Marcus tried to give Alex a gift; Alex interpretation of this gift was that Marcus' narrative had been a lie. Who's to say?

Homeland
(2011)

Predictable and Islamophobic
Terrorists are extremist and ignorant "Muslims," until the white-knight Euro-American protagonists become just as extreme and ignorant against their own people. A study of bad beards (Patinkin), brilliant paranoias-a series brainwashing viewers into believing they have a little control over their world.
