Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
(2023)

After Thoughts
Wow! I was shocked with how close this was to being on par with the first Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. I was wanting to see if they would do anything interesting with the animation, and oh boy did they. I felt like the animators read my mind and pretty much said "Hold My Beer" cause it might actually be more beautiful than the first! Especially that water color look of Gwen's world and how it reacts to her emotions and situations. I was also pleasantly surprised by the amount of love put into Spider-Man I'm general. They really went all out in trying to pay as much respect to every thing Spider-Man as possible. Also they did not skip a beat with the soundtrack either! It's Fire 🔥! The only thing I had to say in any sort of negative way was the record scratch of a cliff hanger ending it had. I went and saw it early and wanted to go in completely blind so I had no idea it would end abruptly as it did. That kind of left it on a sour note for me. Like I never had a whole theater erupt in groans and exasperation like that before. I'm not so upset now, but I won't lie it bummed me out a bit. I also don't know if they'll have a lot for whole other movie too, but we'll see I guess 🤷

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
(2018)

After Thoughts
I too often forget how amazing this film is (see what I did there 😉🤣). First off, the animations is stunning! It's seems so ground breaking and different than what you would expect to see in a mainstream animated film. In fact every part of this movie seems like so much love was put into it. The soundtrack is so great and felt tailored to fit this movie! Also the family aspect of this movie is perfect! Like I love how they show both side of family difficulties, neither side was unfair, it just takes some time and patience to work together at keeping that relationship healthy. Also the cast is stacked and I think it's better than anything the MCU has done with Spider-Man! I could see this being a classic, cause it was definitely the biggest surprise of 2018.

West Side Story
(1961)

After Thoughts
An amazing classic musical! I love this story and loved the Original and Remake. The songs are classic especially "America", such a creative sing showing the pros and cons of America in the sane song. It's amazing this song even came out in 1961. It also is something we need currently in our modern era. I love the way color was used in this film as well. It is so Iconic! The story is heart warming and tragic and a great adaption of a Shakespeare type story. I also loved all the different angled shots. The Remake with Steven Spielberg has some amazing shots as well. But a really solid musical with plenty of catchy song to get stuck in your head for days.

Carrie
(1976)

After Thoughts
I had such a roller coaster of thoughts before going into this movie and with my thoughts after 😅😅😅. When going into this I've always heard about the Stephen King film Carrie! It was in pop culture a lot and I expected it to be a great film! But then in the horror film community I found myself in, I heard a lot of people talking about how this is one of the bad ones. So I when going into I expected it to be super boring and was kind of dreading it, but I was pleasantly surprised! I don't know if it was the low expectations I had going into it, but it's not a bad film. I think the bullying was shown enough where you and people you hated but it didn't drag it out where the film just became miserable. It was really great seeing a young John Travolta in here, I was not expecting that! And I think that Sissy Spacek is a hugely underrated actress. But overall I was really surprised with how much I liked it.

From Dusk Till Dawn
(1996)

After Thoughts
This films feels like a movie tailor made for me! First off I love Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. So having both of them involved with this from, directing, writing, and acting I knew I was going to love it. You can definitely see both of thier styles in both parts of the movie, and I do think both thier styles go well together, I just think the moving from one style to the other could be a little better. It was a time bit jarring. But Quentin Tarantino really shows his acting chops here. And Salma Hayek's scene is probably the sexiest scene I'm Film history. The comedy and action were amazing and exactly what you'd expect from these two. And Quentin and Clooney's chemistry was way better than I expected it to be!

Evil Dead Rise
(2023)

After Thoughts
Another solid addition to the Evil Dead Franchise!!!! Again keeping this up there with Scream as one of the most solid Horror Franchises. I really liked this film even though it's probably my least favorite Evil Dead movie. It's still solid, but the characters are what keep it down to me. I really didn't like or care too much for any of them. I know the original Trilogy didn't have a lot of notable character either (besides Ash), but still they at least had Ash and he became so so Iconic! And with the Evil Dead Remake the character had some pretty good character stories and reason to keep invested with them. This one not so much, other than the main character Beth being pregnant you don't really have much to care about. I know that probably sounds stupid with this just being a horror movie. But it keeps them from being meat bags. It's still good though, the sound was actually really good, The theater I watched it in had the surround sound turned up high and it really had a good effect. The gore it close to the original, and they didn't not waist any time getting to the scares. Very solid!

Tôkyô monogatari
(1953)

After Thoughts
A sweet slow paced story that has a big message. This is not a film a lot of modern viewers will enjoy. It is slow and deliberate with ever scene and not like most Fast paced movies we are used to. I don't say this as something to brag about having watch. The slow pace was hard for me as well. But I stuck with it because I enjoyed what it had to say about the generational conflicts between parents and thier children. You can read most of the conflict by the faces and what is not said by thier children and them as well. This movie is not the most stand out when it comes to camera angles and sound, but the story and theme it represents is masterful. The fact that so much is said without saying it is a true talent by Yasujiro Ozu and the entire cast.

Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi
(2001)

After Thoughts
Probably Studia Ghibli best and most beautiful film in thier Collection. I often find myself switching back and forth on if Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle is my favorite Ghibli film. The animation is obviously gorgeous, and every scene looks like it was painted by hand. The story is very delightful and creative, I honestly haven't seen anything like it ever before! Also I think the voice work for both the subed and dubed are both really well done. I also liked the way magic is used during the story, it's more fable like than Harry Potter like. Only down side to me might be the soundtrack in my personal opinion. It's just the most forgettable part of the movie, as everything else is so memorable.

Requiem for a Dream
(2000)

After Thoughts
Wow! What did I just watch! This is definitely worth a watch....it just won't be fun 😅😅. I had absolutely no idea what I was getting when starting this movie, I just saw it on the IMDb Top 250 and thought I'd give it a try. First off, this movie has a message to say and it says it in a really solid way without it coming off as preachy and I think that's the difference in how much I liked this movie compared to the Whale. I also like how we had four protagonist and got to see how drugs effected each of thier lives. I was also really impressed with the representation of not only just illegal substances but also prescribed drugs. Also Incredible performances from Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, Marlon Wayans, and of course the always solid Ellen Burstyn. They portrait each path perfectly. I also liked the dreamy feel to the whole movie, even though it was incredibly rough to watch when I got done watching it I felt not only worn out but also in a daze. This movie is still relevant today unfortunately and think it has a lot more to say.

The King of Comedy
(1982)

After Thoughts
Okay, so I really didn't know how much the Joker stole from this film. But wow! I understand why a lot of hard core Martin Scorsese Film lovers hated the Joker. I honestly wished I had seen The King Of Comedy first, because I kind of knew where everything was going. And I think that took away from my enjoyment. Instead of me learning that Robert De Niro's character was a bit crazy or enjoying the reveals of his mental state through scenes of him showing up at Jerry's Office or house or in his talking to himself scenes, instead I was just like, "I know he's crazy, move on". And I really hate that. I don't blame this movie for it or dislike it, that just how it is when having seen a movie that basically rips it. Robert De Niro is solid in it, but nothing career defining to me. I honestly think his role in Meet The Parents in more memorable. Jerry Lewis was solid as well. But overall solid movie, I want to reqatch it again once I have some more time between having seen the Joker. The story were way too similar and it's not The King Of Comedy's fault.

To Kill a Mockingbird
(1962)

After Thoughts
A definite classic! Wow I went into this film with my expectations low. I've only heard good things about the movie To Kill A Mockingbird, and about Gregory Peck's performance in it. But I honestly remembered hating the book in high-school, so that dampened my expectations and I thought it would be border. I honestly don't know what I was smoking in high-school cause this movie was great! The dialog was what stood out to me at first, It so fast and funny and charming. I don't know if that is due to the movie writers or to Harper Lee in her original book. But it was great! Also I see how this role became one of Peck's biggest performances, cause it was captivating. Especially the court room scene. I was on the edge of my seat during it. Also it was charming seeing a really young Robert Duvall.

Raiders of the Lost Ark
(1981)

After Thoughts
A charming classic that never gets old! This is one of those movies that hard to say anything about it cause it's all already been said. This movie firstly has the iconic Stephen Spielberg in the directors chair and the beloved George Lucas as a writer. It has a iconic soundtrack that is like 2001 A Space Odyssey with the amount of importance it plays to cinema history. Overall it's a perfect Action Adventure through and through. The story is paced perfectly by giving you scenes where you learn about the plot, but it also has a healthy amount of action. Harrison Ford and Karen Allen are perfect Main characters with thier charisma and charm. There is really nothing else to say about it honestly!

Elvis
(2022)

After Thoughts
Interesting little biopic. I honestly went to with the lowest of the low expectations but was surprised by it and understood the feedback that I heard about it. It still had some flaws but I will say that my biggest concern still even after hearing everyone saying that Austin Butler was great in this role, was that I would not buy his Elvis was totally turned around and at several times towards the end of the movie I kept forgetting I wasn't watching the actual Elvis. So kudos to Austin Butler. But the role I actually had Total confidence in was Tom Hanks Colonel Tom Parker, actually ended up disappointing me. It Film very jaring whenever he was on screen and he was on screen a lot. I did enjoy the direction from Baz Luhrmann but in the end the over hyper editing left me exhausted and it made the film feel longer than it was. I honestly didn't care for the soundtrack hardly at all and only had one or two modern songs that didn't totally create a record scratch in whatever scene they were in. But it was pretty good. No need to rush out and see it. But pretty decent.

F9
(2021)

After Thoughts
I don't know what people are saying, when it comes to "how bad this movie was" but it's honestly not that bad at all. I thought it was better than Ghe Fate Of The Furious that's for sure. But everyone was acting like it was just God awful and it wasn't. Yeah I'm sure by the 9th Film a lot of people are tired of the Frachise, but they still find ways to do new things and add new characters (even if one of the new things is going to outerspace). But even with the crazy nature of shooting someone it Space in a car I thought it was introduced in a fun manner. John Cena was a good addition, and surprisingly played a character I liked. I usually don't prefer his acting style. They had plenty of fan service, I really liked all the fan Service for Tolyo Drift. But it's still solid. Everyone returns to thier roles well. And the action is just as good. Nothing really great or really bad about the film.

Avatar
(2009)

After Thoughts
I'm just going to say, James Cameron has not made a bad film in my opinion. I know it was popular to make fun on Avatar a while there, and while I'm only the most casual of fan of the Avatar films. I do appreciate it and think it a good film. I do prefer The Way Of Water to the original cause I saw it first and already knew the fates of a lot of people from the first film. But it's still really impressive for 2009. I may not understand why James Cameron wants to spend the rest of his career making them, but I still enjoyed them. The main point against these movies for me still is I can't attach myself to any of the characters. They still feel disconnected to me. I wanted it to be better than The Way Of Water, but honestly it's about the same to me. But still enjoyable and I don't think it deserves the hate it gets some times.

Pitch Perfect
(2012)

After Thoughts
I tell you what, since being married to my wife she has showed me a lot of "Female Target Comedies" that I had no faith in that turned out to be really good, and this is one of them. Since I wasn't the target audience I never checked it out, or wanted to (except for wanting to see Rebel Wilson breakout role). But I was pleasantly surprised. The music was really fun and a blast to the past now. Anna Kendrick was a really solid lead role, and the surrounding cast was great. I liked how every background person ended up having a defining characteristic and that just perfectly adds to the comedy. I enjoyed this quiet a lot and am excited for watching it in the future with my wife!

Rambo: Last Blood
(2019)

After Thoughts
Not bad for the long wait. It's always great to see Sylvester Stallone in my favorite role of his as John Rambo! I loved seeing this softer fatherly side of him, and the ending scene at the ranch was great. I loved that they continued with the gorilla warfare and the gore was great too! I just don't care for how they left it off. To me I can tell this was probably the cheapest made Rambo film and it kind of shows. And I just liked where Rambo (2008) left it off at better than Rambo Last Blood. Also I could not get invested in his Niece, she felt more like a plot device than anyone we actually cared about. It might be some minor nit picks, but overall enjoyable, just doubt I'll reach for it over some of the others.

Titanic
(1997)

After Thoughts
I've seen this movie a lot while growing up and used to hate it, upon watching it with my wife it was alright. I still am not fully attached to the couple dynamic personally and I think that is what is needed to fully love this movie. Even though I will say that Kate Winslet was above and beyond in this movie! I will say Titanic and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind has gave me so much appreciation for her acting skills. I only knew her from the Titanic when I was a kid and didn't know how much of an amazing actress she was. But I was really impressed with her in this role. Also I don't know if it was just the Bluray disc I watched or maybe it's just always been this way, but there were some CGI that did not hold up at all. And by the end of the movie I hated that song, they played it waaaayyyy too much!

Rambo
(2008)

After Thoughts
Rambo!!!!! This is a sick solid return for the Rambo Franchise! It's dirty and grimey but it works. This is going to be a big contrast for anyone used to the glistening muscles type of Rambo. But it really works with the rest of the franchise. It makes scenes for Rambo to be as jaded and harden as we find him and there is still plenty there for you to know this is the same character, from the bow and arrows, to the speech of "Live For Nothing, Or Die For Something", to even the ending scene with his nod to the outfit he wore in First Blood. The action is gorey but entertaining. It's definitely a solid addition.

Where the Wild Things Are
(2009)

After Thoughts
I am really confused on who this movie was made for.....like I don't know a single kid that would not be bored with this movie before the first 30 minutes, then all the actaul conversations where so dumbed down that I don't know of any adults that would want to watch this film either. I honestly had a really hard time staying interested in this film, and the actaul Wild Things did not look all that great. I loved the book growing up and was very familiar with the book, but I think this was something that should have not been made into a film. There was not really enough there to be made into a movie in the first place and the Wikd Things were not designed to really be character like this movie was trying to make them. So it ended up making these Wild Things really odd. If you wanted to call this movie pretty o guess you could, it kind of felt like this was made for a certain Pintrest Mom's idea of what she wanted her kids bedroom to look like. Overall I don't suggest waiting your time on this movie at all.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
(2004)

After Thoughts
Wow! What a film! This is what I think of when people talk about film being a art. This is a pinnacle of what films could be. It has something to say and it says it in such a new and interesting way. And it feels like every part of it is intentional and handpicked for this story. The soundtrack is beautiful and I love the camera work for this film. The camera work helps add to the feeling of each scene. Jim Carrey is fantastic in this movie! I honestly kept forgetting that he was Jim Carrey and he went into his role so well, same with Kate Winslet! Perhaps even more with her! Like my God! Why did they not get the Oscar's in 2004! This is an Amazing movie, and definitely a great place to start if you want more meaning to your movies.

Anger Management
(2003)

After Thoughts
Pretty good middle of the road Adam Sandler film. I think I went in with too high of expectations when I saw that Jack Nicholson was in it. But it was just a pretty good little film. I had a hard time getting into it because for some reason everything just felt so off. Like I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be a joke that no one reacted to him on the plane appropriately, and I know at the end it was revealed a lot of people including the judge were in on it. But at first everyone just acted so weird and I was like, is this a joke or what's going on? It just made it hard to get into it and enjoy the jokes that were there. But now I know the story premise I think it'll be better on reawatch. I didn't dislike the movie I know it's sounds like a negative review but I actually liked the film. Jack Nicholson was hilarious in it. But just not one of Sandler's best.

Escape from L.A.
(1996)

After Thoughts
Shlocky fun! And in the best way! This is probably more cheesy than Escape From New York, but it's a fun time. Snake Plissken's lines were more over the top and cringey than the last movie. But they still have some charm. I liked how they knew they were going to hit the same beats as the last movie, but used that to thier advantage and made the government charcters try and use that to thier advantage as well. Steve Bascemi was a surprise, and I really enjoyed his inclusion in the film. The ending was probably the biggest highlight of the movie though. I thought it was pretty interesting and would be really interested in seeing a third film picking up with old Snake Plissken surviving in an post apocalyptic Austin TX where society crumbled into Anarchy due to the lack of electricity. I don't know, but I think it would pretty sick.

Transformers
(2007)

After Thoughts
Wow, I am not going to lie, I always forget how awesome this movie is!!! Like that Yellow 2008 Chevrolet Camaro was my dream car my whole childhood, and Megan Fox was my dream girlfriend too 😅😅😅 But the comedy isn't bad, the action is really good and the special effects still hold up really well. I forgot how much action was in it honestly, like there is a lot, and like I said, it's really well done! Like I am always entertained whenever I watch it. I honestly still feel pumped up after having seen it so much 😅😅 But I really do miss when Shia LeBeouf was big in Hollywood. Like my Nostalgia Goggles where really strong loving back in it. But I honestly love it still, it really really holds up super well. I always forget how well it does hold up.

The Gold Rush
(1925)

After Thoughts
Nice Chaplin Film, not his best but good enough if your a fan of his. If your not a fan of Chaplin, you don't have to go out of your way to see it. It's on the lines of a Looney Tunes Bugs Bunny skit. The tramp is lovable as ever, and the overall stunts and gags were great for 1925 and can even bring a chuckle to the modern audience. But I think it lacks the heart that some of his later films had. The romance is sweet and lovable, and it's pretty interesting because they actually had a "bad guy" type character at a few times in the movie. But overall it's a little forgettable compared to his other works.
