Gen Z is not going to save the world, it ruined the show. I'm a progressive and imma say this: This show doesn't know what it wants to be or who it is trying to appeal to and it should've stuck with sci-fi and history. There's huge potential there with the subject matter, the flashbacks to the '50s/origin story are interesting (and the only place you'll see decent acting aside from Papa Russell), you want to see what's unfolding (though some plot holes and the goofy scietist is annoying), you've got the history, mystery, sci-fi, conspiracy and even a bit of post-apoc crowd on the hook, wanting mature developed script and characters and they go and mess it up spectacularly. It devolves into teenage Harry Potter/Scooby Doo or angsty edgelord drama too often. The young characters are inexplicably and outrageously unlikable. Obnoxious doesn't even begin to cover it...I find myself wishing they get eaten most of the time. I have no emotional attachment or empathy for them because they're mostly just awful. Even when there's no need for it they're hostile and entitled. Look at that edge and rizz. Empowerment means snappy rudeness and sociopathy!! We're all expected to believe that Monarch, this huge global organisation tasked with protecting the world from monsters, trying to find out what some super important person knows, a person the reason the title is what it is...a descendent of the founders...has never searched the known offices of that person even after they disappear and instead decide It's going to loosely follow his unqualified kids and an inclusivity hire hoping they'll work it out first because it's their "legacy" (this is oft repeated. This makes you uniquely skilled on a mitochondrial level apparently because your grandparents discovered a monster in the 1950s. It makes no sense other than to justify the clunky title)...Kids r the future y'all. They'll save the planet! Even more terrifying, it took me until episode 6 to find out bc-face San Fran girl and co. Aren't teenagers. She was a teacher in the flashbacks not a student. These little creeps are supposed to be grown adults? Lord help us. The timing is just ridiculous of events too in present-day. I checked out by episode 3-4 mostly and wished we'd get some GoT culling so the adults could talk. I just kept watching for the 1950s flashbacks and to see Kurt Russell a little bit.
