Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
(2024)

Empty canister after Fury Road
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a different movie than beloved Mad Max: Fury Road. Less interesting characters, less engaging story, less spectacular action scenes. How is that possible after epic Fury Road?

I think the movie's story doesn't have fuel to drive me to the edge of my seat like Fury Road did. There were couple moments when I believed it was going to be something emotionally insane but all of them ended flat. The characters are so simple, there is no depth. Furiosa - a kid who was kidnapped, became a badass woman and then waited for the revenge. There is no journey to follow her states of mentality. No preparation, no inner doubts, no weak moments. Just an empty character like a canister. Sadly, the movie isn't building its story to make me excited what's next, what if something goes wrong, it just gives me well-looking cinematography, well-filmed action scenes and just fine dialogues.

On the good side, I am happy Chris Hemsworth got another fun character to play after El Royale. It was pleasure to watch him on the screen. He was charismatic, little crazy, fearless, a man with dark past. The post-apo world turns people into pure madness and he is an example of that.

Another good thing is world-expanding. The movie presents new locations what are strategically important and make the general experience a little bit more attractive.

So if you're expecting a movie with action-packed high stakes, you might get disappointed. If you're expecting JUST a good story and beautiful shots, special effects etc., go watch it.

This movie is hard to rate. Im going to give it 7/10 because it was quite good but I also feel it could be even 5/10.

The review title suggests the production was financed quite good to satisfy Zendaya's wallet. It's been a long time since I saw such brazen product placements. I believe everyone was able to spot most of them because the brands are taking so much space - Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Jeep, Taco Bell, Nike, New Balance, Adidas... If you're having movie night at home with friends and you want to get drunk in a creative way, take a sip every time when you see a product placement ;)

Sometimes I felt I was watching pure cinema but too many times I was thinking: Did Zack Snyder direct it? - I had to skip/fast forward some slow-mo parts. So annoying and overused for no reason. Even combined with techno music made me happy at first but sooner than later I was sick of it. The art of using specific tools audio-visually matters but the director forgot their presence is not success guaranteed.

Acting... Zendaya is so dreadful, why is she playing the same character all the time? Is she new The Rock? The guys were fine.

Sound editing - probably an Oscar nomination

Story - could be better, the first half super interesting but I realized it doesn't offer much. A toxic walking red flag (Tashi) and two emasculated simps who don't respect themselves. The story doesn't let you to understand their motives - you don't know why they love her besides her beauty, you don't know why they're keep going with that toxic woman, you don't know anything about them besides they are mentally weak which is shown soon. Im quite disappointed.

Alcohol and friends would fix this movie ;)

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
(2024)

Please, just remove humans from this
Monster = hurrah Humans = garbage

Another Monster-Verse installment to the collection gave me another reason to visit my cinema. Luckily, I wasn't disappointed, I got everything what I expected which might be summoned by the two equations above.

About humans: If you want to watch the movie at home, don't waste time on humans subplot. It's completely pointless. The dialogues aren't funny or smart. They serve poor exposition which is painfully exhausting to watch. You see the monsters fighting and these "characters" are explaining in between: oh, he is protecting! - Come on, who wrote this? In my opinion if Legendary Studios wants to include humans, they should at least try making them just little interesting or just remove them completely. None of them is doing anything necessary, furthermore whatever they're doing doesn't make any sense. Why the hell are they in the Hollow Earth without protection? One guy is just in a Hawaiian shirt. The amount of dangerous monsters is not alarming, I guess... Paper Boy is filming everything but the British guy in a Hawaiian shirt says something like: It's better to keep it in a secret, this ancient civilization shouldn't be exposed to our world. The girl from Godzilla Vs. Kong (she is from that world and has weird X-Men power (?)) is among modern people, so the world already knows the underground world. What does he want to hide? There is more of this stupidity.

About the monsters: Kong is the lead. His journey is simple, he feels lonely, he wants to have a family of his kind. From the trailers you know, there is more giant apes, so I am happy to see them because I am Team Kong :) I'd want to appreciate the "dialogues" between Kong and this little ginger fella. They don't use words as we do but believe me, these two are more interesting than the humans. You will enjoy it.

Godzilla and the rest are just monsters. Sadly Godzilla isn't intimidating in this movie, his only goal is to gain the pink level of nuclear power and then use it to fight the bad monkey. However, the fight scenes are awesome - this is why we are watching this type of movies, so if you're a fan of giant monsters, I recommend Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire... and don't expect to see raise of "the new empire" in this movie. It's a kinda awkward title generated by ChatGPT.

The comedy you want to watch!
You may wonder - 10/10? That's absurd.

Listen, if you like: Tag, Neighbors, No Hard Feelings, Good Boys, Central Intelligence... This movie is for you. It's a perfectly goofy comedy what gives lots of good moments to laugh. The performance of John Cena is very electrifying, he is the best guy in the cast. Zac Efron also did an amazing job, generally if you like his comedies you'll probably love it too.

The story is interesting and well thought because each character is not flat nor empty. Their motives and backgrounds fit into the general story so whatever they're doing, it makes sense. I didn't find any incredibly stupid moments. The story fundamentals are lying on the lies the three men have been saying for years and their goal is to create perfect scenarios to escape the reality. When the trick starts working less effectively, therefore the movie is taking a fun direction towards a spiral of unexpected moments, what slowly add small pieces to the characters, and makes the movie unforgettable. Enjoy! :)

Life on Our Planet
(2023)

GENERIC
After the trailers I expected a high quality documentary but I got the most boring episode one ever.

The show doesn't start strong. After years of watching TV I have basic knowledge about Life on our planet so watching another take on absolutely basic information of the beginning of our existence is so boring. They showed random animals, what are just standing and obviously eating, to waste time. No spicy details, nothing what could expand my basic knowledge. This is not how you make ANOTHER show about animals overall.

I didn't even finished the episode one. When it started showing me: Look, dinosaurs died, big rock hit and look now: mammals: ostriches, lions, rhinos... I am like: NO WAY. I'm out.

Go watch something else.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
(2004)

Doctor Strange: Multiverse in Madness wishes to be THIS
It's 2023 and I don't remember if Ive ever heard about the movie til this day. Such a gem in romance genre!

Beautiful relationship between romance and sci-fi. The unreal aspect brings a lot of fresh air to the story which makes the movie far away from generic romantic movies we all know. I love how special effects are well done - they decided to use practical and computer generated tricks to make every single scene interesting and good. The story leads us through uncharted mind of Jim Carrey's character's mind, which reminds me Doctor Strange: MoM but it's 1000 times better because it is meaningful and each time tells us a part of the story where we can learn more about the relationship.

Obviously it's a Jim Carrey movie so the writer gave us some comedic moments but I think these land on side characters mostly which isn't bad. I liked it.

The performance of the two actors was really great and made me sure their characters felt real despite of some sci-fi circumstances.

I do think Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a perfect example of benchmark for great storytelling and mixing genres.

Actually Supports Men and Women
This movie is an intelligence test. I saw many comments how people're describing the movie attacks men. It actually doesn't. I am a man, maybe even a stereotypical one - I loved Sigma Ken part, it was hilarious. I have a degree in Economics and love to work out in the gym, watching action movies, dark jokes, drink not cheap beers...

I believe the movie told a full of heart story how both sides (men and women) should team work more! The story perfectly told in a satirical way explains in what areas we all struggle. I won't go deep dive in because my short review doesn't contain any spoilers but trust me, the movie tries to be supportive and share a thoughtful and warm message in a fun way. It isn't woke, it doesn't treat the audience like a dumbass, it doesn't tokenise anybody, it doesn't force anything. It represents people lost in the world, trying to find their place and I think it says: Chill out.

Don't be mad. Go there with open heart and mind and have fun because I did. Ryan Gosling was fantastic.

The Flash
(2023)

It's fun like Venom
1. At some points CGI is awful, looks like from a 2013 game and I don't understand why - what the hell happened? However, if you prepare yourself that CGI is bad, you can go through the movie without disappointment.

2. Ezra Miller as two versions of Barry works amazingly in all dimensions. The technical aspect of creating dialogue scenes is great, I didn't feel any disconnection when two Barries were talking and standing together. Well done.

3. The best action scenes are these with Michael Keaton. His Batman is stunning, how he moves and behaves is pure enjoyment. They actually made him interesting, satisfying and worthy to watch. It's not cringy or whatsoever.

4. Supergirl is alright - she is neither bad nor good. I wish there was more space for her. She doesn't have any kind of pay-off, she is there to make the universe more pleasuring in way of multiverse stuff.

5. I like the humor, the jokes weren't forced or oversaturated like in MCU.

6. The story itself is decent. We can clearly understand the motives behind Barry's activity. The story is emotional and I can feel what the character is feeling. The structure is different because it reminds me Top Gun: Maverick - there is no big villain but a mission what Barry needs to accomplish. It's a crazy journey full of heart what lets the Flash grow as a human being. I wasn't having any major problem following the story, I just feel there is a room to improve.

(After watching Across the Spider-Verse, I can notice Miles and Barry have something in common so I'm guessing the ending of Beyond the Spider-Verse might be very similar.)

7. There is one post-credit scene (at the very end) - don't watch it because it's a stupid joke. It doesn't tease anything honestly.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
(2023)

To all fans of Spider-Man - 9.5/10
The movie is a love letter to all fans because the fans met Spider-Man via various sources such as the comics, tv shows, movies, games or even toys. I am happy people behind Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse are super aware of it and respectfully assemble all of us here. People were excited to watch No Way Home but in my opinion this movie makes it way better because multiverse is a solid part of the story what contains something more than a team-up and references.

1. The animation is groundbreaking and raises the bar even higher for animated movies because it is beautifully connected with scenes, not just to make a unique universe

2. However it is very intense, I think it's way more faster so if you want to enjoy the style you might feel little annoyed especially when English is not your first language

3. There is a lot of Spider-Man variants which is amazing. I am not spoiling anything but you'll love it so much. They're superb and the story around it is well built. I would say it breaks down the multiverse in a better way than Loki or No Way Home.

4. Many variants but not all are used properly. For example Spider-Woman who is pregnant, her plot is irrelevant nor interesting. Peter B. Parker has something more to tell but I didn't like a fact his personality was turned into an overlong joke at some point.

5. Miles Morales is the core of the movie along with Spider-Gwen. Both of them are similar, I see them as a complementary piece which is a big plus. The first act is based on their very personal stories and relationships with their parents what become their motivation to lead us through the movie.

6. Miguel Ohara is Spider-Man 2099 who is, let's say, a boss of the Spider-Verse. His backstory is briefly described which doesn't make us bored, same with his motivation. You'll become a fan of him if you aren't yet.

7. My favorite part of the movie is the second act because we meet all the variants and the entire story catches the train of multiverse. Everything becomes focused on repercussions of Spot (villain) what is interesting and makes you wonder if you were right about the multiverse watching MCU projects.

8. The third act is becoming darker and draw a line between protagonist and villains. The story goes to an emotional place, ready to be continued in Beyond the Spider-Verse.

The movie flies like Jordan
Everybody knows the history at some point so they don't treat you like an idiot and you can enjoy every minute of it.

As I said in the title, the movies is fantastically directed. I am not a big fan of basketball but I was super hooked in by perfect acting of one of the best today working actors - Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Chris Tucker and Viola Davis. The dialogues aren't boring, the characters give us reasons to be engaged and follow the struggle and sometimes you laugh which is always a plus.

The structure of the movie is divided by 10 points of success which means you can expect educational information. Affleck's directing gives the audience an opportunity to follow the movie structure easily what makes this movie understandable in terms of individual character's goal. Everybody is important and shares the screen-time as much it's needed.

Surprisingly, the movie begins with a tribute to the 80's which is definitely a love letter to one of the most iconic decade of American movie history and it's important to mention Nike was becoming a popular brand especially in some movies such as Back to the Future. That's why the beginning fits perfectly.

I do recommend this movie AND to make it full, I also recommend The Last Dance (perfect documentary about MJ)

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
(2023)

Guardians deserve your money!
Briefly....

A conclusion of the trilogy and beyond (Infinity War, Endgame and the holiday special) is a full of heart and warm tragic-comedy of the weird family. James Gunn (the director) proved he loves the characters once again and here is why:

The movie explains Rocket's backstory by using retrospective scenes in a smart way to track the story perfectly. I am beginning my review with Rocket because he is the main character in Volume 3. He has a lot of screen-time and we are able to understand his traumatic experience and feel his pain. His story is connected with The High Evolutionary (the villain) who is a really well portrayed bad guy in a classic way - I love the moment when Star Lord is already tired of this new-era bs of misunderstood villains (so do I). Luckily, the bad guy is just an evil scientist with his scary vision presented in a soft-horror way. James Gunn decided to reinvented the third act and gave up with a classic bombastic finale where good guys are fighting a bad buy. It's a movie about the family, so we spend more time with them to reach their well-done pay-offs. However, nobody should be worried about lack of badass action scenes because it's a plenty of them and these are unforgettable.

One of my favourite parts is the ending because we as the audience have an opportunity to think about Groot's language. I don't want to spoil anything but pay attention. I think it's a lovely thanks to us.

GOTG movies are well-known for great music and funny jokes. Once again, if you loved it previously, there's a high chance you will laugh and nod your head :)

My rating isn't 10/10 because I found some flows such as underused Adam Warlock and Drax. I feel Drax is kept to be a goofy comic relief all the time. He is a warm muscular man who could do definitely more. He is relevant to the story but I think he should have more depth. Adam Warlock is impressive when he appears for the first time and after that there is nothing to do with him.

The movie is definitely the best one since Infinity War. The reason behind it is, it's not just another blockbuster movie about a space adventure, it's a delicious meal where you can feel the taste of each ingredient.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
(2022)

This movie is a trap
Chadwick Boseman died 2 years ago which meant a lot of problems for Disney. Sadly, these problems are very noticeable in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The movie itself seems to be a good tribute with great music and costumes. I remember the first movie got a lot positive comments about the visuals except the final battle. Here bad CGI is cover by a layer of dark colors. All CGI animals are dark and bland. The result of it is miserable because Wakanda is beautiful but not in BP2, and Namor's home is awful (Atlantis in Aquaman movie is full of colors - ironically, MCU is dark, not DC).

Making an overlong movie wasn't a good decision because the story doesn't bring interesting things on the table. Many scenes area unnecessary or boring. The cast seems okay with Angela Bassett as the MVP. A man starring as Namor is good as well. However I don't see him as a better villain/anti-hero than Killmonger. His motivation seems childish or like a caveman. The script doesn't allow the cast to make them full - I find 3 characters are wasted and another 2 are here just to connect Wakanda to big Marvel lore which is empty. I want to say Riri Williams aka new Iron Man is introduced very badly because her presence makes unlikeable. I know some people like her because she is so cool etc but she killed cops and nothing happens.... Ryan Coogler wrote a bad script.

The third act is very simple and doesn't land as something we all gonna remember. This mini review doesn't contain spoilers so I will describe it as cheap, lazy, naive and unsatisfying climax. There is one mid-credit scene which makes me sure to forget this movie and wait for Black Panther 3.
