Infinity Pool
(2023)

Jaw-dropping visual masterpiece & Mia Goth of course
This movie is a visual *chef's kiss*. It is Sci-fi White Lotus mixed with some Midsommar and a dash of Misery. With that being said, it was a surprising unique film that hasn't really been done before. The cinematography was gorgeous, lush, and exciting. The acting was top tier with Mia & Alexander (someone get Mia Goth an Oscar). During the "trippy" scenes, I definitely was feeling the fantasy with the insane visuals. There are some incredibly disturbing scenes and lots of flashing lights that will not be suitable for everyone. I will say... this probably isn't the movie to take your granny to see but any sci-fi/horror nerd is gonna enjoy this film! As a film lover and enthusiast, this movie has not left my brain.

Nope
(2022)

This movie does for cloud spotting what Jaws did for swimming
This movie brought a sense of magic and adventure to such a dark, depressing time. Peele is such an incredible director/writer who truly makes his audience feel totally immersed in his films. Nope is an incredibly unique take on the idea of "aliens" and "ufos". It also has a deeper meaning that illuminates the spectacles that we all witness on a daily basis in these modern times. It truly felt like a mix of Spielberg and M. Night Shyamalan with the elements of horror and sci-fi. If you can, I HIGHLY recommend seeing this film in an IMAX theater because it was shot with IMAX cameras and it really adds so much depth because the cinematography was absolutely incredible. This is definitely a film worth watching in theaters this summer.

Where the Crawdads Sing
(2022)

Hallmark brought to the Silver Screen
Went to see this with low expectations just from seeing the weird trailer. Also, I was a fan of the book and recently read it before viewing this. I was hoping that this would be decent since I enjoyed the book but I was totally wrong. It was an absolute CRINGE-FEST full of bad acting and awkward love scenes. The set/cinematography was actually laughable. The marsh (which basically played a HUGE part of the book) looked like a cheap, pristine set that was about as real as the fake moss you can buy from Michael's craft store. The character development was completely lacking and there was absolutely no chemistry between the actors. Kya was literally a MARSH girl and didn't have an ounce of dirt on her. They also seemed to skip most of Kya's experiences as a child which really made the adult character of Kya feel like something was lacking. This film just felt like an extremely rushed project that should have just went straight to the Hallmark channel for all the Boomers to watch. It's definitely one of the worst films I've seen this year.

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
(2021)

Never thought I'd cry over a shell
Marcel the Shell with Shoes on is an extremely heartwarming and touching film for even the most cynic of human beings. Mixing comedy with some real life human lessons this film truly pulls on all of your heart strings. Kids will love Marcel but the adults will truly value and appreciate the message behind this touching movie. If you are feeling down about life in general, this is a film for you.
