Dune: Part Two
(2024)

Truly a masterpiece
After watching the advanced screening, we were blown away by Part 2 of Dune. It continues seamlessly after Part 1, with the same masterful soundtracks, action scenes and acting.

The movie flew by despite it being almost three hours. The pacing was incredibly well done and nothing felt too fast or too slow.

The CGI was incredibly realistic and the characters were portrayed so well by the lead actors. The chemistry between the characters felt so real - nothing felt fake or forced.

It's truly difficult finding a movie that contains everything - flawless screenplay, writing, sound, acting and pacing, but Dune 2 does it all.

One of the best movies of 2024 for sure.

The Fall of the House of Usher
(2023)

An Artistic Rendition Of Horror
This movie is incredibly intelligent. Flanagan did an amazing job intertwining Poe's work into his latest horror movie - though I think it's more of a drama/horror than a true horror flick.

WHO IT'S NOT FOR: It's not for horror jump scare enthusiasts, action lovers, pure horror diehard fans like The Shining/Silence of the Lamb. If you liked haunting of hill house, this might not be for you, as the pace is a bit slower (there's a lot of buildup before the final revelation) and you must additionally enjoy and be able to savor the dialogue in order to sit through this one.

I believe that people are downvoting this movie because it lacks a lot of horror elements, like tense buildups and jump scares, but it's more of a horror flick that has more artistic elements along with a sad but painful reflection of what's wrong with society today.

It's loosely based on the Sackler family (watch Dopesick or Painkiller if you haven't already) and also has allusions to Poe's poetry within each of the episodes. Each episode is based off one of Poe's poems.

The characters aren't written to be likeable. In fact, I think the audience is meant to hate the characters and feel a sense of relief when they're actually dead. The final monologue by Madison was likely my favorite part of the show.

Definitely worth watching again as there are a lot of details to be picked up on.

Cunk on Earth
(2022)

Repetitive, repetitive, repetitive
I'm normally a fan of dry humour (Nathan for You, the Office, Parks and Recs) but found this to be long-winded and repetitive. Oh, and did I mention repetitive? Cause that's how many times she makes the same type of jokes. The first episode was fine but after that once you've seen the first episode, you've pretty much seen it all cause the humour is all the same. The same blank stares, the same awkward silences and reactions from the experts, the same random word vomit stories that she makes about her friend "Paul", and even her questions are all quite similar. I wouldn't call this intelligent. Wish they stuck to facts as well, cause learning a thing or two from this show would've helped balance out the terrible jokes.
