The Nowhere Inn
(2020)

"All of it is me, none of it is me" - great, modern artist
Annie Clark / St Vincent has been consistently smart, innovative, humble and humourously knowing. She's a modern artist, made for the screen. A rare talent, sharp as a tack.

This is great if you are a fan, but also turned me into one, as I then trawled through her back catalogue (I knew the Polyphonic Spree, but was unaware of her) and was blown away - better late than never.

This documentary tries to play with the format - and that of mockumentaries. Not always successfully, but always sincerely and from a good place. The concert footage is Cracked Actor/Ziggy good and I always appreciate all Carrie B's work.

Glad this was made in this style, as would be too easy for such a talent or management to just present fans with the usual safe, commercial fodder. Just luxuriate in St Vincent's musicality.

The Hunt
(2020)

Clever, fun, filmmaking at its best
Zobel, Lindelof, Cuse and an amazing cast enjoying themselves.

Gilpin stands out, but support is well cast and quality - and Hilary Swank always engages.

Anyone not giving anything these people everdo 7+ can go enjoy their Liam Neeson car-phone-special skills-all turned out nice again movies x.

A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou
(2023)

Epic - comedy is in good hands
Loved Stath, but didn't get series 3 as much as the others, so was unsure if I'd given Jamie and his regulars too much credit. However...

His Comic Relief sketches were inspired, doing his own thing to the max, then a great song by the ensemble.

Wasn't sure about this Netflix special, but stuck the trailer on and was intrigued (the old hospital man needs his own series!). So glad I watched it - I honestly think it's the funniest thing I've watched in the last few years. Some of the sketches were incredibly fresh and unexpected. I've only docked a star for the Best Man sketch, but probably being a bit mean. The only thing similar (to me) is I Think I Should Leave, but both are unique. Want more more more now, but will gladly watch this again, whenever I just want a laugh. Thanks.

The Pale Blue Eye
(2022)

Impressive and classy + Robert Freakin Duval!
Must admit, I saw the 6.5 rating and assumed it'd be solid, but nothing special.

In fact, this was an exceptional piece of storytelling with a great cast; leads and supports at the top of their game and Cooper weaving some interesting strands and getting the feel/period spot on. Loved the dialogue and characterisations, all round.

Hadn't seen Melling in a starring role before, but thought he was incredible. Lots of nuance and clever touches. Really drew you in. Bale was masterful, yet again - Prestige level - and always believable and real. Would be interested to see them both work with Cooper again - even as the same characters.

Any film with Toby Jones gets at least a 7 from me, so happy to score this a mature, intriguing, great looking 10.

Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof
(2022)

Not for Neanderthals - surprisingly!
This is the greatest celebrity/reality/self-improvement show to date. We are so, so lucky to have it!

I have finally joined IMDB to try and negate the 1/10 ratings of people who knew it was not for them and knew they wouldn't buy in to it. Why bother, other than deprive more open-minded people of a truly great show? Go blame the EU ^^

I too was sceptical. I also was unsure of the Holly /Lee Mack presenting picks, even tho I Cannot Believe It Is Not Buddha is a fantastic podcast - not your usual comedy/rotating guests/presenters. However, both are excellent; individually and working of each other. Their relationship with the celebrities & WH seems natural. Lee Mack makes some deliberately jarring jokes, but clearly respects what is happening too.

This experience has a proper "journey" - a term cheapened by Simon Cowell's output etc. Honestly, do yourselves a favour and spend a couple of hours watching the first 2 episodes. Just switch off and accept what you are seeing. I guarantee you will watch it all...or your money back ;)

I agree that we are watching already privileged people have a life changing experience. I do not begrudge any of them, as I too have gained a lot from this show.
