Date Night
(2010)

So bad even with a great cast
I love these two, they have been in some of the great comedy's of the last couple of decades and I generally enjoy everything they are in but this is awful. Super awful! Even for a lightweight action comedy the plot is poor and Mark Whalbergh and Gal Godot are given hammy and basic side parts for maximum comedy effect.

As likeable as they both are , I didn't think they had great chemistry either, it felt like they were funny individually rather than working together

Steve Carrell is normally so fresh and funny at improvising even in a film scenario and Tina Fey is of course, responsible for the some of the best parts of SNL in her era and the wonderful 30 Rock so why either of them took this predictable, lazy and formulaic movie is beyond me, I mean it's genuinely bad.

The Clapper
(2017)

Brilliant independent film with warmth -ignore the bad reviews
Ed Helms plays Eddie Krumble a man who makes a very basic living clapping at infomercials with his sweet but simple friend Chris. Ed Helms plays socially awkward, sweet guys who are bemused by life better than any other actor for me. He delivers with heart in this one. The premise is different and certainly follows the format of an independent low budget piece over anything upscale but the result is heartwarming. Eddie is grieving the death of his wife, trying to make a living in diffulcult times and trying to save to take Judy at the gas station ( Amanda Seyfred) out for dinner. It focuses on real struggles so it is not laugh a miniute like normal Ed Helms films but it is totally relatable for the normal person which I find refreshing.

My only gripe is while Amanda Seyfried is good in this, you don't believe she is going to date Ed Helms and the age difference is really noticeable. For a film that is trying to show the lunacy and hypocrisy of Hollywood, it would have been better placed to cast a women who was Helms age in the very spirit of what they were trying show rather than a much younger and much more attractive women to sell the film

That said it really is good and if you like smaller films that have heart, have a watch of this.

Could of been great but had the wrong balance
Like many reviewers I watched because I adore Ed Helms and his particular blend of comedy but for lots of reasons this show fails to engage with enough people, enough of the time to be funny. Season 1 was overly political and so it was hard to find the comedy in it. Season 2 was funnier but Helms just pushed himself aside to shine a spotlight on the rest of the cast and unfortunately for him, most of the cast are bad actors with little ability so without his charisma this one could never get far. Needed more star power and famous faces. I understand what he was trying to do and no doubt it was all well intentioned but for lots of reasons such as plot and acting, this didn't land.
