How could anybody, but a 12 year old and not a very bright one, give this so called blockbuster a rating better than 5? Its full of reused material from other grade B sci-fi from the past and only has the kids as a way to get an audience to believe this is good. Its a kids movie and if you keep it on that level, maybe its a 5. As an adult I could not bare to see the next foolish and predictable scene.

If Spielberg can put this trash out and be a billionaire, there is something very wrong with American education. The whole story was foobar and way outside anything even remotely worth the price of a theater ticket if that ticket was more than a dollar.

After reading some of the dismal reviews by some posters I am wondering if we watched the same movie? What I often find is many a children and immature, and feel they have the competency to review drama and great art. None sense, children with your popcorn boxes and shallow minds.

There is not much more Mindcat can say that has not already been said by the truly intelligent reviewers here. The movie is a gem and is so far removed in quality at every level from the Hollywood block-bonkers, it probably stuns some of the deer here in the headlights.

See the movie if you have an IQ of 120 or better, you'll love it on all levels. Children stick with Mickey Mouse and the Cadavier that Ate Chicago.

I mean, every time Nelson opens his mouth... like " Are we in Connetecut Yet Dad?" So bad it has to be a comedy. Please tell me it was produced as a comedy? I picked it up at a food store video section reduced from 5.00 dollars to 3.00.

I am sure this will be the center piece treasure of somebody's hilarious old Sci Fi movies someday very soon. I watched it almost to the end for laughs. It was to me the funniest movie I've seen in a while.

Go get these on sale, while they last, because I think there won't be any remastering anytime soon.

I didn't think I would enjoy this flick, but viewed it all the way through on streaming NETFLIX last night.

I was entirely entertained from beginning to end and felt the movie was so good, perhaps it should be on stage.

On the observation side, the two principal characters are gay and the entire flix is about the New York night life, post Andy Worhol New York of the eighties.

It did do some things that were so out of place and discrimination directed towards gay people. Both characters were exaggerated stereotypes, but the over all quality of the script over came anyone's notice.

However, the gay scenes were very muted and only very superficial kissing was seen on screen. The introduction of a young female, who disrobes and is bare chested in a bath tube. Culkin, obviously not bi sexual, disrobes and gets into the tube with her. The scene was so out of place and obviously just gratuitously added for heterosexual voyeur.

Usually I don't like dumb testosterone filled shooter up flicks. This one is different. Different because of over all excellent acting and although over stated, a situation that has taken place in many places, including Columbine.

The irony here is liberal Evan has the right ideas, but isn't ready to take life, money and destroy. Enter the amoral friend and here we have it.

I also enjoyed how the tables got inverted and Evan is thought in confusion, to be the perpetrator, just long enough for the executioner to escape. Morally, one is found ambivalent because, the rampage is hardly excuse that justifies the end. That end we are led to believe is more of the same in the future.

The screen play had a eerie kind of surrealism to it, but at its core, something true about human nature and society in general was disclosed.

I have read some of the whiners, no big stars, bad script. I mean dudes you missed it. Its not about the script of the actors. Its a monster movie that rocks.

I watched it Net Flex on web. Even with my 17 inch lap top it rocks. Its got suspense, terror, bravery and in the end the monster wins. Cool So, as monster Felix's go this is one of the best I've seen in a while. Who cares if it cost ten Mill it did what it was supposed to do. Better by far than Fourth Of July and sadly it leaves you feeling creepy because THEY Won! So would I want to watch it on a 55 inch screen or more, the answer is yes.

I don't understand a 4 rating when this wasn't about actors that demand millions or deep scripts. It speaks for its self. We Lose

I had honestly hoped this would be somehow inspirational , but it's not. Best parts the videography which appears to be electronic HD. Love the sea scenes. Hate the stupid and mawkish love affair. She should have gotten into a high level interaction with the village psychic. Instead always in bed with a bed able man. Wow.. is this not pathetically predictable. The script could also have dealt with her sanity and the small edge she (the central female character) found herself on. It could have been more a grief issue with her young son. But, not a cheap twist of writing to appeal to the less than intelligent. Now, toward the end this whole pathetic mess becomes a farce, because the screen writer was not intelligent enough to give an original and challenging screen play. Just another predictable well heeled authoress with time on her hands. I really wish I had spent the 138 plus minutes in some other way.

It amazed me how hollow and unimaginative HolloW wood writers can be and still get paid.

The music was excellent, sentimental, predictable and well over shot intellectually the whole mess of a movie.

Where to start? First where except in some fool's imagination do academics behave the way these do. I mean here is a professor living as if he is a member of the Saudi Royals and speaking to students as if he is a bar tender? Bad, improbable and insulting.

I really could not believe this entire stunted piece of sausage, but two parts that just had me gasping for air. The student who when inside the professor's palace removes her clothes as if a dog in heat.

The Dean of the college looked like Sarah Palin after a bar hop. I mean, wow.. this is trash, trash trash. How could anyone not notice these horrible errors in characters? Well perhaps Al was offered a some big money he couldn't refuse, but his reputation as an actor has been sullied.

This is a difficult movie to watch. I rented it over the holiday week for entertainment.

I felt the movie draws the viewer into the emotional sea of conflict and any flick that can do that, in my estimation is superior.

Certain parts are very difficult because they deal with sexuality , ciminiality and morals all at once.

The flick should not be rejected simply because it might to thought to be anti-gay. There were parts that I thought could pander to homophobic people.

I would recommend it and advise imagine you are 18 years old and dealing with a psychological experiment where you become the bait for the vampire.

Brian Flemming has done a great amateur DVD that among other things clearly exposes the irrational nature of the human mind.

I enjoyed the various interviews and hope he will not be cowed by the threats and intimidations.

Its going to be a hard road to ever reform Americans, who as he points out belief a a hell and a personal God that they can no more prove than the Easter Bunny.

The tax advantages offered religion and the political bigotry and ignorance spewed in its promotion by politicians is disgusting. Still only a tiny minority of Americans claim no belief in a supernatural creator.

The truth however, is Europeans and even Canadians are far more rational than the typical off the street, Bible or Koran pumping American.

I took this movie from my local library since usually I enjoy Nick Cage in comedy roles, I loved raising Arizona.

This one was such a stick in the mud. I really don't know where to begin, since I agree it attempted to show a single person without a spouse or children, must be unprofilled and unhappy.

The movie begins at a difficult time of year for the singles, Christmas. Yes, family a kids can and do in many cases add so much to a person's life. However I was caught with the unavoidable truth, this was a marriage and quasi religious propaganda movie.

Also the little circumcised (why was that) penis of Joshua added to it terrible American and religiously conforming propagandistic view.

Please Nick Cage and in fact, probably all the cast could have done so much better.

I enjoyed this flick and felt it over all met its mark. Life is to be lived because you never know when those who you love may be having to exit it.

I hated the crummy and cheap women who aggressively pursued the teen age boys. The old woman should be ashamed of herself and maybe arrested? The teenage daughter attempted to shower and get her hands into the young co-star's pants from the get go? Are women that easy? I guess things have changed since I was young. The pill has made women go wild.

But, other than these cheese side plots, I felt the transformations many of the principle characters went through was inspirational.

This was a first, having never been to see this flick in the Cinmea or on TV. I only wish it had been on TV and not the box office.

First, as a musician I think the deep majestic music was totally gratuitous. You would think these fisherman were fighting the Battle of Britain.

On another level, the characters were shallow and that applied to the mawkish script as well.

OK, well, Hollywood almost at its worst, but not quite.

The monster waves were impressive. I wonder what tank they created them in.

This film took itself much too seriously and although there may have been some human drama to enact here, it ended up doing the SOAPY Box routines.

Was hard to sit through.

I had hoped with all the hype, this flick would be something other than a rip off for light minded teens and kids.

I saw almost immediately plagiarism from Aliens Two. The dark glasses, the Marines, ah, sucks.. how did this guy get paid for copying this film script.

Yes, the special video effects are enticing and actually charming, but a movie this alone does not make.

One contributor of like minded view said the film writer took all of three weeks to write this copy cat work.

I find it strange this flick has gotten such over all good reviews. I just viewed it from DVD, having checked it out of the public library and found the dialog almost incomprehensible.

People speak in short bursts and gush out essentially nothing. The script is horrible, the science deplorable.

Yes, the flick may have some historical appeal to fears of the cold war and environmental Armageddon. However, the style was absolutely dated and campy. Although the issues addressed, may insight fears even today, especially with global warming, I have to give this film a 2 and say it was a waste of time.

Well, there are films and then there are turkeys. This thing doesn't qualify in that domain. So what could it be, a failed movie for TV or perhaps a farce fit to show neophyte directors and actors what not to do.

Of course lover boy Pit does his hair thing and his acting is just so pathetic. But, then the entire story is so knee jerk predictable and hackneyed. It doesn't even begin to hold to the cultural standards of the period it was set it.

Usually women who slept around too much in the early part of the century had secret visits to the helper lady. And, they were not respected, especially when they could not decide which brother's bed to entertain in.

Especially funny was Anthony Perkins after his stroke. It was just too camp.

It takes apparently very little of substance to entertain the public, as I am told this "thing" was nominated for several Academies.

Total waste of time and complete gibberish. I am glad I saw this 20 plus years after it came away in the Cinemas. Not worth even the cost the admission then.

I rented this film for old times sack, having viewed it years ago in the 1990's. I did not care for it then, that opinion now, remains unchanged.

I think it was supposed to be a bland and silly comedy for whom? Well, that's the question isn't it, because I was 40 when I saw it and now in my maturity, hate it.

Why is that? Well, because because the script stinks and is so loaded with bland and absolutely worn out gimmicks and cliques.

The characters are not any worth liking and some sort of worthless. The script must have been written by a very beginning film author. It stunk.

Well, enough said. I was able to watch it only to the point where these old men begin telling each other about their boners. Click, whirred, rewind, lights out.

If you IQ is under 100 and your age under 15, this flick is for you,otherwise its a waste of time. One moment it turns sickenly family values and the next funny as hell. What was the purpose of those slick comic lines, maybe relief so what audience was still watching would stay in their seats.

On a science level this whole high tech Noah's Arc non-sensible flick was an F-. Neutrinos do not interact with matter much less cause a planet's core to melt.

This movie was intended as entertainment for the not very bright and the not very old. I'm sure they would rate it at least a 7.

The country and western music at the end which came way too late, tells what kind of audience the director was trying to reach.

And by the way, if the world ever did end we could not be building arks, we would be building small space capsules with encoded DNA records for the life now all extinct. Funny how the phones kept working and lights stayed on even as the world crumbled.

I brought this film home thinking it actually might be scary. No way, it basically a film about two living together people and their rolling around the house saying banal and very dumb things.

I suspect this format was to scare crap less people of high suggestibility and not very much sophistication.

Bingo, you have the teenage weenies just sitting on the edge of their seats holding the significant other of the moment and screaming.

It really trash and not worth even a rental.

However if you've nothing really to do or plan other activity including deep sleep, during this flick, it could be for you after all.

It did not scare me or my cat.

I read the first review and agree totally that if Rodger Ebert likes a film its trash and gosh and if the poor little man loathes it I'll probably like it. How such a smiley faced nothing for a brain could be a film critic amazes. Then this film also amazes.

It is not a real drama set in a real world. It is rather a dramatic telling of how humans control and exploit each other. Nobody does anything for anyone without being paid back.

The beginning of the film is a bit jumpy and I also turned off the screen, but wait, the real drama is yet to unfold.

This is certainly not a film for anyone,but a college educated person, because you will not comprehend its depth and its allegory.

See it and I can recommend it.

This is a film that can make you want to see it again. I especially, liked the way it ended. I did not see the end coming, but when Laws was not blown away the first time, one suspects he will be back again.

The story is gripping and could have been more psychological, but I understand the story needed to capture the viewer and the action was necessary for that.

Hard to believe Michael Jr. could be so apparently unmoved as his younger brother and mother as blown away. But, I can appreciate the scene play couldn't really take our attention there because it had a greater story to tell.

Some have complained about Hanks as a gangster. I believe that isn't justified. If his character had been any harder, he would not have cared if his son pulled a trigger or not.

Eight Stars for this one. Although it was released in 2002, I just saw it for the first time yesterday on DVD.

This film began with such promise and toward center somehow lost its momentum and started to preach.

The film had potential to move and defend without attempting to show how wrong rascism is. I ofcoure feel its wrong, but hardly needed a film like this to show me.

The drama should just have unfolded without the Neo Nazi suddenly getting religion. Why not let the pieces fall where they will.

It could have been a strong and powerful film, but turned into just another we want to show you why and please don't do this.

It struck an almost condescending and proselytizing level. That why I gave it a six. Good, but hardly great.

I should have given this odd film a negative number, but felt some of the camera work was first rate.

It was stupid, mawkish and nobody but the fool that wrote this horrid piece could ever figure out what its all about. I did however rise to the challenge. Its really about nothing.

So people sometimes suffer for being stupid. Is that the theme?

What does Mexico have to do with two foolish American tourists cavorting through Morroco? The saddest part was the innocent Shepard boy who was felled by the police.

I could feel neither compassion or sympathy for the American tourists. So, I do on occasion give flicks good ratings, but this one just left me wishing I'd not wasted my time watching.

Today there is the Hollywood trash pulp horse dumps. These usually attract the lower IQ crowd who are not that deep in age of intellect.

This film took a big risk. It was graphic, out of sequenced, not a lot of action and very stimulating.

The risks are this film may not be a big ticket seller. It could have not broken even for what it cost to produce. The film was very much worth seeing.

I have no needed to add anything about the plot as others have done that. The acting was first notch and the message clear. The dream and the reality often don't match. In certain instances the dream runs parallel with the addiction. The addiction wins and the dream dies.

Graphic, heady and not a film for everyone. My rating 10. I can't fault it anywhere. It accomplished its ends.

I bought this movie for 50 cents at a public library VHS sale. I had seen the film before a number of time, on TV, I think.

This is a classic piece for a number of reasons. First because it hardly takes itself seriously, with Cookie and Robbie making pure Saint Louie Burden.

Also the sex parts are such a farce that one has to break out out laughing. I'm glad I was able to add this classic 1956 Sc-Fi to my collectibles.

On a deeper level it appeals to our childish ideas about what our minds might be capable. Conjuring is as old as there has been witchcraft and black magic.

For the 1956 period the art and technical architecture is advanced even by some of today's standards.

I for one remain impressed also with the technical back drops in 2010, that appeared decades ago, in the flicks, Aliens and 2001.

Its a good laughable watch and a fine collectible.
