Transformers: Age of Extinction
(2014)

Don't watch this if you don't want to have a great time ;)
My friend and I sat perplexed,a hour or so into this movie, of the '6.1' rating of this movie on IMDb,and could only conclude, yet again, as so many movies before it,that trolls ( mostly )did their work yet again.

Movies are meant, most, to entertain us,and this does a wonderful job, all at PG-131!

What more do people expect ?

I love it when movies an entertain, as this one with incredible visual gymnastics and grab us for 2.5 hrs, not wanting to leave the TV for the entire time; this movie does that.

I know its another rehash of yet another transformer movie, but what does it need to do, to get a overall rating of more than 6.1 ????

Thats insulting to not only the actors who did a fine job here,to the myriad of digital artists , producers and animators and to some people who may avoid it due to the low score.

What rubbish.

I saw the RogerEbert website who indicated its a movie for a child because as adults we put aside those things ( assuming its a dig, or *sarc), and my friend after I showed him that , said well who cares!,,I still watch Mr Rodgers!! Thats what I call not being afraid,to be as a child, once more.

Does a movie have to do more than entertain and visually mesmerize us to get a decent overall rating ? Have some of you critics grown so beyond these kinds of movies that you thumb your nose at them as some backyard trash, forgetting to watch the 'credits' or view them here,to find that many great names in the production hall of fame are behind this ??

The one thing I freely admit, is it seemed in one spot to drag a tiny bit , but as soon as the ' I need a break' moment flutters past, the action picks up again and as any transformer movie has done for us, we want to root for the underdog and our imagination of the outcome is rewarded in high fashion, and our attention is drawn again in full force.

Just as this movie includes a line , ' humans think they are the center of the universe',so too do some 'criitcs' here and elsewhere, when they forget their childhood and go forth entirely in pessimistic mode and don't allow themselves to enjoy a utterly fabulous movie.

So what if its mostly action sequences some often so full of things and animations on screen that its sometimes hard to see what is going on, but guess what, in real life this could happen as well,- get over it ;)

This certainly was't star wars, but does it have to be, to have sat through it and had a wildly enjoyable ride ? ; of course not...

It does the job of transporting us to a universe that just could be true, someday,as our vistas to the universe open up and we realize, we really aren't alone anymore.

Thats the idea behind movies, to bring out that child, sometimes that may have been catapulted into adult life yet may still yearn for the wide eyed optimism and wonder we enjoyed as we grew up.

This move doesn't need a 'deep' plot, it just needs a plot we can relate to,dialog that maintains our attention, visuals that sweep us along, acting that merges with and becomes its subject and the viewer grabbing a hold for the ride and accepting that reality has just been hijacked temporarily , allowing us to go outside our sometimes humdrum life and enjoy 2.5 hrs of a fantasy roller coaster.

I enjoyed the harry pottery franchise with child like excitement as it drew us in with a deep plot, amazing visuals and meaning derived from a author for whom love and friendship meant a great deal, and it was conveyed with stunning authenticity .

We may not have a deep plot here, although as my friend said and I agreed, this one is the best one yet as it introduces us to a new villain from a surprising source, and ends in a way not unlike that other movie I have fondness for , as it reminds us, sure, for some, in cliché ways ( not those who remain the wide eyed child full of mystery and unconditional fondness) what matters most in life.

I don't see how anyone could expect more from a movie, to be entertained and touched in non superficial ways.

I know its 'transformers' yet again, but its different enough, and full of incredible visuals enough, to warrant seeing it with others or just yourself curled up to a couch and popcorn.

* highly recommended PG 13

Basic Instinct 2
(2006)

Watch the movie closer if you didn't get the 'ending'; great crime thriller!
First off, I did not see BI1, nor do I 'need' to, because either a movie movies me, or it does not. THis did, to the extent that I kept watching, though I was getting tired as it was after midnight.

When I saw the very LOW score of 4 or such from some reviewers here, and also saw that they didn't 'get' the ending, I knew I had to chime in immediately.

The ending , which I won't divulge, may not have the twisting involvement of a Sherlock Holmes, but it's intriguing enough to have made me wish for #3 to see about getting This scheming, cold , but brilliant writer her just rewards . That's how great of a job Sharon Stone did in this, and the supporting cast and crew while new to me, I felt did a completely adequate job of sinking my attention further and further into the tawdry, deceptive and thrilling plot's development.

When we talk about a thriller, we can't help but give respect to Alfred HitchCock's 'The Birds', and while BI2 did most certainly not rise to that occasion ( in part due to the content/script) and there was a lot to rise TO,- it most certainly brought it right to the BRINK of it, with great character allure and thought provoking twists and turns throughout it.

If you are looking for something to watch late at night and be on edge for those few hours, wondering if a murderer would go free, victims would be saved and who really did it and why, then this movie is certainly worth your time.

Prayers for Bobby
(2009)

Stirring piece of of tragedy and triumph
Prayers for Bobby is the portrayal of a gay youth whose turbulent adolescence is made more strenuous over his mothers ( Mary Griffith) insistence, that he pray his gay away. Good intentions sometimes have greatly sad consequences , and we shall explore that here briefly.

People often say , that religion has ruined our world, bringing unfair judgment, where instead GOD's/Jesus's message was one of unconditional love and forgiveness. Few issues stir people to rage/bewilderment like gay rights do, even among members of the same loving family, though in todays world we see a massive up swell in support for it, at least among certain demographics.

Prayers for Bobby advocates healing of a nation, where instead of offering the Bible forward as a healing mechanism and helpful media for gods loving instructive word, it often devolves into harsh judgment and mean spirited rhetoric which only serves to drive wedges and hate between people. That was not the Bibles intention, and serves as a wakeup call and embarrassment to our country that it was ever allowed to take place.

This movie gently introduces us to the Griffith family, where a mothers ( brilliantly played by Sigourney Weaver ) love and determination to keep her family together in life, and in eternity, has her struggling to 'cure' her son of his gay lifestyle.

What follows is a stark examination of a young gay sons need ( played eloquently by Ryan Kelley) to maintain the love of his family, yet remain true to his inner calling, and when that falls apart, tragedy ensues.

Sometimes great tragedy spurs us into inner reflection as a mechanism to deal with great grief, and this movie triumphantly showcases the positive good that can come of such endeavors.

Through great inner soul searching , Signourney's portrayal of a confused mother looking for answers for her sons eternal grace comes full circle as she seeks guidance from a gay friendly church and starts to lift the veil of consternation from her once thought impossible view of her gay son being okay with GOD.

So, out of tragedy comes a eye opening experience where Mary Griffith is able to channel her grief over losing her son ( and her entire family), into a positive outcome of healing, as she leans forward into being a advocate for gay rights and proudly wears the banner of equality for her son.

Highly Recommended for the intended audience, as an absorbing, educational and uplifting story of triumph over tragedy and the endearing lessons achievable for a ever growing society.

The Host
(2013)

Wonderful escapade into a fight for our Planet and ourselves
Stephanie Meyers puts her touches on another wonderful fantasy piece, taking us into the mind of a alien, as the entity 'takes over' the body of a young girl and attempts to obtain needed mental images and thoughts from her Host's experiences, to continue her species invasion and eventual complete take over of our Earth.

For most of us, life is but a daily grind, where we toil , for the often mere pittance we receive for it and the difficulties many of us face as a result of that and go on about our existence trying to enjoy life and our friends and family and help others in the process; make the world a better place than we found it,- but for the heroine in this film, it's far more than just that basic survival instinct in a gritty capitalistic society we are all part of, but indeed it's become survival of the most keen and important not just for her life, but the threatened life of the entire species we call human beings.

Interweaved with romantic relationships, family values of the protagonists and a mostly subtle but completely fascinating sci-fi look and feel from the aliens history to their technology, we get a complete picture of a threatened planet's survival hinging on the outcome of one brave girl as she fights back for family, friends and her planet.

A fascinating trip through the mind of Melanie, played by Saoirse Ronan , is a study of the fight for individualism and the attempt to rely on the better nature of our beings, from aliens who through the process , themselves, must fight to ignore feelings from their host.

Through that entire process we see the rationalization made from Stephanie Meyers's characters from another planet, that Earths beauty with it's plentiful resources is squandered by climate issues and violence among its citizens thereby issuing the question of who really deserves to 'preside over' it.

A good book makes you think about your life and the choices you make as they impact other elements, and through that storyline mixed with decent sci-fi visuals we find a very entertaining adventure about who we are as a species, what we have done with what we were given and what ultimately we could face in the form of threats from places in our universe , far far away.

I thoroughly enjoyed this foray into alien invasion, being gripped by it and hoping right alongside the entire cast of characters, that Earth survives this battle and takes with it a growing desire to heal not only our planet, but each other in the process.

If you like otherworld journeys laced with psychological meaning, decent story lines, great sci-fi visuals and mixed with thoughtful solid acting, then you should not avoid this one.

The Hunger Games
(2012)

Poignant, and often gruesome modern day Roman gladiators ,asking should we
In todays world , where classes divide people, we have middle income America, and on each end , the poor and the elite on the far end of the spectrum.

Often the two rarely meet or have much in common, but no one cares when you enter a fight for your life, and in this movie those that are vying for the right to life, are but mere children. If that notion scares you as a mother or a teen, this movie may not be for you . I personally think that while the movie doesn't leap to the level of 'saw' or similar types, its enough to have possibly warranted a R rating. I would certainly think twice about taking a teenager, because some scenes are extremely vivid.

That sad, while I went into the movie expecting horrific things, I admit to being overall impressed with the take away.

The harsh reality sets in as a opulent and lavishly dressed 'announcer' shouts names from a list of teens to be involved in a gruesome last-teen-standing duel. We are then presented with a short 'video' explaining why all this has come to pass , and that those involved in this 'battle' most violent, are there due to a treasonous event of their ancestors. A high price to pay for civil disobedience, though we aren't told the details of any of it.

You do not need details, when its rather clear why everyone is there and the cruelty about to unfold, and I suspect those details will be present in some 'sequel'.

As I sat watching, I was pleasantly surprised to see not just another gruesome violent fest, but real philosophies being presented; as in out of the mouthes of babes . These aren't all just willing participants, but in a few cases, reluctant, sometimes to the point of rebellion at great risk of bodily peril.

'Players' are thrust into a environment ( after coaching), not unlike the gladiators of ancient Rome. It's quite unsettling given the age group of the people involved, but it sets a proper tone for what is to come. The innocent of youth, thrust into the barbarity of war, and those 'in charge' with their opulence and extremes, poised over their materialism to the exclusion of the safety of those about to fight.

The movie includes not only great acting from a young new cast, but exciting visuals, exciting if not basic plot line and amazing visuals of a world seeming full of technology, yet some questionable morals.

To consider ones death yet remain true to their nature, as well as wishing a end to the sickness , where rooting for a victor , yet sadness when a entrant succombs, are expressed sentiments.

This is no pure gore fest, but do take care in taking those young adults who may need to wait a few years before seeing something so visually troublesome. Everyone else will see a movie that on the outset may seem gruesome and violent, yet inside containing questions of us all, in a sometimes world where injustice and elitism rule the day.

A decent see not for its violence, but the questions asked by the participants.

War Horse
(2011)

Triumphant showcase of bond between man and companion animal amidst the extremes of war
In full disclosure I must state out of the gate, that I wasn't looking forward to seeing this particular movie, given the feelings of loss I've experienced, so going into this movie carried some unsettling thoughts for me to say the least. Simply put, I've changed over the years, matured, become Vegan due to my love for animals , as my mother before me, and knew going in this was going to be a tear jerker for me, given I"d lost a very special canine months before to Epil-K9. He was a very special canine companion as many are to us, and hence leading into this review of War Horse, I will state one of the most poignant lines in the movie for me at least, was, ' It's a horse not a dog '.

War is pretty for no one, sometimes its a necessity at least at our current state of evolution, yet sometimes innocents are hurt. This is a story ,centering yes around a horse but its so much more than that. It encapsulates family values, firmly entrenched in pride , love and enduring faith in outcomes of triumph; A story about the casualties of war, through the lens of a companion animal, in this case a horse, whereby spins a tale of hard work, sacrifice , great struggle and triumph, leading the audience through a journey of emotions as swift and varying as is the struggle of men and women, and yes horses too, as fate weaves through their lives.

I've never seen war personally due mostly to my age, but age has no barrier to entry in this movie as relates to the heart it imparts to your soul, for showcasing the ravages war can extract; yet through hope , courage and enduring faith , the bond between man and animal made stronger .

Through wonderful acting, period backdrops and props and a stunning score , accompanied by a wonderful script based on a thought provoking book, we have a journey very worth embarking on .

War Horse won't break your heart,- it won't bring you to your knees enthralled by thunderous non stop action and special effects galore, but it will ask you to ponder two words as they relate to each other from the point of view of what really matters in life. Do we continue to engage the world from the lens of continued war and animal negligence , or do we follow a different path where man works together for common causes of hunger , technology and advancement, and treat other species whom share this planet with us with the same respect , as many religions teach us, that we ask and want for ourselves.

This is a movie that celebrates what is wonderful and right about the immutable bond between human and companion animal, and isn't afraid to showcase it in ways that make us contemplate doing better.

Clash of the Titans
(2010)

Entertaining flick about Greek mythology
Hearing about the movie, as relates to 'wrath of the titans', I decided to see this, and I'm glad I did. I went into it , expecting what I got; pure adrenaline and entertainment. If you go into it looking for precise mythological representation, you may be disappointed, but then aren't most people disappointed when they see a movie after reading the book, - and given the small time period for a movie, why are you ? ;) I knew this going in, I sat there looking for entertainment, as most of us do when we goto the movies, and was most certainly not disappointed. The acting seemed a tad stiff in places as if a given actor was trying to find a reason to be excited about their role, but that's a very small nit, as overall the acting is wonderful, by a stellar cast.

The plot is as you would expect from such a movie, as it does not delve too far into the mythos, yet gives you enough information, along with stunning visuals , to be clearly entertained for the entire 1.5 hours. The Greek mythos adage about gods not feeling loved enough is clear, is simple in its comprehension yet is great content for a action experience. I never felt like I wanted to leave the room, nor did anyone else. I remembered the original quite well, and while in some ways it was better than this remake, what's clear is the attempt to yet again, entertain and in that it achieved that quite well.

I do think the snarky comment about the poor metal owl, though honestly semi humorous, was I thought a bit misplaced and in a way slightly ruined the energy the movie had going up to that point. It's not even close to a deal breaker, but having seen the 1981 original at least twice, felt like the owl omission was unfortunate, but I do understand that they were concentrating on other plot points and do not fault them for that per se. The owl, for me at least, gave the movie a distinct feeling of empathy, as I, like I imagine many others, were rooting for the owl, as the stalwart companion. We all love our animal companions after all, which brings us further into a position of empathy as movie goers, yet no matter, as they more than make up for it in other respects.

I recommend seeing this if you liked the original, are okay with something unique regarding plot twists, and love special effects as they lend a hand to magical mythological portrayals.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1
(2011)

Unfolding story of learning about our place in the world
For many movies we see a lot of negative/positive comments, and that is to be expected in life, where few are the same, and uniqueness is rampant. When the plot involves love, something private for most of us , then it shouldn't be surprising to see often negative comments, about a otherwise wonderfully crafted movie both in terms of writing and acting , and everything in between.

I fell in love with the entire series from the beginning, not because its sappy teen love or contains amazing special effects/makeup art, but because of the story it conveys to the reader/movie goer. It's not a story about superficial love and having sex, its about the journey of getting somewhere fulfilling and non superficial; of self discovery In this fast paced world, sometimes we forget there is more to love than just the act itself, that it embraces the better part of ourselves, that has no relation to hot lights & pornography , that instead its a story unfolding of interpersonal relationships and the growing as human beings in the process.

I suspect like you, we am drawn to the charisma, the hope and the expectation that its going to have the proverbial 'happy ending'. Isn't that what most of us watch movies for honestly, to see some variation on that theme, and if we don't acquire it, hope that the movie contains some message about why ; because after all the happy ending isn't set in stone, and at least discovery, not always from ourselves can be a blessing in disguise as we all set out to discover who we are, and where we fit in in this sometimes fragile existence we call life.

That's in part what entertainment is all about, and this latest offering in the series, does not let down.

Melancholia
(2011)

Revealing, if not obfuscated depiction of parallel ends
I started to watch this movie, and thought it was one of the most confusing depictions of end of story scenarios, meets Psychosis, but then of course that would simplify the case; or would it ? ;) I enjoyed the story, as made evident by the end of the movie (?), as drawing a parallel between the end of the world and the ever so strange personal drama that unfolds between screen protagonists.

I'm all for a good mystery, but honestly I think ( I realize writer/director of film had a vision, don't we all ) that falls a bit flat, as are we really to believe that Kerstens character is so psychotic as to take her entire family to the alter only to make a mockery of it ( and her fathers gift) eventually ? I personally felt the dramatic personality shifts to be unbelievable to the point of absurd, but having said that, I do think it probably is a good thing to see unfold, because if anything it does bring to the forefront, the inherent problems associated with mental illness, in direct parallel to supposed 2012 theories and all they entail, Mayan or not.

I think this movie was stunning for such portrayal, but I wish they had tamed it down a bit for average movie goers, as while its quite dark in its portrayal of her psychosis, it seems to jump off many virtual cliffs in its stark depiction of mental illness to the point of ludicrousness. Are there any families in existence that are this dysfunctional; maybe so, I just don't know of any, nor have I ever met any, but I've been accused of leading a sheltered life by a few, and if so this would be a surprise learning experience.

I still think, that while the movie was stunning in its poignancy and visuals, that the audience could have been delivered to that point by a more cohesive core story devoid of individual moments lacking forward momentum. I felt lost in the beginning-middle'ish, and once meaning was clear, I almost felt the end was a tad anticlimactical, even if it was delivered in a very surreal powerful way and with emotional impact.

Zookeeper
(2011)

This is great family fun + loads of laughs for everyone
This is a family friendly movie that deserves to be seen, for its good acting from its great cast of actors, and ahem, the 'animal kingdom' .

Comedy is a plus here and we get it in spades from the very opening scene which sets the scene for the rest of the movie as it takes us for a 'ride' into laughter.

The CG in this movie depicted by the adorable animals, is first rate and helps set the immersive mood.

The poignant story moves the viewer from Zoo elation, to zoo care, and all the way back again as respect and admiration for our zany but adorable protagonist; all this encased in bright clever humor with style and depth, which makes you really feel for the characters and draws you into the plot.

If you like to laugh and who doesn't, - and enjoy decent family fun, then this is a winner.

Mars Needs Moms
(2011)

Don't listen to the 'moaners' who apparently can't stand Fun, clean movies
First off, I shall say right up front, that anyone who gave this movie a '1' out of 10 is insincere at the very least ( and needs to get a life) and at most here to defame a otherwise amazing movie with a cute message.

As the title suggests, Mars needs moms, and as the plot unfolds you will be drawn into the PG storyline, amidst clever character design, amazing mo-capped animation over the top of well done voice overs and amazing digital imagery. THis movie does not fail to delight, from beginning to end, so just ignore those grumpy reviewers who prob. had a bad day at the office. This is a feel good Disney family movie, not entirely unlike Wall-E in some ways.

Everyone , families included of course will LOVE this amazing feel good movie, sticking up for family values and the role 'moms' play in the household, but definitely Dad's get a major shout out too, so don't be fooled about the title . It is NOT sexist , no matter what anyone tells you. I'ts a fun visually stunning movie with tons of action and surprises, from the viewpoint of a Mars community, along with a interesting plot twist.

This movie never has a boring moment, and from the first digital frame to the last, you will laugh , cheer and cry a bit throughout, but near the end the happy ending graces your heart .

This is non stop fun for 'anyone' and it deserves to be seen.

Enjoy the Show ;)-|=

Planet 51
(2009)

Really cute, funny entertaining overall family movie
Hi fans,

I've read many reviews here and while no doubt inspired by their personal viewing habits, etc., I can't help but wonder where our current cultures attitude towards enjoyment has gone.

I am somewhere between crib and pulling one leg off banana peel and the other in the grave, and I thought this movie was way past amazing. It yes, had huge references to every movie you could imagine, but it was done so well with such class, that you wanted more. I do not understand the rejection to humor when its done so well, to the point your anticipation swells with every on screen pixel ;)

When did America get so jaded that our expectations became so large ? Sometimes its better to just close ones mind to nothing but fun, because in this case thats precisely what you get.

I totally get that some movies contain some bad acting; maybe the actors weren't into the part who knows, but in this case not so. It's a joy ride from beginning to end, although I think it barely holds onto its family rating in places. Those parts could have been left out, or remade with a bit more creativity towards the PG-13 side of things . I think we are continuing to push the boundaries of what is considered PG-13, and I'm not entirely happy about it. Where is it written that we need such visuals in a movie to keep peoples attention ? ;) Movies like 'The Forbidden Planet' come to mind. It even holds up well in this century.

The animation was wonderful, the conversation witty, dynamic and well acted and the plot was simple yes and fairly predictable, but definitely not without spontaneity.

I made a list of all the cute movie references I found, but I shall do it on my new movie website another time,so stay tuned.

Minus the few questionable scenes I found, its definitely one for family night, if you enjoy amazing cartoon visuals set in a sci-fi theme , very nicely voiced and packed with humor.

5,4,3,2,1....blastoff to laughter ;)

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
(2010)

If you like a good romance novel full of special effects action scenes laced with edge of your seat horror, your in for a treat
Hello movie going fans !

If you are considering seeing this movie, look no further than this incredible review :

Great , and expected continuation from last movie; no surprises there and also zero letdowns, as we see the plot unfold and the love triangle evolve very nicely, with a moving and mature moment near the end between script protagonists. Great acting with evolved actors and characters. Great special effects as you can imagine and this one continues to entertain without fail. A romantic action enhanced thrill ride you won't want to miss having seen last 2 movies, and if you are new to the series, make sure you catch up before seeing this one as you wont be disappointed since there is something here for everyone.

I continue to be exceptionally appreciative of overall toned down horror visuals that otherwise could have been extreme and it reminds me a lot of Hitchcocks: 'the birds' which was also rated PG yet easily maintains that 'edge of your seat' theater without resorting to effects that insult the viewers intelligence. It proves we don't need over-the-top-gore to create incredible movie experiences.

I love Jacob's character, regardless that they are all enthralling and I was hoping she would choose him honestly , because I would personally rather see her stay human at the end of this very rich plot, and if you are like me having not read the books, we shall just have to wait to see how things unfold in the last entry in the series.

Highly recommended family viewing for morals portrayed , keeping in mind youngsters because the movie does earn its PG rating although with great class.

Grab your favorite movie going companion and off you go! ;)

The Twilight Saga: New Moon
(2009)

Good movies don't have to always be about unending violence
I find it not only disturbing , utterly fascinating ( in a very bad way) and completely without logic that someone would complain , - and often with little or no indication of education based on use of grammar and foul language, that they didn't like a movie regardless of its thoughtfulness and amazing set direction, lighting , mood , great characters/acting, stunning action sequences, special effects and amazing storyline and set locations just because they are jealous that a romantic romp through the lives of two torn individuals manages to triumph in the end through seeming unachievable challenges somehow messes with their preset ideologies that movies must be only about gratuitous unending pulse-pounding violence and similarly shallow plots.

The rest of us loved the movie because it showed commitment to another person, the better part of ourselves doing something we may not like, but that its the right thing to do and is the encapsulation of love in all its glory. The heroine understood the consequences, but accepted the reality of it based on faith in love and her ability , - with love in tow to rise above the murky dark facade that for a time alluded the struggle for happiness. No one in their right mind would suggest this is appropriate under all circumstances ( this could be very dangerous to try at home HM ) and we surely accept that along with our agility to sail through life with lessons learned under our belts and the better person we become for it, that some of us will grab a certain gusto of life possibly wrought with some degree of peril, not because our brains are hardwired for high risk at any cost, but because we are hardwired to want to love and be loved.

This is not just a movie for teenage girls as some have provocatively and incorrectly suggested, but for any couple or any person yearning to see something clean and viscerally elegant because it speaks to our heart.

If you don't get that then maybe you should consider some introspection, and look at the man(or woman) in the mirror, because the rest of us appreciate and admire a broad sweeping emotional love story because it just feels good when love triumphs in the face of possible adversity or learns some valuable lesson ; - our sail truly then set for success, running ( slight pun , slightly unintentional ) as a solid framework for the rest of our lives.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
(2009)

Excellent movie considering the source material.
After having seen this film, right after watching transformers latest movie, I am appalled to see critics here with their noses in the air, and obviously drowning in their own misplaced lack of objectivity.

I've seen far too many reviews here suggesting there was no plot , bad acting ad nauseam, but honestly I think its jealousy from not having gotten the part(s), because the only bad acting I see so far is insincere outrage from expectations in the negative.

How much more of a plot do you need anyway , what movie did it for you and what comparisons are you drawing between the two ? THe effects were incredible and the pacing was never without thrills and they did it all without resorting to over the top boring , unnecessary and undesireable plot stealing gore; so if you didn't like this movie then don't blame the movie, or even high expectations but instead maybe your confusion came from trying to watch the movie and having your thoughts betray you with visions of that last bad tomatoes experience .

I've seen the scores from this and transformers2 and many other movies that were otherwise great in many ways, but overall scores held down very likely by people that would never have gone to see the movie to begin with and just wanted to come find fault and minimize, so at the end of the day I say don't go into a movie without knowing something about what you'll be seeing and be honest with that expectation and instead of expecting the movie to necessarily 'obey' the law of physics accept it for what it is. It's a movie , where you are supposed to be whisked away to a fantasy realm ( unless based purely on fact ) where the idea is to have some fun, dream, and maybe discover inspiration to make this a better place for everyone.

I thought about the score initially, and while I wasn't completely happy about some acting honestly, overall I could not hold this movie down on that one small flaw because it delivered on its intentions of drawing us into a fantasy world where bad people do bad things, good people becomes heroes, and at the end , life was renewed by two people who didn't give up on each other and all was becoming right with the world again.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
(2007)

disgusting and without merit:do not see this mess.
If a movie is based on a true story, I give leniency to the content of course as long as the rating is accurate, but this one of course being fictional is just ridiculously over the top gruesome.

I realize, as some have noted, that the blood is SO Hollywood , that it does descend into a a 'D rated movie effects budget' scenario, but still not even the brilliant acting of Depp and his cohort can pull off such a disgusting display of violence.

I enjoyed the first half hour or so of the movie or so, as while it was clear the character was disturbed for reasons of sad injustice done to him, it does in no way defend the gratuitous use of violence and blood when its clear more impact ( and done in a way to allow it to retain a PG rating , and get more of a poignant point across ) from a musical point of view could have been achieved, along with the movies amazing use of mood.

I really wanted to give a rating of at least 2, but even given a outstanding amount of acting in this film, I feel it was wasted 100% on nothing more than appealing to people who either want to scare their girlfriends, themselves or just sick people in general.

Alfred Hitchcock did amazing things with the birds, and while it did yes contain some shocking scenes, it was at least within the realm of possibilities, while this film makes a point to avoid rationality and just go purely for the shock value to try to appeal as noted before, to a certain audience; shame on burton and depp.

It's definitely not worth buying, but if you don't mind renting it and wasting $8~ ( for a movie thats only worth the first half hour or so ) that is fine as its a decent movie right up until the gratuitous slashing starts.

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
(1986)

amazing movie, and I think the best one.
This movies exemplifies not only the virtues as a society we need to embrace ( moving to non-monetary society, and protecting animals, instead of exploiting them ) , but it also enlists comedy to help drive home the point that our society is headed in the wrong direction.

This is the one movie that I would refer friends and first time trek fans ( any non trek fans left ? ) to as it embraces everything that 'starfleet' stands for, and in the real world that is a good thing.

When we live in a world where basic needs of health and happiness are met [ we all need to adjust ], and teach our children to respect animals not hunt them, as only then will we find our true humanity, the one path God set us on in the beginning, and I think this movie does a wonderful job of illustrating that with just a touch of humor thrown in for humility .

This movie encapsulates everything a passionate society stands for as it allows us to embrace the Heartseed , a non-violent coexistent stance with our world.
