De verloedering van de Swieps
(1967)

a curiosity
No comments listed up to now and only 1.8 points out of ten.... that's just not right. My friend bought this in the 'videos very much on sale' section of the shop. She noticed Ramses Shaffy has a part in the film and being one of his fans, she couldn't resist it. De verloedering - degenerate, corruption - of the Swieps is caused by Shaffy's character Manuel. Both Mr and Mrs Swiep are under his influence and degenerate they do. Ramses Shaffy is the star of this movie, he more or less plays himself, an attractive, 'ravissante' personality. But the actor that portrays Mr Swiep, the rather unknown (to me...) Wies Andersen, should be mentioned, he gives a fine performance. Watch it and be surprised. No masterpiece, but I'd say five out of ten, for Shaffy, Andersen and the historical 1960's pictures. Image an office with ashtrays on every desk!

Zwei Girls vom roten Stern
(1966)

silly film, but still fun to watch.
This movie was once broadcast on German TV - at a very late hour - and since one of my favourite actresses, Lilli Palmer, appears in it I decided to tape it. I'm so glad I did! Overall it's a pretty silly film, the story is certainly no masterpiece but I really enjoyed all the typical 1960's views. The buildings, the cars, the card system that picks Olga and Anja as the perfect couple to deal with the problem. The slapstick comedy group looks as if they're somewhere dragged in, but this is a minor case of Europudding so who cares. A funny film in my view, perhaps not in the way the makers meant it to be, but I had fun watching it albeit over thirty years after production. That probably helped too. Seven points out of ten, but... that's my personal opinion!

Galaxy Quest
(1999)

The perfect parody
I used to loath science fiction series. The silly make-up and cardboard sets just made me laugh. Until my friend pointed out that some of these silly programs handled some serious themes: being an outcast, not being able to feel as other people do. Star trek then became one of my favourites. Almost every episode a very human theme was tackled and I grew to like it. Therefore, when I watched Galaxy Quest on TV I had loads of fun and laughed out loud several times. It is based upon reality, there seem to be Trekkie meetings and fan-meetings everywhere. It is just the perfect parody. All the actors are perfectly cast, in my opinion. I never liked miss Weaver a lot, but here she gives a good performance. Mr Alan Rickman is wonderful, mysterious and handsome whatever he does and this film is no exception, even when he is wearing a silly plastic hairdo all the time Very funny, a good laugh, I suppose one has to know Star Trek to fully appreciate it, but even when you've never heard of captain Picard you'll like it.

Mädchen in Uniform
(1958)

very interesting
'It's a Romy Schneider film!', my mum said happily when she read the announcement in her TV guide. It is indeed, but I didn't quite dare inform my mum of the contents, seeing as she knew Romy only by the Sissi films. I love this film. I immediately fell in love with Lilli Palmer. Perhaps not as important or shocking as the 1931 version (yes, I have seen it) but still an interesting film. I especially like the outdoors shots in this film. The scene where Fräulein Von Bernburg gives Manuela one of her own shirts is lovely. I understood Romy Schneider was attempting to lose her Sissi image at the time. She succeeded in my opinion. My mum was somewhat surprised after watching it, but in the end she decided she liked it after all. So do I. Seven points out of ten.
