The Last Days on Mars
(2013)

Loved it!! If you like the Alien franchise and horror you'll like this
The creative team was obviously heavily influenced by Alien, Aliens, Prometheus and several other horror flicks. This was a good movie!! Good scifi and totally fun! Shot beautifully, good score, great acting, nothing looks cheap or B movie. Kind of looks visually like a cross between The Martian and Alien, it was much better than others in this genre. And it didn't take itself too seriously. There was no dialogue that had me rolling me eyes or anything like that, the script was tight and it was well directed. Very tense in spots , aided by the handheld camera. Definitely worth a watch and so much better than a lot of what's out there!

Firecracker
(2024)

Impressive debut from Mr. Potts
Shot beautifully, story works well, great casting and solidly directed. Andrew Lee Potts's feature directing debut Firecracker is impressive to say the least. The script is tight and the A level talent helps move the story along. Great performances all around which is extra impressive given Mr. Potts also directed himself! Firecracker is a great contained story, an example to filmmakers everywhere that you can make a great film on a lower budget if the script is good and you have top tier talent all around to work with. Firecracker was a great watch and I highly recommend it. From across the pond!!

Dark Harvest
(2023)

Stylized folk horror scores high!
I happened to see this on iTunes while browsing for a rental. I enjoy creature features and thought this would be a fun B movie. This is no B movie. Acting is solid all around, it's shot beautifully and it was so entertaining. It's definitely more like an A movie. Those who enjoy cult vibes and small creepy town stories as well as 80s horror movies will enjoy this as well fans of creature features.

This is a really fun ride that checked all boxes.

I highly recommend it. It's based off of a book I discovered which I just ordered so I can read it.

The movie itself is set in the 1960s around Halloween. It's atmospheric and fun with a great backstory and mythology already laid out. Ok this is a bad analogy but a little like a cross between Don't Worry Darling and Jeepers Creepers in terms of tone? Super fun. I'm actually going to buy it I enjoyed it so much!!

This was pretty fun!
This was a pretty fun movie gotta say. Ok so the general premise is kind of far fetched but if you want to just sit back and enjoy something fun than I thought this was pretty good.

Sign me up for anything with dinosaurs. Adam Driver was great as usual and I thought it was pretty good. So I have another 300 characters to go.

Anyway just saying this is a pretty fun movie and I thought towards the end it was pretty clever to have the asteroid hurtling towards earth. Because of course!

Anyway if you want something not too serious but adventure and fun then definitely check this movie out! It's fun!

Why was this cancelled?
Gotta say I really enjoyed this. So the ending isn't great. So what? The rest is. I'm on a second time thru rewatch. If you like culty stuff like the wicker man you will like this. I thought it was a great mix of horror, suspense, thriller etc. The cinematography was great and all the performances strong most notably the lead actor. Definitely give this a shot if you like paranoid, solitary thrillers with cult/supernatural influences. It's a lot of fun and well worth a watch. I have no idea why it was cancelled. The ending was pretty out there and I thought it would have been much scarier to make the cult more of the thing instead of time but that's my opinion. I hope against hope they do a second season.

Troll
(2022)

If you like 90s creature action movies you'll love this
This is one of the most fun movies I've seen in a long time. The writer and director obviously loved Godzilla with Matthew Broderick and Jurassic Park. The score was really good too. Keep watching thru the credits.

I really enjoyed this movie. If you just want a bit of fun that doesn't take itself too seriously I would watch this. I am looking forward to a sequel? Maybe? All the actors were really good too, even with a fun story they were giving their all, and I liked the cameo from Bill Campbell. He is billed with the same last name as his Rocketeer character, Cliff Secord. If you grew up seeing 90s movies definitely check this out!!

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
(2018)

I wanted to like this
It's sort of like Jurassic Park meets The Freshman. Why WHY did you have to leave the brachiosaurus behind? It upset me so much I nearly couldn't finish the movie. She should have got off the island. That was terrible.

The Essex Serpent
(2022)

Loved it
I really enjoyed this period mystery/romance/drama. I thought the pacing was really good, all the performances were rock solid and if you like period horror/thriller (though I would say this is more of a drama), you will enjoy this. Atmospheric to the extreme and beautifully shot. I'm so glad Claire Danes is working she is simply fantastic and she pulls off a convincing British accent. The gentlemen are wonderful too. Very enjoyable story.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore
(2022)

Couldn't watch after first five or so minutes
I was shocked and saddened to see the animal abuse shown in the first five minutes. I'm not sure why this has to start so dark. It was disappointing and so unnecessary. Perhaps that's how the book goes but it was quite graphic. I can't do any animal cruelty, fictional or otherwise. If you have sensitive children or are, like me, a sensitive adult Id stay away.

Ghost Story
(1981)

Still a good scare!
Wow. This is a scary film. It's nice to see something without cg that is truly terrifying. Couple of moments of not great green screen but definitely stick with it. This movie is very scary and done so well! And Alice Kriege is soooo fantastically creepy! Love Fred Astaire. I am going to track down the book now. Loved this!

Uncharted
(2022)

Such a fun movie!!
I hope they make another. I really enjoyed this movie. Sometimes you just need a good old adventure. If you're unfamiliar with the game this movie is sort of on the order of National Treasure.

The Power of the Dog
(2021)

What did I just watch?
Hey I'm all for slow burn drama/thrillers but my God this is slow! And sadly Benedict (one of my faves) is miscast. Very hard to believe he is a cowboy despite his usual fantastic acting. All the acting was great but couldn't save this lack of a story. This was so boring that I don't even really know what happened at the end because I was so checked out. Also it was so dark, obviously to make it "gritty" but maybe then don't shoot in 4K/8k because it was preternaturally crisp.

Here Before
(2021)

So slow
I generally love slow, tension-ratcheting thrillers. This is too slow. And boring. And I lost interest and then came back and still nothing had happened.

American Auto
(2021)

Ignore the reviews...very funny
It gets funnier as it goes along. Definitely give this shoe a chance. Episode 6 is so funny! Great performances all around and the writing is sharp.

We will definitely keep tuning in to American Auto.

Red Notice
(2021)

So fun! Everything you could want in a film
It's nice to forget when the world is crumbling. Most of the time I don't want to watch some heavy serious show or film. If you like Indiana Jones, True Lies, National Treasure, James Bond and heist movies you'll love this! We had such a great time! It's a comedy/adventure movie and really well done! Give it a shot!

Emily in Paris
(2020)

Exactly what I needed
Fun. Light. Exactly what I needed to forget about the pandemic. I love the clothes and I hope she ends up with you know who. I hope they do a bunch more seasons!

The Cutting Edge
(1992)

This is such an awesome movie!
I loved this movie when it came out and I still love it! It's got so much heart! It's funny, dramatic, heartfelt. It's just really so well done. Moira and DB are fantastic!

The Beast
(1996)

So fun
Ok so this a TV movie from the 90s but I was thoroughly entertained. True now we have CG but it's great to see this practical stuff. Looooove this film and would highly recommend if you like jaws or 20,000 leagues.

In the Earth
(2021)

If only directors understood not everyone can watch strobe lights for 20 minutes or longer
Why.

Some of us have problems with strobe lights and it's completely unnecessary. And for SO MUCH OF THE FILM. This movie needed to move way faster. Cool premise. Cool ideas. Good actors. Too slow and trying to be weird for weirds sake.

Urban Legends: Final Cut
(2000)

Loved it. And thought it was better than the first.
I don't know if it's the locations or what but I loved it more than the first. Very fun to watch these early 2000s movies now. Give this movie a shot it's a lot of fun!

Shookum Hills
(2021)

I liked it!
I definitely think this team has seen the descent, aliens, my bloody valentine, deep rising, as above so below, Chernobyl diaries and some other fun monster horror films. I dug it. I think the dialogue could be better in some parts also and some parts were kind of weird but I think they did a great job with what they showed and how they showed it. Totally right up my alley and much better than a lot of things I've rented on iTunes. Totally worth a watch!!

Free Dance
(2016)

Didnt want to but totally loved it
So ok there were some random dance scenes and "playing instrument" scenes that should have been left out because they were too cheesy but if you like center stage I think you'll like this. Much better than the first high strung in my opinion. All of the dancing actors are actually good actors too. I really liked the show within the movie. The music was great and choreography felt new and fresh. I really liked this movie. Definitely give it a chance.

The Empty Man
(2020)

I liked it!
Yes it seems like too many stories in one movie. But I loved the creepy atmospheric nature of this film. This might have worked better as a film and then a sequel. The locations were awesome and it was shot well. The actors were all talented. I definitely wasn't bored. Some truly creepy moments.

The Woman in Black
(2012)

Loved this movie!
This is one of my favorite horror movies. I've seen the 1980s one and I think this by far beats it. I've seen it about 6-7 times and it still scares me. Atmospheric, beautifully filmed, great score from Marco and Daniel Radcliffe impressed me. Ciaran Hinds is always fantastic. Absolutely love this movie and can't figure out the poor reviews.

47 Meters Down: Uncaged
(2019)

Fun movie!
I liked this so much better than the first one. The underwater temple set was so cool. I just really enjoyed this movie. If you want a fun creature feature sort of like the descent but underwater (ish) I highly recommend this. I don't understand the terrible reviews. This was a super enjoyable watch!
