Pranamam
(1986)

An excellent movie
Truly a Bharathan classic. A movie that changes its face several times throughout the course of the 2.5 hours.

Mammootty as the police, steals the show. It has to be one of his best performance as a police. Suhasini, the central character, lives upto the character with a touching acting. The others also are well casted.

The dialogues and songs of the movie deserve special mention. The well detailed script, makes watching the movie a joy.

The camera department did a pretty neat job, especially in the long shots involving fights, protests, etc.

Mainly a standing ovation to the director for this great film.

Marupuram
(1990)

A crime thriller
Saw the film because it was scripted by Ranjith.

It should be one of the best crime thrillers of the golden period of Malayalam films, but the director has spoiled a bit with some unnecessary drama and long fight sequences. The cast was brilliant, especially Sukumaran and Jagathy. Jayaram, Mukesh and Urvashi did their parts well.

The script is the highlight of the story. It adopts a new narrative pattern where the story which is absent till about half of the film, gets too complex towards the middle of second half and finally is unraveled in a thrilling way.

The camera work was average, but included some experimental shots.

Overall, its a movie that could have been much better had it been directed cunningly.

Good plot, but tiring for new-gen people
The movie promises to be a good one, with a good plot and a nice beginning which I never expected. (It was one of the first black&white Malayalam film I was seeing)

But towards the end, it actually makes you really tired with unnecessary length and predictable to the core scenes shot as if they were things no one would ever imagine. Maybe no one did at the time this movie actually released. But for me, who have watched many films(maybe inspired or copied from these), all those felt like ultimate cliché.

The acting was loud, which was more or less expected, but I must say even then, Prem Nazir did a wonderful job. His expressions at times were classic. The fight scenes were hilarious and unnecessarily long. The songs were OK, but came up at totally unnecessary parts of the film.

Overall, its a watchable film. If you manage to sit through some really testy phases, you won't be disappointed at the end.
