This is one case where I wished Perry's client would have been convicted. I love Raymond Burr and Perry Mason, but these 1950's women are irritating. I grew up in the 50's and know how horrible it was for unwed mothers. Everybody commented about how awful the murder victim was and she was no peach, but I could gladly see Perry's client walk the green mile. Perry's client is so stupid she confesses to a murder she didn't commit. She's such a loyal employee, she made this viewer gag. Even so, I recommend this episode as good viewing. I love to see Ethel's (Vivian Vance) husband in these roles. He's never likable. Ruta Lee is also attractive and good, but did she have to be so dumb? Better than most programs on today even with the women's roles being so dated.

Would have liked this episode if the client hadn't been so tiresome and irritating. I had thought Perry's client who was the probation officer that rushed to the aid of his old girlfriend was my least favorite, or Noah Berry acting as the hick husband were worse,Oh, there are so many unlikeable clients. Ms McCargo plays a hysterical, whining rich woman who is so stupid, who would care if she's framed for murder? Her character has to be really irritating if I give a one star to a Raymond Burr show. I know strong, confident women were rare in those old shows, with Della as the exception. Honey West was an exception, too, but that's another show

Can't believe I'm giving the original Perry Mason a one star rating, but this episode deserves it or less. Perry has had some unlikeable clients but this woman from Tennessee takes the cake. Her accent is ridiculous more hillbilly than the Beverly Hillbillies and she's stupid. I disliked her so much, I wanted her to be convicted, sorry, Perry. When Perry has a decent client, there is no show better, but this episode is watchable only because it is Perry Mason. Gary Crosby is not bad though and I usually find him irritating. Catwoman, Lee Meriwether and Major West from Lost In Space are also in this. Got to say Major West's southern accent is also one of the worse I've ever heard and I'm Southern myself. Watch this only if you love Raymond Burr, Della, Paul and the others as I do.

I watched this soap every day when originally aired. Still remember how mad Angelique made me. Now thanks to Netflix I can watch it again. Too bad I can't get my teenage niece to watch, she won't watch anything in black and white. Now I'm addicted to 2 vampire shows, this and True Blood. True Blood is of course more modern and sexy and has the sexiest vampire ever to my mind, Bill Compton. I'm hoping that show will end like Dark Shadows, Spoiler and Bill will become human and stay with Sookie forever. Barnabus was not handsome but was still appealing in that he was a tragic figure, who didn't want to be a vampire and so had a likability about him similar to Bill.

Okay I'm old and can remember the original Dark Shadows. The Gates is similar in that it has a wicked blond witch. Dark Shadows had the beautiful Angelique who Devon really looks a lot like and their level of evil seems about the same. The main vampire in Dark Shadows was certainly not handsome but was a sympathetic character who did not want to be a vampire and spent most of the show's run trying to find a cure. Dylan is a very likable vampire, not as hot as Bill Compton but okay. I love Claire his wife. The only character I dislike is the Chief's wife. Anyway I would like to see this series return, there are so many different story lines possible and the season finale certainly contained many possibilities for next season.

This movie was watchable mainly for the stars. I love Raymond Burr but don't think it was this role that got him Perry Mason, I think it was the DA in A Place in the Sun. Burr's whacking that rowboat was outstanding. Raymond Burr was a great Perry Mason but not a romantic actor. Just watch his attempted rape scene in the Blue Gardenia. He didn't seem to really want to have contact with Anne Baxter. He was no Rock Hudson in that area, but I still think he was wonderful. Raymond Angela and the always good John Dehner are the reasons to watch this movie and the nostalgia effect if you watched a lot of TV in the 50's as I did. I agree the story line is unbelievable but I'm glad this movie is still available. I watched it on Roku.
