The Last New Year (2009)
Memorable film - great directing, acting and music. I look for more from this director.
Beautiful photography, well composed shots. Interesting characters - no clichés here. The story of long-time friends dealing with the disappearance of one of the group. The intrigue of what went wrong.
My favorite characters were 1. the "bad boy' who did everything to alienate everyone else. He also described the missing one as his best friend. And 2. the newcomer to the group which over the years would not allow anyone new. This one slipped in because his sister was not coming and he lost a bet to her. Younger, idealistic he is a good counterbalance to the older, more jaded characters.
This is really quite a remarkable movie. Many who see it say they are still thinking about it the next day. It comes to my mind often. Highly recommend it.
