Jaane Jaan
(2023)

Fast paced thriller. Too many plot holes.
Kareena 's character Maya is an ex-stripper sold into the stripping profession by her abusive policeman husband Ajith. The movie opens with Maya living in Kalimpong 13 years after running away from Ajith, with her daughter. Her next door neighbor, Naren, in Kalimpong is a Math teacher nerd who secretly crushes on Maya.

One day Ajith shows up out of the blue and threatens to take Maya 's daughter and turn her into a stripper. Maya kills Ajith. Naren hears the commotion through a hole in their common wall and offers to dispose of the body.

Since Maya has no alibi for the day of the murder, Naren helps he concoct an alibi for the next day and kills a homeless man the day after the murder, and burns his body to make him unrecognizable. Since he does this the next day, the forensic pathologist predicts day of death as one day after the actual murder. Maya has an alibi and the inspector on the case is unable to pin this on her.

All this build up is done very well with great acting. But great acting cannot make up the gaping holes in the plot, which are

1) How did Naren dispose of Ajith's body? We wait till the end, but this is never shown.

2) The inspector shows up at the diner where Maya works. Later he shows up at Maya's daughter's school because Ajith had mentioned he would be going there. The inspector sees Maya there and immediately decides she has a connection to the case. Why? At the time he knows nothing of her. Rather than assume it is a local woman, that is picking up her daughter from the local school, he immediately jumps to the conclusion that she is related to the case and starts spying on her. Just because he ran into her that morning?

3) Maya acts all guarded and serious. But one evening with the inspector at a Karaoke bar and she drops all her seriousness and starts dancing with him! Seriously? This is the guy who could ruin your life!

Nice acting, nice storyline but far too many plot holes.

The Call of the Wild
(2020)

Heartwarming story that is meant to be seen on the big screen
Amazing scenery and acting. As an animal lover, Iam so glad that the producers opted for a CGI dog. Buck, a spoiled dog is taken from his owners and sent to Yukon. He suffers initially before being taken as a dog in mail delivery sled. There are some spectacular scenes during Buck's time as a maildog that you do not want to miss! The rest of the movie is about how Buck finds love again and finally lives the life he is meant to be.

Harrison Ford's acting is wonderful. But truly the scene stealers are the spectacular scenery and Buck himself. Buck's expressions and body language are exactly what you would see in a real dog. The story is told beautifully. There is a slight deviation from the book, for certain scenes, that would not be politically correct in today's world. But as someone who loved the book as a child, this movie is everything I imagined Buck's world to be as I was reading his story.

Do not miss this movie for anything! It is one of those movies that is absolutely meant to be seen on the big screen.

Mitt
(2014)

I really got to liking Mitt after watching this...
I followed the 2012 elections avidly, but failed to get a sense of what Mitt was all about. They really should have released this movie at the time of elections. It may have made a difference to some voters. Mitt comes across as genuinely likable, funny, friendly and analytical. Had he been elected he would probably have seen himself as the CEO of America.

But he also comes across as politically naive especially when him and the family are talking about John McCain. Ann Romney constantly looks at the camera and one gets the feeling that all her actions before the camera are part of a show she is putting on. The only scene where she seems genuinely relaxed and at ease is when she is with her horses.

Some scenes like the one where his son gets slapped are appalling. I would very much have liked to see the thought process that went behind Mitt's picking of a vice presidential candidate.

The family comes across as clannish and loyal but that is probably to be expected in such a hotly contested race.

It's really hard to reconcile this image of Mitt with that of the man driving 650 miles with his sick dog on top of the car in freezing weather.
