Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker
(2019)

Messy, messy, messy
What a hot mess express this movie is. There were some cool scenes but it was all over the shop. The script was atrocious and Fin's character arc just kind of...faded away? It felt like there were too many cooks in the kitchen but like...it's also a good time too? I mean Star Wars has always been taken too seriously by its fans anyway, so if you go on with the attitude of just accepting what's about to be thrown at you, however ridiculous...you'll have a good time.

Charlie's Angels
(2019)

Not that bad!
I saw how low this was rated and went into it with low expectations and it was actually alright. I don't want to generalize but if you look at the ratings, it seems to be males that are down rating it and I mean...it's definitely a film for the ladies so...

It didn't take itself to seriously, so that probably helped. It had all the ingredients of a typical spy movie. Endless foreign travel, explosions, bad/unrealistic fight scenes, excellent/excessive wig usage, catchy soundtrack, bad script. A good time.

Mary Poppins Returns
(2018)

Came out smiling from ear to ear!
I'm seeing a lot of criticism of this film (most of which I think is pretty unfair) but I had a great time! Emily Blunt was outstanding. She plays Mary a lot closer to the books than Julie did but she also adds some slight hints of vulnerbability (a few times Mary has tears in her eyes). I don't believe anyone could've done a better job (aside from Julie). Lin-Manuel Miranda looks thrilled to be there and that's fun! His accent is dodgy but hey, so was Dick Van Dyck's. The set is beautiful and the colours are amazing. The songs are really catchy! I went home and immediately downloaded the album. There's a fantastic Vaudeville song that I couldn't get enough of!

Is it better than the original? No. Is it a good film? Yes. It's about 50/50 remake (in that it follows the same structure are the first) and sequel.

I'm a MASSIVE Julie Andrews and original Mary Poppins film fan and I thoroughly enjoyed it! At the end of the day, it's just a film and it'll make you smile :)

Aquaman
(2018)

I had high hopes but....yeah
This review is coming from someone who likes superhero films but I'll admit, aside from Wonder Woman and Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, DC films are not my fave. ANYWAY:

I cannot believe this has such a high rating? What on earth are people getting from this? The dialogue was TERRIBLE. The acting was also TERRIBLE. It couldn't pick a genre. Was it a comedy? Was it a soap opera? Was it a policital piece on pollution of the seas? Was it Star Wars? (did they really need all that tech??) Was it Avatar? WHO CAN TELL.

It was honestly all over the shop. I felt like each scene had a different director who was just going to completely disregard what everyone else has done before them.

Positives: the underwater CGI was magnificent. Like, really beautiful. Jason Mamoa is charming. I'll give him that. The female lead didn't need saving once and didn't spend the entire movie screaming, so that was refreshing!

Negatives: literally everything else.

At this point, Wonder Woman is carrying the entire DCEU on her shoulders (in my opinion).

Nailed It!
(2018)

Great show, terrible host.
I watched this all in one sitting and laughed A LOT but geez the host. What is going on here? They've got her trying wayyyy too hard. Simmer down about 5 notches and we've got a winner here.
