Awaken
(2018)

Absolutely astonishing
How can anybody give this movie any other review than 10 or maybe 9? The low score can only be explained by wrong expectations, maybe it was shown somewhere where people were expecting to see a normal movie. This is my favorite genre of art and it is quite rare to see it made in to a spectacle like this. It is awe inspiring, soul clensing, meditative and most of all hopefully spiritual for all mankind. It's like a religious experience, and each viewing is an event, a spiritual orgasm. Only Ron Fricke has previously accomplished this sort of monumental epics, and now we have another. I love you Tom Lowe you are a god of sense and wonder. Please do not be discouraged by the IMDb rating, you have a following. Please. Give us more wonder, our hearts are famished!

Crashing
(2017)

The best show about standup comedy
First there was Seinfeld, then Louie, then Maron and finally Crashing. Where each of these shows is about how a comedian gets his material, Crashing actually dives in to the grind of it like no other. Very refreshing take on the subject, and highly recommended. One of the best comedy shows ever.

The Matrix Resurrections
(2021)

Every second was really hard to watch, no joke
I've had it with these pointless soft reboots. It's like Terminator Genisys crossed with A Good Day to Die Hard (in terms of sequel style), except way, way worse. It thoroughly destroys the entire Matrix legacy, so efficiently in fact that it seems like a parody that is trying to do exactly that. It has no soul, no point, no logic, nothing. I even hated every single action sequence. It was so repulsive I had to look at memes on half a screen to lessen the pain enough to finish the film. Turns out there wasn't a single enjoyable second there to find, yet I still feel brave for having watched it all the way, making it the single worst movie I've ever finished. Easily the greatest disappointment in film history. Therefore this movie is an inspiration for fan made Matrix short films and reloaded/revolutions edits. Only watch this film if you're being paid good money to do so.

Westworld: Kiksuya
(2018)
Episode 8, Season 2

Most incredible hour of anything I've ever seen
This episode left me speechless and awestruck. It must have been the single best thing I've ever seen. Absolutely astonishing storytelling, and very emotional.

PixelJunk Monsters
(2008)

There is no better tower defense than this
It's the perfect kind of tower defense, where you can play co-operative with a friend, and the tower upgrade system allows for distractions. You can just leave your controller whenever to do something else, and return later. As long as you leave your character standing on a tower (upgrading it) then you're doing something very useful. Can you imagine how chill this game is to play together in combination with other things, or even a third player? BTW the sequel destroys everything that made this first one great, so make sure you try this one first.

Happy!
(2017)

Best show ever on SyFy
The production value here is phenomenal; the script, the intensity, the performances, the subject matter.. You really couldn't ask for a more delightfully deranged show. From the makers of Crank 1 & 2.

The Boys
(2019)

As outrageous as Happy!, but with a better story
It you don't have the stomach to watch this, you're missing out. Nuff said.

American Gods
(2017)

Masterpiece of cinematography
It's a crime-venture-mystery show with fantastic overtones, my kind of stuff. Blessed by great writing, and great characters, and best of all GRIT, but where this show really shines is the jaw dropping cinematography. Much respect.

Silicon Valley
(2014)

Fantastic show until the very last episode takes a huge dump on it
This perfect, irreplaceable show began as a solid 10/10 but became a complete dumpster fire by the last episode where they completely dropped the main plot line, which is like 1000x worse than Game of Thrones' super rushed ending. If you can live without a conclusion then this show might still be worth 9/10 for sheer quality and originality.

Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker
(2019)

Unrecognizable as a movie
It's a lifeless Frankenstein's monster, made up of mismatched story parts. It's so platonic you won't care about any of it. A true prime example of bad writing. I can't believe I watched the whole damn thing. It still pisses me off because there would have literally been a million better ways to kill time. I don't think even a fanedit can fix this, unless Disney releases all the copious amounts of deleted scenes.

Terminator: Dark Fate
(2019)

Tired old format with a few nice surprises
It's T2 all over again, the AI sends a terminator further into the present in a linear fashion, rather than doing the obvious thing and send one further back in time. Yawn.

It's somewhat entertaining with a few quality moments. I wish more effects were practical, I wish the writing was better, and I wish it had that horror feel of Terminator 1. I gave it a 7 in the first viewing, which is now settling to 6/10 while I am realizing how bland the movie was. Actually Wikipedia's explanation for 'bland' explains this movie well: "Soft, low in fiber, cooked rather than raw, and not spicy" ..so bad enough to be unredeemable with a fanedit.

Another franchise ruined by bad management. They should have hired Jason Eisener, the director of Hobo with a Shotgun to make this film and set it in history with a small budget. If a sequel is too risky to make then your 'proven formula' has failed.

Still waiting for The Terminator vs The Vatican.

Hobo with a Shotgun
(2011)

If you like Robocop (1987) this is the revenge film for you!
Remember that gruesome exploitation style of the original Robocop? This film manages to capture that and double down on the grit, something that is almost unheard of these days in a quality film. Therefore Jason Eisner proves he is the perfect guy to direct the (hopefully small budget) sequel to the original Robocop.

This movie is an irreplaceable masterwork of grindhouse cinema.

Seinfeld: The Finale
(1998)
Episode 22, Season 9

A fitting end, but too much drama
A well thought out, fitting end for our four lovable sociopaths, giving an extra layer of meaning for the entire series. It's a self-re-specting story of the entire Seinfeld run, referencing a lot of the old episodes via character returns and occasionally resorting into clipshow territory. The tone is generally more serious with noticeably less laughs per minute than a typical late season episode. One of the most meaningful sitcom endings ever.

Silicon Valley: Exit Event
(2019)
Episode 7, Season 6

Wait, did Pied Piper just lock away world peace?
So Pied Piper finds out their AI can force open all encryption, allowing for absolute freedom of information by effectively disallowing secrets. A surefire way to the end all forms of inequality in the world, and these guys react (to the fear of transformational chaos?) by discrediting it so bad it can never happen again, turning themselves into literal dictators in the process. What an interesting conclusion for such an uplifting series about some guys who just wanted to change the world. I always assumed for the better.

Rambo: Last Blood
(2019)

Nothing realistic here, move on
If you're looking for the movie with the most continuity errors, epic level stupidity and wildly unrealistic action, look no further. Easily one of the worst movies I ever watched through.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day
(1991)

Masterpiece that ruined the saga for sequels
Everybody thinks Terminator 2 is the best one but I disagree. Terminator 2 certainly is a more epic and classy production than T1, but it is nowhere as gritty or original. Plus the linear progression of the story seems to be really bad for writing good sequels, so I believe they should have done the logical skynet thing and sent a terminator further back in time for an easier Connor bloodline kill, maybe crushing heads with a spikeball! Not that T2 is in any way a bad experience, it's a masterpiece that killed the franchise. Maybe Ridley Scott could have pulled off a sequel to this with heart, given a masterpiece script.

I recommend the "Terminator 2: Hands of Fate" fanedit for the slightly more serious tone.

Jeff & Some Aliens
(2017)

This helps with my thirst for more Rick and Morty
Funny, imaginative and offensive, that's my favorite brew! Better than Rick and Morty after the third season. I hope they get to make a come back and produce a lot more of this. For those of you who are desperate for more Jeff you can find shorter sketches sprinkled out in the show Trip Tank. Happy hunting!

Castle Rock
(2018)

Pacing is way, way too slow and not enough substance
I am watching S01E07 and this shall be my final episode, I loathed it that much. I'm bored out of my mind by this point. The only interesting character is The Kid and he only gets like a minute of screen time every episode. I wonder what is the substance that's supposed to carry the plot here (if not The Kid) because I'm not seeing it. The ends of episodes 1 and 4 are the only good bits, making it seem like a good show but it's definitely not up to bar with the AAA series of today. Try it if you're really into Stephen King's universe, if not you're better off choosing something else.

Juoppohullun päiväkirja
(2012)

Out loud funny with a strong psychedelic vibe, fantastic entertainment for drunks!
I'm shocked to my very core about how low the average rating is, I suspect non-drinkers won't find this funny. You might need that "been there" thing where you've been loaded for days on end. That or maybe it differs from the books and the fans are upset? Or maybe it doesn't translate well for foreign markets? I don't understand because it's honestly THE best, most preciously weird Finnish movie I've seen, ever, and one of the top comedies in the finnish/english speaking world combined. Reminds me of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. If you're the target audience do not miss it, trust me!

Oh, and you might wanna watch it drunk. It's also good for replay value!

Game of Thrones
(2011)

A masterpiece that was rushed towards the end as if it was cancelled.
The show starts out like a game changing masterpiece, with deep interesting characters and development, all the while things like war tactics from everyone's twisted perspectives are thoroughly enjoyed with a TV-MA rating (glorious!). After season 4 you can see they are already rushing the story too much. From what I hear a lot has been left out and grossly simplified from the books. By the end it has been completely fabricated. They should have stayed true to the books vigilantly, waiting patiently for Georgie to finish them like all of us. The show currently stands as the prime example of how not to deal with the original writer's material. Your eventual disappointment is pretty much guaranteed. You have been warned.

Apparently the meaningful way to enjoy this story is to watch the first two seasons of this show and then continue on from the third audio book of "A Song of Ice and Fire" since seasons 1 and 2 play out pretty much precisely the way they do in the books and they won't confuse you with changes in characters or story lines.

I have a feeling the show was actually cancelled behind the scenes for some reason, why else would they have wanted their biggest success story to be over so suddenly? As if they just had to tie up the story as fast as possible, with just enough regard for it to hopefully hold its status as an ultimate HBO article to subscribe for. Got any theories why? My theory is that the main actors became too expensive for them, hence the spinoffs because all the characters had to change. Who in their right mind would want to see a spinoff from these people who butchered one of the greatest source materials of our time so recklessly? You wanna see a spinoff that the people you hate the most wrote from scratch?

Lethal Weapon
(2016)

Half good-ish, half bad, what were they thinking?
Everybody loves the crazy Riggs parts, I'm sure but why did they reduce Murtaugh's character into some sort of captain buzzkill family drama with no comedy or anything interesting happening? As it stands half of this show will keep you amped but the other half is some sort of sleep inducing drama nightmare. I can't help but wonder what was going on in the writers room... Other than that major issue this show could've used a TV-MA timeslot to really shine in the colorful language department and added realism to some of the the so-over-the-top-it's-cheesy action sequences. Very very over-rated show, in fact it's just barely unwatchable which really pisses me off. I'm hoping for a fan edit to come out.

Star Trek: Voyager
(1995)

A True Deep Space Venture of Extreme Isolation
This show really is the adventure fan's version of Star Trek. Starfleet vessel trapped in a foreign part of space is a bold premise and it works wonders. I like the style of writing and the characters, each with their own brand of flaws and humor. I felt like part of the family.

WARNING: If you don't enjoy the first few episodes/seasons then you must give it another chance by skipping to the last episode of season 3 (or use a skiplist). See, somewhere towards the end of season 3 the quality of writing, acting, effects and production quality in general got actually good. You'll thank me later.

The fans are remastering this show in 4K utilizing AI upscaling and re-rendered special effects, let's all hope CBS joins the effort by releasing some assets like CGI.

Louie
(2010)

The Ultimate Legacy of Louis C.K.
Did I just watch the best ever series ever? Arguably yes! How does a comedy show get to this level of cinematic quality so it can be compared with modern marvels of storytelling such as Fargo, Better Call Saul, Silicon Valley or Twin Peaks: The Return?

It's unique blend is dirty, raw, delightfully surreal, honest, touching and truly hilarious. I never would have guessed Louis had this kind of talent in him. It's so surreal that while watching I had to check if David Lynch was part of the production. No wonder he agreed for the cameo, he must be a big fan!

For this series alone Louis C.K. shall be remembered as THE comedy genius of our time and not only for his killer standup specials. Mad kudos, Louie, I will forever love you for this!

Dave Attell: Road Work
(2014)

This one just topped my list
Simply put I noticed I never laughed so often with any other stand up performance so this set really takes the cake right now, arguably beating the best sets from dirty legends like Louis CK, Bill Burr, Jim Jefferies, Doug Stanhope and Jimmy Carr.

The jokes are edgy, potentially offensive and best suited for heavy drinkers so I highly recommend it. Actually the jokes are so frequent and the energy is so powerful that this set may be the one video you could watch in an actual party without ruining the flow.

Hopefully this one will redefine high performance comedy delivery for generations to come.
