Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings
(2011)

Brutal horror masterpiece
I had to write this since almost every reviewer here is giving incredibly low ratings for this movie. Wrong Turn 4 has got to be one of the most brutal and savage horror movies I have ever seen. And believe me, I have seen most of the really extreme horror out there. This is really not for the squeamish. If you think Martyrs (2008) is too heavy, wait until you see this one. It is also a great prequel for the Wrong Turn series and you can watch it first if you have not seen WT 1, 2 and 3 yet. It works also as a stand-alone movie. The settings and locations are great assets, there is sex, drugs and rock n' roll, but mostly, there is blood and gore enough to satisfy the hardcore horror fans. Actually, enough to make you sick. Up to now, I am enjoying a lot the Wrong Turn series. The first is almost perfect, a 9/10. Second and third are very good, 8/10 for both. But WT 4 is really an extremely underrated extreme horror masterpiece. Be ready to enter the bloodiest nightmare of your life. I give you my word on that.

Zombie High
(1987)

Little seen gem from the 80's
Virginia Madsen is very beautiful on this movie that is based on a kind of a Stepford Wives premise. But here conformity and brainwashing are not a gender issue but aiming to transform the youth into passive college students that are "perfect" for the financial market. There is also a subplot involving the myth of the ageless vampire but in a very peculiar way, what seemed refreshing for me. Soundtrack is very good and the conclusion is abrupt but also funny. It is surprising how little seen this movie is, at least here, on IMDb. I noticed other reviewers are complaining because they say there are no zombies and no high school. Indeed the story is set on a college. But that did not bother me at all. As for the zombies ... if you are open to a broader concept of zombies, then we have 2 types of zombies in this movie, the young and the old ones. Watch it and you will get what I mean. There is really nothing much to complain about this movie. Give it a go, it is worth it. Review by Fernando Ramos.

Los placeres ocultos
(1989)

Memorable erotic thriller
This film explores very well the relations between sex and death, pleasure and fear. It has a very tense and dark soundtrack while two interesting characters play their sex "games". There are surprising revelations along the way and the film always makes us keep guessing how it is going to end. If you are looking for a genuinely tense and scary erotic thriller this is the one.

Amityville 3-D
(1983)

Very underrated haunted house story
Richard Fleischer never directed a truly bad movie. He always stretches for originality and his films are so different one from the other. I think this one is highly underrated. If you watch it with an open mind and do not expect it all to make perfect sense you may be surprised about how much you can enjoy it. The 3 D approach gives us some very interesting perspective shots. The dialogues are well written and develop some intriguing ideas. There are echoes of Hitchcock in human/animals interaction. Also some of the scenes could have inspired the Final Destination franchise. There are some very skeptical characters, and that gives the film more credibility. As a curiosity factor, we have a very young Meg Ryan in a funny role. However, I must say: the ending is a little over the top, too absurd for it's own sake. It is like the movie suddenly becomes a total guilty pleasure. But, hey, that is not a bad thing if you enjoy campy, goofy fun. Simply adjust your mind frame for a sudden change of mood and go along for the ride. I have been postponing to watch this one because of the bad ratings and reviews here on Imdb, but today I thought of giving it a chance because I love the director's filmography. I could not be more pleased to acknowledge that Richard Fleischer has not disappointed me yet. Ignore the ratings, take the risk and judge for yourself. This a decent haunted house story with interesting ideas and creative concepts. It tried to do something different and that is always commendable.

I lunghi capelli della morte
(1964)

A masterpiece of gothic horror
Don't fool yourself, this is nothing less than a masterpiece of Italian gothic horror by director Antonio Margheriti. The story is very well constructed with shakespearean tones in an environment of the Black Plague in Europe. Gorgeous black and white cinematography, the perfectly eerie soundtrack and Barbara Steele at her best also make this movie an unforgettable gem. Don't miss it. Review by Fernando Ramos.

Eversmile New Jersey
(1989)

Very Odd and Unknown Masterpiece
This Film is very original, with a highly unique character: a travelling dentist, played perfectly by Daniel Day-Lewis in One of His best roles, and yet not talked about much. The kind of humor we have here is not everyone's cup of tea, but if you enjoy nonsensical, surrealistic stories depicted with lots of passion and an underlying philosophical message, this might Just be your dish.

Directed by the great Carlos Sorin, this is an unforgettable cinematic experience. Save it for a day when you crave for something different. But be opened for the surprise, this is not a conventional Story by any means. This is a masterfully accomplished work of art that sustains itself Pretty much on it's own universe. Certainly, One the strangest road movies ever made. And an absolute must-see for Day-Lewis fans. 10/10.
