Clarkson: Powered Up
(2011)

Clarkson as iconic as ever
Clarkson: Powered up, is not only for pure car enthusiasts. Although it is advised to like cars whatsoever. Otherwise you get stuck in the more serious parts inbetween.

The film has a lot of humor and funny quotes of mr. Clarkson himself. If you ever have seen the television show called Top Gear (UK) you would definitively know what I mean. I would say, this is Top Gear without James May (aka Captain Slow)and Richard Hammond (aka The Hamster). That it is somewhat like Top Gear is a good thing, but the charms that Captain Slow and the Hamster bring to the television show is somewhat missed. The guests like F1 driver Karun Chandhok and The Stig are also in the show. But that's all I have say about the casting of the movie.

The way everything is filmed was actually the way I expected to be. Nice overview shots from the helicopter, zoomed in details of cars and of course the gorgeous slomo's of fire popping out of exhausts and tires that are trying to get grip.

Also the sound is great, nicely chosen pieces of music and the soft and calm voice of mr. Clarkson himself.

The locations where is filmed are also stunning. The Alps in the southern of France with lots of hairpin corners and the tip of the iceberg the circuit of Paul Ricard are great.

If you like Top Gear, and you more or less fancy cars, this is the film for you to watch!

Rembrandt en ik
(2011)

How Rembrandt lived his life through the eyes of relatives
Rembrandt en Ik (Rembrandt and I)

The Story:

This is a biography of Rembrandt van Rijn the famous painter who lived in the Golden Century in the Netherlands. The whole series are told through the eyes of relatives of Rembrandt van Rijn. All of them have some sort of affection for him. Every part of the series has a different story teller. The series gives you a realistic insight in how Rembrandt lived his live and why he made his choices. (8.5)

The Scenery:

In Rembrandt en Ik (Rembrandt and I), all scenes are captured in the Netherlands, in places where Rembrandt himself could have lived. cities as Leiden, where Rembrandt van Rijn has born, and Amsterdam, where he lived the second part of his live, as the field trips he makes at a typical dutch farmland scenery. This makes the series very real. (8.5/10)

The Acting:

The overall casting of dutch players I think is quite good. Both Dragan Bakema, who played the "young" Rembrandt, as Michiel Romeyn, who played the old Rembrandt, could bring over the strong emotions that Rembrandt had in his live. Some players, with a small role, where not as good as players in the main casting. (7.5/10)

Sound:

The series is hold together with the same theme song which I think fits perfect with the story. It represents the doubt, the anger, and all other strong feelings in the series. (9/10)

Conclusion: (8.4/10)

I think this is one of the better dutch series I have seen. Very realistic dutch scenery, A lot of paintings of Rembrandt to be seen, The acting is above par and the music is great.

Battlestar Galactica
(2004)

BSG The race of humans against the cylons to find earth
I must admit that I am not really a sci-fiction fan. I don't particular like Star Trek which this series, BSG, maybe has a lot of things in common. But i liked this series very much. It is not as good as The Pacific and Band of Brothers which I particular liked. But I think it is a slightly above average series.

The film has a human approach. There are no aliens and other creatures. It is just a war against the cylons, the robots, the humans created. Most of the cylons you see are in human form which takes away the feeling that they are robots.

You can personalize almost all crew members that are important. You understand their choices in harsh time of war. There are also some people that you really going to hate. People that make bad choices and do wrong thing. But not everyone is acting at the same level. Some people are acting would i grade a 9 and some a 5 or 6(out of 10). This is sometimes a pity, although BSG never bored me.

After being a long time with our hero's in the fourth season of the series, there was for me a difficult point to come through. This was because the battlestar has gone through a lot and everyone was very depressive. But after a while things cheers up, and the story comes to one of its many climaxes. Those climaxes makes BSG rewarding to look at.

The computer animations are getting better by the seasons. If you expect top of the notch animated scenes BSG is not really the series for you. But the animations are good enough to know whats going on and not to disturb you from the story.

The music in BSG is nicely chosen I think. The sound in the battle scenes, and talking scenes are also good although I did not watched the movie on a surround set.The music is nicely blend into and between conversations.

The end of series is a "happy" ending which is kind of rewarding for the hours that you have watched the seasons though I think the climax is reached a little to soon.

Overall

Story:------------8 Acting:-----------7.2 Animated visuals:-7 Sound:------------7.5

Total:------------7.43
