Waco
(2018)

Entertaining, not what everyone says it is
I completely disagree with many of the reviews that I've seen saying that this show "idolized Koresh". What were you guys watching? Koresh was painted in a very good light for the first couple of episodes but beyond that he was very very ugly in this series. They absolutely made a point of showing the pain he inflicted on his people and if you were rooting for him in the end.... I don't know what to tell you, that certainly isn't the vibe I got from the series.

Seems to me this story was well told from both sides. A solid solid 78/100 from an entertainment point of view. I recommend a watch here.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw
(2021)

Underwhelming return to the cinema
I was so excited to see this. It was a tradition for me and my buddy back in the day to go to the theater every Halloween for the new Saw sequel. We just had a good time.

I had pretty high expectations for Spiral, but even as I was lowering them throughout the film I kept being disappointed. The traps just weren't impressive at all. I've heard a lot of people say the first one was amazing, and while it was filmed quite well, I didn't think it was great either. So many traps that were simpler from the first 4-5 movies had so much more of an impact. I'll skip over discussing a lot of the details of the film and just get to the ending, which had major Saw IV vibes, and left me feeling pretty empty. I'm not one of these people that claims to have seen the twist coming...I didn't, but it didn't make my jaw drop or fascinate me at all. The ending felt rushed and I don't know exactly what impact they were trying to have.

I'm giving it a 5/10 simply for the effort of bringing the series back. Rock does a decent job really. I just wish the creativity was there.

"Kinda surprised by all the negative reviews.."
LOL this is basically a podcast being sold as some sort of innovative way of producing content on a "premium" streaming service. I like when people leave a 9-10/10 review for something that's brand new and it's the only review they've ever done, really makes ya think doesn't it? Get ready for my comment to be downvoted into oblivion.

Greenland

Decent film for 2020
Overflowing with cliches but most of the movie had a pretty realistic feel to it. The ending puts everything together a bit too neatly for my taste but still a decent film.

The Perfect Weapon
(2020)

What a Shocker
Briefly talks about two very interesting hacking cases regarding Las Vegas and the North Korea movie, then predictably gets right into eLeCtIoN iNtEraFeReNce!!!!!!!!!!! Because none of us have heard enough about that, let's beat the dead rotting horse corpse for another 45 minutes, epic.

An American Pickle
(2020)

No
Nothing about this movie is funny, and the dramatic/emotional parts of the film are cringe.

Chernobyl
(2019)

Excellent
I agree with another user who says they explained the science behind this tragedy very well, and in a very entertaining fashion I might add. The final episode in the court room is one of the most interesting, informative, and well written pieces of film I've seen.

I arrive at an 8/10 because I have to take two points off for pacing. This is only my opinion. One of the storylines in particular (about dogs) dragged on far too long in my opinion. It seemed like nearly an entire episode was dedicated to a fairly basic concept with somewhat shallow characters that added very little for me beyond the initial shock value of it all.

My opinion on that aside, this is gripping, dark television at it's finest.

Unfriended: Dark Web
(2018)

Starts out slow, picks up, then crashes terribly
This movie is better than its predecessor. With that being said, it starts out incredibly slow, for a long period of time, given how short the total feature is. The main protagonist is as unlikeable as they come. The supporting characters are meaningless. It picks up quickly around the 40 minute mark and you get a feeling that this film might redeem itself. The final act is horrible. The "twists" at the end make almost no sense at all and seem to just be added for the sake of trying to be clever. It doesn't work.
