Abbott Elementary: Party
(2024)
Episode 14, Season 3

Now THAT was a season ending episode
WOW!!! I'm going to try very hard to not give away any spoilers. My most favorite episode of the season, and not because of the last scene, but that has a lot to do with it.

Abbott Elementary is a great show. Each episode is so unique, well written, incredibly acted with soooooo many LOL moments. The "glance at the camera" that is incorporated into every episode is so well placed, and we get tow of them, back to back, and the timing is perfect. DO NOT miss the last scene, we've been waiting for it for awhile, and we were finally rewarded

The end of the school year party was so great. The way Janine orchestrated it with with every character in mind was spectacular. I want to know who does the writing. Is it Quinta, or her stable of writers. I love it.

Am so looking forward to next season to see where this episode leads.

Young Sheldon: Pilot
(2017)
Episode 1, Season 1

And here we are in 2024, who woulda thought
I've watched every episode of Young Sheldon since this the first episode in 2017. I had no idea the journey this show would take me on. With two episodes left in season 7, I am saddened of its departure...but I get it.

This Pilot episode was incredible. I've only seen it once when it was done back on Feb 25, 2017. WOW!!! I didn't start giving ratings or comments until episode 3-16. The pilot gave birth to a show that was impossible to NOT watch, and to those who ripped it with either ridiculous low ratings or terrible comments...really?

We got to see the dynamics of the household with Georgie, Missy, and of course George and Mary. What a dysfunctional family, all due to Sheldon.

Then there was the school classroom and Sheldon calling out his classmates, too funny.

And the pow wow in the principal's office with the teachers, the principal and George and Mary. I forgot all this, but it was spot on due to Sheldon's affect in the school on the school.

As we wait for episodes 13 & 14 to conclude this absolutely wonderful series I'm so happy the first two episodes were shown after "A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture".

This pilot episode was epic.

Young Sheldon: A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture
(2024)
Episode 12, Season 7

Not prepared
If this is read before knowing about this episode, I'm going to do my best with not revealing the spoiler. We have been wondering about this episode since Big Bang Theory when Sheldon while working in his in-laws tire store mentioned his father was dead. Much like life when a loved one suddenly dies, it is a shock. That goes for this episode. We weren't prepared for this episode, particularly the very last scene.

This season of Sheldon has been the very very best, we just don't understand WHY this is the last season. Every episode this season, along with this one has been incredibly written. The subject matter for each episode has been fresh with LOL moments during every scene, and here we are in this episode with two more to go, and...

I apologize to those who are going to be upset my review with my spoiler, but...

I was not prepared for this.

Also, in Chuck Lorre's post notes, which we didn't see until the beginning of the next show, he explains the process of this last scene and how it originated.

Though we are not looking forward to Young Sheldon's ending, we are looking forward to the last two episodes along with the new show with Young Georgie and Mandy.

NCIS: Hawai'i: Divided We Conquer
(2024)
Episode 10, Season 3

What a shame
I still cannot believe that the CBS think/toilet tank deemed it necessary to get rid of NCIS, NCIS:LOS ANGELES, and NCIS:HAWAI'I. Really? And then to add insult to injury, they keep NCIS SYDNEY? Are you kidding me? Yea, there have been many changes in the casts of of NCIS and NCIS: LOS ANGELES, and though I didn't agree with them, starting with Kate, the shows evolved and the new characters fit in just fine. This speaks to the shows and how great they were. How great ALL the characters were. I never thought the departure of Mark Harmon would work out. And though I've been a fan of Gary Cole in the past, but him replacing Mark Harmon...come on. He was awesome.

So, we just watched Divided We Conquer. Huh?? We were expecting the worst, and we thought it was goin to happen, all signs pointed to it but no. They were all left standing at the end. Is the big proverbial revolving door in play here?

CBS is the bad guy here. I haven't even mentioned Blue Bloods. Why is that show going away? Great ratings, great night, incredible cast, they all want to come back, Tom Selleck going off the air. I'm disappointed.

I still haven't watched the last two episodes of NCIS. I think I'm in denial, at least from the little hints I've heard. I remember seeing the last Mash episode many many years ago. It was devastating.

Sorry to all who are reading this and I'm not discussing this episode, but I needed to vent.

I didn't edit this for a reason.

Scrubs
(2001)

BRILLIANT
We just finished watching Scrubs today, 3/6/24. I don't know why it too me so long to get into it, but I'm glad I finally got into it 19 or 30 years later. We first started watching it on a cable channel that reruns old shows. We watched them as they came up, but NOT in any order. I set the settings on my DVR to record every single episode. At one time we had well over 100 episodes and we began watching them in order, of what was recorded. Whenever an episode came up in between episodes that we saw, we watched that one to fill in the order.

We just finished season 9 which was horrible, the ratings were low and the reviews weren't up to par of the previous 8 seasons. Admittedly season 8 was the last real season and the last episode in season 8 was the last series ending episode.

We loved Scrubs, too too funny, every episode. You get to know each and every character and their idiosyncratic behaviors.

The writing was spot on. The cameos were great and there were many of them. My favorite character? Too difficult to pick just one. I tried to envision how it would end, and what the last season and last episode would be like, but I was totally wrong. As I wrote, season 8 was the last real season, and season 9 was just a bonus, though disjointed.

Could I watch Scrubs again?......absolutely!

Thanks to everyone of Scrubs who entertained us. I don't think we'll ever see a show like this again.

Scrubs: Our Stuff Gets Real
(2010)
Episode 9, Season 9

NOT what I was expecting or looking forward to
This season, every episode has been terrible. We looked forward to this last season soooooo much, we were looking to a party filled season. In stead though we got this. And then, to make it worse, I did something I rarely ever do, I read the reviews and trivia (I usually wait till after each episode) and what did I find out? That most all of the characters that has made Scrubs work, that this is their last episode and there are still many more to see, which means we(I) have to endure the pitiful new characters. What a way to end a great show. Very disappointed.

I realize we all have different optics of how we watch shows, and what we infer from the shows. If you really analyze the new characters and how they act and their dialogue, we've already heard and seen it, but from the characters we have seen during the preceding 8 seasons, and...all those episodes received reviews in the 8's & 9's. What are season 9 episodes receiving?, look them up....5's. I felt my rating of 2 was harsh, but I couldn't give it a 1.

I realize all shows have to end, and older characters have leave and be replaced, but the way it was done in season 8 is so radical.

I'm wondering what the last episode is going to be like?

For the remainder of the season I will not read any reviews or the trivia. I'll organically see what is happening.

I'M OUT!!!

Succession: The Munsters
(2023)
Episode 1, Season 4

No disrespect meant
I cannot get on board and rate this a 10 like just about everyone else, nor can I hit it with a 9.

Granted, Succession is unbelievably great. I can't wait till the last episode though. Am I tired of it? Maybe. Do I see anything new in each episode? Ehhhh, maybe, what I do see is variations of the same theme(s) in every episode. Is it entertaining? Absolutely. How, how, how is this going to end? I have no idea, but I can't wait. I would love to know what Logan's HR/BP is. I've been waiting for a throat clutching chest grabbing heart attack to happen to Logan. Do people of his ilk really act like this. I would like to know.

Every body is despicable in this show. I have changed a hundred different ways who I liked their chapter. Logan in the beginning, but then his kids all, all of them has his terrible traits. I wrote him off. Shiv? I liked her a lot as well, butsh3 is more like her dad than anyone else. Roman, IMO he is the worst of the kids. Connor? He doesn't have a clue and is a user. That leaves Kendall. I'm confusing the incredible acting of Jeremy Strong with maybe the smartest of all the kids. All this really doesn't really matter because they are all dysfunctional and as a whole they cannot come up with a plan to take their dad down because they are all so greedy and want the entire pie.

And then.....there's this episode regarding Shiv & Tom. Tom has to go, but I wouldn't be surprised if he comes out on top. Shiv & Tom, are they just a power couple, too much the same or Tom so stupid that they stay together. Will they really be split up by the end of this show.

And I have one remaining thought/question. Do people in this situation of power and wealth REALLY act like this? If so, all I can say is OMG.

Bob Marley: One Love
(2024)

I was moved...WOW
First off, Happy Valentines Day to everyone who saw Bob Marley: One Love today. I'm not totally knowledgeable on all things Bob Marley to know accuracies &/or inaccuracies of this movie, but from a pure music appreciation point of view, my emotions were heightened watching One Love. As I said, I don't know a lot about Marley or reggae music but I do know what sounds great and what I like. Fortunately my music tastes are varied and eclectic, my kids, in their 40's can't believe that their almost 71 year old father appreciates Marley.

The music was outstanding, one of my prized albums is Exodus which is discussed in depth. I didn't know that Time Magazine rated Exodus as the album of the century, high praise indeed. The role of Marley played by Kingsley Ben-Adir was transformative. In an interview he said he had to learn to do everything for this movie. Sing, play guitar, lose weight, and speak with the Jamaican dialect. Unless the real Bob Marley was right next to Kingsley you got lost in his role playing, I know I did. The extras were incredible and the pot smoking was throughout the entire movie.

When I first heard of the production of this movie a few months ago, I knew it was a movie I had to see. I'm so happy I saw it on the first showing on opening day. I did know beforehand that it was set in 1967-1968 and his death in 1981. One Love relates the high lights and aftermath of getting shot and his one true meaning of his music...LOVE. Not his love of a single person, but of man kind.

Though we all view things through different optics, and I get that, especially in this tumultuous political times, I was a bit surprised with the overall rating from the IMDB community. I expected a rating of over 6.5. I have not read any reviews yet, I will but I'm interested in why the low rating.

One last thing, if you read this and decide to see One Love, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT leave early. The last scenes, the tributes to Bob Marley were worth the price of admission. For those who don't know a lot of him, like me, you will get an education.

Excellent, excellent docudrama, I WILL see it again soon.

The Bear: Braciole
(2022)
Episode 8, Season 1

I'm astounded what a great episode this was
I do not want to give any little thing away about this episode, it's going to be difficult because every detail of this episode has a direct relation to what has occurred in past episodes and hopefully about what is going to go on going forward. (Sorry for the run on sentence.)

I can't say that I've wanted to give up on The Bear, because I haven't, but there has been so much chaos that I haven't been able to see the path, where The Bear is going. I don't think I've ever seen a series where the season ending episode was so positive as this one. The path forward looks so positive.

Food and eating together is such a community event that the last scene is so wonderful, it will bring a smile to your face.

I cannot wait to start on season 2.

The Bear: System
(2022)
Episode 1, Season 1

Great pilot, I'm hooked
I've heard so much about The Bear, and seeing all the awards it has garnered, well, the hook got planted in my mouth and I finally started watching it.

What a rush, I had a difficult time watching the pilot with all the screaming, the frenetic pace, and really no focus on anything. But I loved it.

I wanted to give it a 10, just for the entertainment alone, but I need to see other episodes to see where it goes, what the issues are and how things are resolved. There was so much going on at the same time in this episode, who's in charge? The contentious relationship between everyone is crazy. I am so looking forward to seeing how it all works out.

I can see after this first episode why this is such a hit. I'm a bit surprised by the overall 7.7 rating. The discussions seem to point in another direction.

I did something I don't normally do, I read the reviews while I was watching the episode. I needed to find out what is going on, and the direction that other viewers thought it was going. I usually watch whatever it is, and input my review BEFORE I read other reviews and my rating.

I so looking forward to getting into this show.

WOW!!!!!!!

Pine Gap: Episode #1.1
(2018)
Episode 1, Season 1

Very promising
I like it. This first episode had my attention from the get go. It started with a bang and I am so looking forward to how it plays out. Very tenseful and understanding what it is that happens at Pine Gap is pretty apparent. I really want this show to work. It was advertised as a cross between West Wing (absolutely) and House of Cards (waiting for that). It seems that Pine Gap monitors the skies with their satellites and drones. A private plane was blown out of the skies that Pine Gap monitored. POTUS was in the line of fire. Somehow malware got installed in the computers, and that's another story.

Moses, the IT guy has the run of the site and may be the smartest guy there.

Lots of stuff happening, looking forward to how it all works. Hmmmmm. I have my suspicions so let's see how it goes.

Haul Out the Holly: Lit Up
(2023)

Sequel was worse than terrible original
I don't usually give up on movies...I didn't give up on this, though it give the original a run for terrible and it won...and I didn't give up on it. The Johnson's were annoying, over bearing, mean, contriving, and...... I could go on and on. I rated the original a 4 and I quit maybe half way through. I couldn't justify giving this any thing other than a 1.

I'm not going to make a political statement out of this movie but the competiveness of The Johnson's was so political in nature.

I saw from the outset how this was going and at first I thought I was watching the original. Everything was the same. Then I found Haul out the Holly and thought here we go again...and it was worse.

I made it through to the end.......ugh!

Reacher
(2022)

INTENSE! So happy Reacher is back
If you are reading this and either know nothing about Reacher, have not seen any of these episodes last season & now, have not read any books, and only know Reacher thru that guy who will remain nameless in the movies, sit back and enjoy.

First off, I wish I hadn't watched this first episode of three because Reacher is meant to watch consecutively, but oh well, there is nothing on TV, or the big screen like Reacher.

I've been reading Reacher since the fist book and all I can say is that the first season and now this first episode is just like the books. If you knew nothing about Reacher, then you would enjoy the movies despite the actor portraying Reacher. IF, IF you knew about Reacher those two movies were horrible.

What I'm trying to get at is this series on Prime is the real deal. The stories, the violence, the way Reacher talks. This first episode of season two is outstanding.

Again, hang in there for the ride, nothing like it on TV.

The Amazing Race
(2001)

The BEST season's race
I have been watching The Amazing Race since season one. This season is by far, without a doubt and above all the best Amazing Race I have watched. WHY? I hope I am able to remember ALL the reasons.

What it boils down to is that there wasn't a single team I yelled at and got upset with due to bickering, giving up, not putting in 110% effort and being likable participants. Yea, I had my favorite team that I wanted to win, but at the end I was fully vested into the final three teams. Unbelievable.

The places they visited were incredible. I'll never get to see all the countries, and experience the warmth of the citizens of all the countries, this is probably one of the main reasons I watch this show.

What a fantastic season, I am already looking forward to next season.

WOW!!!

NCIS: Sydney
(2023)

HOW did I make it through the first 4 episodes
I guess because I thought it would get better, AND since there is no NCIS on of any variety I would give it a chance, despite my better logic.

This show is terrible and I feel insulted as a viewer of the NCIS franchise that the writers, producers, all of the powers of this franchise would peddle this to us.

Here's what I do not understand. Why are the ratings for each individual episode in the 7's and 8's and the overall rating for this series is a 5.6...I think.

Where do I start?

*Maybe this is a subjective criticism and I have no issue with the Australian accent but the accents of all the actors is just way to severe. Maybe the producers could have softened it up a bit for us "yanks" to understand.

*Whomever cast the folks in this show did a horrible job. Almost every character is miscast...or maybe it's the writers. The character Michelle, the leader? Has no leadership abilities, her personality is blah, I just don't think she fits the role. I'm trying to figure out DeShawn but his role in this is terrible. Really, do guys in this job act like this, he thinks he's a player and strutting his stuff for Evie or any other female. Evie, she's the worse. Her clothing is totally inappropriate in this setting. She's playing a tough bad ass, oh come on. AND then there's Bluebird. Why do all the NCIS shows have to have someone like Bluebird. Her character/personality worked in the other shows, Buebird is just downright annoying. Doc is believable just difficult to understand and Jim is great, he leads by example.

I guess all the powers to be in this series just stole the NCIS name, there's nothing else familiar here.

Ducky is probably turning over in his grave, and Jethro I have no idea how he would feel but it can't be good with everything he put into this series. I guess that is why he went away...he saw the writing on the wall.

I'm done..

A Heidelberg Holiday
(2023)

A Heidelberg Holiday will be a yearly Christmas movie
So so so many things to love about this movie. It was a beautiful movie from beginning to end. The story was so rich, inter weaving the history of Christmas in Heidelberg along with the history of Heidelberg.

I really believed the relationship between Heidi and Lukas. I thought their chemistry jumped off the screen to us in the audience. I've only seen one other Hallmark movie featuring Gina Claire Mason who plays Heidi, and she is spectacular. We see the same female leads in Hallmark movies, but she is different. Hope to see more of her.

As great as the story was and the actors in it though, the star of this movie was Heidelberg. A beautiful beautiful German city, rich in history. When I saw that Heidelberg was the backdrop the first thing I did was to look up locations of this hoping it wasn't filmed in Canada with some filler shots in Heidelberg. No Canada. It was filmed in Heidelberg and it's castle with other filming in Serbia. I spent 30 months in the Army in Kaiserslautern which is the largest U. S. military community outside the United States and I spent much time off at Heidelberg. What you see in the movie is what you get there.

Great job to Hallmark for A Heidelberg Holiday.

The Morning Show: The Stanford Student
(2023)
Episode 6, Season 3

Same writers as Episode 5?
WOW, what a turnaround from episode 5. I enjoyed this one, though there are a few things that bug me. Stella for one. I guess in every office environment there is a snake like Stella. She really does this part well, I cannot stand her. Bradley's brother seems as though he wants to do the correct thing, but Bradley's stance seems to be all about self preservation. I'm worried about her brother and his direction after his conversation with Laura. She's (Laura) all about self preservation as well.

Looks like other reviewers agree with my thoughts about the writers of the previous episode. I'm glad this episode has changed directions.

The Morning Show: Love Island
(2023)
Episode 5, Season 3

I cannot find a headline that expresses my displeasure
I couldn't rate this a "1", though I wanted to because even though it was that bad I feel as though there was a message somewhere...guess I missed it.

The writers for this episode need to be fired. I'm thinking that they had no concept of a show and deciding to hash out ALL the past of real history was the best they could do. REALLY? The writing and subject matter of this show up to this episode has been so good, I was shocked about this one. Actually though this season has been a disappointment comparing it to the first two. But this episode almost, almost talked me into quitting watching The Morning Show. As I write this I'm watching episode 6. I hope this is better.

Before We Go
(2014)

I wanted more..and wasn't concerned with the outcome
Usually I don't write reviews with spoilers, and I'm going to attempt a non-spoiler review here, but.....

I was so moved by Before We Go, that I didn't want it to end. It had so much substance to it. I didn't care at the end if they went on separately or together, their time together was so meaningful for each other, that that wasn't important. Their pasts like so many of us ran parallel courses.

Did they have baggage that they finally unpacked, all to do with relationships.

I try not to read reviews before movies so I'm not influenced one way or the other as I watch the movie. I also try to not read reviews prior to my reviews. I haven't done so here either.

I think they are better people for knowing each other and sharing their tribulations and each going their own ways, but deep inside I wanted them to stay with each other.

Wonderful movie, great acting, awesome directing in his debut.

Everybody Loves Diamonds: A Near-Perfect Plan
(2023)
Episode 1, Season 1

Can't wait to see where this goes
First episode was enjoyable. I guess that all the questions I have will be answered in the subsequent episodes. Because I am the first to comment on episode 1 I don't have any feedback to see anything that I missed, but that's OK. As I said in my title I am intrigued at seeing where this goes. This first episode ended more abruptly (no spoilers here) than I expected which was surprising so I guess we the audience have to guess on its direction. The comedy in this was just right to balance out the drama here. On a show like this it's so difficult to make comments without giving anything away. So if you the reader has not seen this, but you are reading my comments, check this out, it's fun.

Special Forces: World's Toughest Test: Test of Character
(2023)
Episode 1, Season 1

Here we go...again
After seeing season one, I know? What to expect. Just watching the introductions I knew who will not be around at the end &/or who will immediately quit. I was a bit surprised at the attrition in season 1, I think it's more transparent here in season 2. I already chose my first quitter, at the beginning, I'm not going to spoil it though.

I find it amazing that the contestants, or most of them unless their real personality shown through did not do their research, homework, self inspection prior to being on this show. Are you kidding me? I enlisted in the Army wayyyyy back in the 70's before I was drafted. I had an extremely low draft number. I DID NOT DO MY RESEARCH PRIOR TO BASIC, and that taught me a huge lesson, as the Boy Scouts Motto is,...Be Prepared.

The activities though different from season 1 do share one core component in one's personality...confidence. It's apparent that those who succeeded were confident. Physicality and self awareness play a big part in success. ALSO, and this is huge in my opinion, those who could look forward will succeed, not those who have demons and baggage they are bringing into this. There was an altercation in the cabin between a female and a male that highlight this.

Cannot wait to see how this unfolds.

I hope I did not reveal any spoilers. Also, I was surprised at the amount of recruits that dropped out in episode one.

Oh yea, if you are reading my review before watching episode 1, and shame on you, as you are taking all the enjoyment out of this show, but if you are reading reviews first, you have to watch this show.

The Irrational: Pilot
(2023)
Episode 1, Season 1

Hopefully future episodes will be as good as this
This pilot was outstanding. I could have rated it a 10, but for Jesse Martin but it's a good thing. I'm a huge fan of Mr Martin but he kept getting in the way. I was so caught up in/with his role I kinda lost track of everything else. Jesse Martin was outstanding.

I said to my wife that his role and the plot reminded me of The Mentalist. He changed his story of his facial burn a couple times, has he not come to terms with it?

I think this show has a huge upside, much promise. I knew from the start I was going to like it, and I did. Are the next episodes going to build on the pilot or are they going to be stand alone.

With the writers going on I was ready for something other than reality shows and repeats of shows that I have already seen.

Am looking forward to the next episode.

LA Fire and Rescue: Passing the Torch
(2023)
Episode 8, Season 1

PLEASE bring this show back... PLEASE
It seems as though this show has been on weeks, months, but this is only the eighth episode. I want more.

Being the son of a fire fighter/law enforcement officer, yea both, I regret not being the sponge and soaking up his experiences. LA Fire and Rescue has really illustrated to me what fire fighters and paramedics deal with every shift.

I usually distance myself from these shows. They are overly dramatized and too lovey dovey. All I want to see are the nuts and bolts of their profession, and this show delivers. It has camera men embedded with the stations and fire trucks and they do an incredibly excellent job capturing the calls and what all the personnel deals with.

I love this show and will be sad if it does not come back.

Dick Wolf, fantastic show, you are to be commended.

Oppenheimer
(2023)

Despite all the hype it was THAT incredible
If you read this or any reviews before seeing (which you shouldn't do) Oppenheimer, rush out and see it. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. I knew enough about The Manhattan Project and Oppenheimer to prepare me for it. No surprises.

Everything about this movie was exceptional. The cinematography sold Oppenheimer. Nolan filmed this in IMAX film which contributed to its magnitude. I've never been a fan of IMAX films but thought this was the film to see on the IMAX screen. I wasn't disappointed but I could have saved about $11 by seeing it in the digital theatre and probably would have enjoyed it the same. My one complaint though which was probably attributed to the IMAX theatre was the sound volume. A bit too much as it was difficult to clearly hear the dialogue.

They nailed the sense out in the New Mexico dessert. I felt as if I was there. Was the Richter scale measuring earthquakes back then? From what I've read and heard in interviews, Nolan wanted the test to be as realistic as possible. I'm usually one to not be affected by sound affects, etc, but I was not prepared for the sound of the test explosion.

The book which this movie is based on by Kai Bird, American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer is now a must read for me.

One small complaint/suggestion I have is that I wish it would have been dumbed down for us/me to understand more thoroughly.

I can see a deluge of Oscar nominations in so many categories. Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer better be nominated. Directing, screenplay, editing cinematography should also be nominations...but we'll see.

I've tried very hard to not talk about any spoilers and for the most part I think I succeeded.

See Oppenheimer, what an experience.

Happiness for Beginners
(2023)

Delightful & peaceful story
I cannot wait to read this book. At the 1.33 mark I went to Libby and tagged it, there was already a group of people that had a hold on it. I keep wondering how it is going to end.

I don't know what drew us to watch it, but what a great decision. My wife would say it was Luke Grimes, yea I get it. What I really liked about this movie, and can't wait to explore it in the book was that in the beginning everyone had their flaws and it looked as though there was going to be way too much stress. All of a sudden I realized how harmoniously they were with each other. Really made me smile.

The locale that this was shot was beautiful. The scenes of the group hiking in the meadows and on tree lines was very happy as they hiked in a single file line.

I'm glad we found this as it was released only 2 days prior to us seeing it.

I can now read the reviews and see what other views of this are. I hate reading reviews prior to seeing a movie. If you are one of those who read the reviews prior to watching a movie and you are reading this...by all means you need to watch this, hopefully you will not be disappointed.

See all reviews
