Gunless
(2010)

Underrated movie
This is a lighthearted Canadian western (if there is such a thing). I don't think this film has a lot of international appeal but for those of us who live in Canada, I believe that this film is one to try out! The comedy in this film is cute, and the action is not bad considering how many cast members are in this film. But this is what gives this film its charm.

But what really pulls this film off is the scenery, I believe they filmed this out in Osoyoos BC (in the interior) and you really can't complain about the beautiful night sky full of stars, and the rugged dusty terrain of one of the most charming parts of BC.

Overall, this ain't no Unforgiven but it is a unique, Canadian made, film that is fun to watch.

Billy Connolly: Journey to the Edge of the World
(2009)

Not bad
I've seen several series based on Canada and this one is among my favourites. I can see this series being popular for people who are travelling to Canada but like other films in this genre, I find it hard to believe that people will be running out mad to pick this one up.

But really, you should make an effort to see this and here are a few reasons why:

Firstly, doing such a trip is very expensive. A Northwest Passage cruise can cost $5000+ per person, and even flying from Edmonton to the Baffin Islands is super expensive. Unless you are rich, you probably won't do this trip - but you will definitely see things in this film that will amaze you - like the wonderful scenery and people Billy encounters across the map from Nova Scotia to Vancouver Island.

Secondly, Billy is a great host. He has a positive attitude with an enthusiastic Scottish flair and ... he plays banjo. Need I say more?

And finally, I find this to be a cohesive film with a well balanced set of narration (of informative history and facts) and Billy being Billy. You feel positive after watching this film. This series reminds me of "On The Road Again" played on the CBC.

My only reasoning for giving this a lower score was because I felt as if the interviews were rushed - I would've liked to learn more about the people across Canada but often I felt as if he's missed a couple of things. It's unfortunate that the series only covers the NWP because every province has something wonderful and amazing.

Other than that, it's a great series.
