There's Something in the Barn
(2023)

Fun Horror if you don't take it seriously
Although I watched this to see Martin Starr, I stayed for the family and friend from the museum. Plus the character from the barn. I think this movie is all about how you enter into it - what is your expectation? I loved that this film did not go CGI - I am all about practical effects. The Barnelfish language was hilarious. It's a movie where it's not difficult to guess where it's going, but then it may also surprise you. For instance, there are a lot of call backs from the early parts of the movie that come into play later. One of which involves a moose baby that I thought for sure would end up with the father moose coming up and murdering the two elves. Instead, a truck came out of nowhere and plowed right through them. I thought this was hilarious.

As far as the horror, it's absolutely campy. While the start did have some eeriness to it, eventually it's just elves that like cookies and if you give them crappy lutefisk instead of quality porridge, they will come for you. Honestly Martin Starr's character is so oblivious and a terrible dad but the other characters are aware of this. Is the movie flawless? Not in the least. Are some parts written poorly and drawn out too long? Absolutely. But overall I would have given this a 6.5 because it was a fun concept and I thought the ending was great.

Twisted Metal

Showed up for Anthony Mackie, stayed for sweet tooth
Holy cow, I knew of this game for years and never looked into it, saw the preview on Peacock and Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz made me want to watch for sure. After seeing Samoa Joe with Will Arnett's voice I binged the whole thing. I had no idea this existed and now I cannot wait for the second season. The way they incorporated music from my freshman and sophomore year of high school into amazing scenes of violence and humor was absolutely perfect and I look forward to seeing how they continue this masterpiece. The acting, the chemistry - especially between Mackie and Sweet Tooth - will keep me watching out for the next season to drop. Great funny adrenaline feel.

Sick
(2022)

Would be 1.8
This is the dumbest movie I have seen in a while. She could have tried using the computer for 20 minutes. She could have popped a hole in the plastic bag. I was not rooting for any of these characters and I had no reason to care what happened to them. The setup was dumb.

Miri spent the entire time trying to make a splint for her leg with no thought for her own rescue or her friend's? We know there was at least the one next door neighbor so it wasn't that remote. There was not enough in the beginning to make sense of it or a good reason to connect with the characters and all of these kill scenes have been done before. The attack of Miri through the window falling to the ground was basically taken from Scream. The attack on the Achilles tendon was from pet sematary. The dad was trying SO HARD to be John Malkovich. This movie was a colossal waste of time with no real payoff. Thumbs down, no thanks, watch it never.

Like Blair Witch on Steroids with some really dumb people
Looking for a cinematic masterpiece? You will not find it here. However, this is still an interesting ride. It was a lot of stuff that I didn't expect to happen and some twists, but also just crazy hysterical moments. There were a few decent jump scares, but don't go in with an expectation that this is going to be a masterpiece because it isn't. I would watch it again just to see how many times I will say WTF? There are a lot of moments that remind me of Blair witch, there's also a little bit of Afflicted feeling. I don't understand the need for the political crazy, but I don't take this movie too seriously and if you don't overthink it, you may very well enjoy this movie. Especially if you like watching kind of B-Horror.

Halloween Party
(2019)

Forgettable
This is a movie I will not remember having watched; it was noise and that's about it. If you are looking for something to play in the background while you're working or something, this will not distract you.

Always Watching: A Marble Hornets Story
(2015)

A movie concept that sticks with you
I don't really understand why this has so many horrible reviews, but for me this one was an entertaining watch. The reason I know for me it was entertaining was because it was stuck in my head months later and I had to do research to remember what the title of the movie was. Whenever that happens, regardless of how "great" the movie was, it's a guilty pleasure for me.

Lovecraft Country
(2020)

Expertly Developed and Cast
I have no idea why this has such a low rating, it feels brilliantly written and executed. It may be because I'm not black. But I love Jordan Peele and this show is my new favorite obsession. The music, the story, the pace. Spot on. I look forward to more episodes!!

Wendigo
(2001)

Too Boring to Finish
I had high hopes, as someone who loves creepypastas and cryptozoology. Wendigo is my favorite creature to read about and watch YouTube videos on. This was an absolute waste of time. Absolute SH..

Extraordinary
(2017)

Inspiring
I am not sure why this has such a low rating. It was a great story and a true story. I would love to look into this guy's running class. He saved lives, physically and spiritually. Please do not let the rating keep you from at least giving this a chance.
