Black Adam
(2022)

Better than expected
I wasn't gonna write e review for this film, but seeing the overwhelming hate it gets I feel I have to write something.

The film is very entertaining as far as superhero movies goes, and rivals that of many Marvel films. The plot is simple enough to follow, not the best or most interesting I've seen but not the worst either. The acting from a few of the characters is abit stale and poor, but there are some redeeming characters as well like Dr. Fate performed by Pierce Brosnan, easily the star of the film imo. Action is good, maybe abit over exaggerated, but again better than many Marvel fights I've seen.

Turning Red
(2022)

What were the characters thinking
I get the whole premise about the film, about growing up and hormons running rampant and changing you, but there were so many moments in this film that made me scream "what are you thinking!! Why are you making all these ridiculous choices" the film is ok, has some heartfelt moments, i especially like the dad alot, the main character and her mom are mostly just annoying, especially the mom. What really ruined it for me is the fact that the mom convenitally for the plot is 50× the size of the others panda which is just beyond stupid. Its never explained and breaks all believability (yes even in a film with magical redpandas I want to have some form of Magical boundaries).

The whole film is 5/10, not bad but not good either, pretty sure kids will enjoy it.

The Woman King
(2022)

A twisting of history to fit a feministic narrative
First of, this film is sooo sooo historically incorrect it's laughable. Turning the Mahomey tribe into the heroes (they were actually the real slavers of the African tribes) only to push this feminist power agenda. Yes it is true that Mahomey used woman warriors, but this whole supersoldier nonsense again defeats the whole purpose for me. I want realistic woman doing great things, not some blackpanther wannabes. If you go into the film with that in mind and think of this as a completely fictional story then it's pretty good. Great performances all around, great music, ok cinematography. The plot as previously mentioned is twisted to fit a narrative, but the side plots between the characters is entertaining and moving. I definitely shed a tear when (sorry can't remember her name gets shot trying to escape). I as a white european have hoped for more historic African films because their history has alot to offer, hopefully this can open up to more African centred films to be made.

The Last Duel
(2021)

Medieval France come to life
The story is about to French squires who start out as friends, their lives gonin opposite directions as one is favoured more than the other by their lord Pierre. Without spoiling anything, they end up having a duel.

I'll start with the negatives, the film is split into three chapters, one chapter each depicting the view of the three main characters, this itself isn't a negative thing but it does feel a little slow and dragged out, aswell as a little repetitive.

The positives, great sets, music costumes, everything feels real and dirty. Great acting all around, i particularly like that they portray men realistically from the time period and not the bad guy as evil and the good guy as a knight in shining armour.

If you like period dramas with an exciting story and excellent ending then this is one to see.

Encanto
(2021)

En can't o
Honestly were do I start.... The positives, the theme of poor family dynamics and feeling left out, unloved and different is a good theme to explore, the scenery and effects are good as always.

The negatives, the music in my opinion was just meh, and also way to abundant (which I believe is due to the plot being to short/thin). Now to the plot, the plot is that we have the Madrigals, an apparent perfect family that isn't actually so perfect after all, they have magic powers but they also have the same problems that the rest of us have. So the drama of the film is that all the kids get given powers at a certain age except our protagonist, no one knows why (and we don't really find out during the film either) this drives a wedge between her and the others as she feels useless. Because the family isn't in harmony the magic starts to fail. The climax of the film is that they loose the magic and their house, but honestly so what?!?! The village will help them and no one in the family gets hurt, the climax just feels so insignificant. And then the whole plot line is fixed by the protagonist having one conversation with her Abuela, and just like that everything is back the way things were.

One of the weaker Disney film in the last 10 years if you ask me.

The Gunk
(2021)

Clean up time
Hey there, seems I'm the first to make a review so I'll do my best!

Where do I start, this is a linear adventure puzzle game, you play as a girl called Rani who after an accident looses her arm and replaces it with a suction machine she calls Pumpkin, you and your crew mate Becks land on an alien planet in search of energy. As you land you come across this blackish red floating gunk and as you clear it up nature comes back to life. So from there the adventure begins, I won't spoil anymore as it's not the longest game, probably about 5-10 hours of gameplay but I can say I enjoyed every hour of it.

Music 8/10 Game design 8/10 Voice acting 9/10.

A Boy Called Christmas
(2021)

Where do I start?
Here we have another Christmas film coming out just in time for Christmas, I'll start with the positives, all-round decent acting considering the young cast, Maggie Smith is lovely, and my favourite character, also really enjoyed the family at the start. The CGI is outstanding, music and scenery is also mesmerizing. Also a little shout out to Stephen Merchant as Meeka, funniest character.

Now to the bad, story wise it was quite bland. The whole kingdom needs hope and magic is overused, and the answer just being if a child gets a toy once a year then everything is just dandy again... I'm not that bothered about political correctness and inclusion, but it does feel abit forced in this with all the elf's being a mix of races. The two worst miskakes however, is 1. The completely unnecessary death of his father, could easily have cut the rope and jumped of the sled. And 2. The main antagonist witch elf, who clearly has power issues, is somehow just forgiven for her wickedness....

The Last of the Mohicans
(1992)

Michael Mann oh man this was good
The story follows Nathaniel Poe (Day-Lewis) and his adopted family of Mohicans as they encounter two sister and come to their rescue, creating a love bond between Nathaniel and the older sister Cora.(Madeleine Stowe) The story is engaging, well put together with witty and interesting characters, the action scenes are realistic and well put together, the score and locations are beautiful and the final ten minutes after leaving the Huron village is in my opinion one of the best 10 minutes of film ever made.

Cruella
(2021)

Cruella reimagined
Fun and entertaining film, with excellent performances all around, the film doesn't work well as a prequel but more as a stand alone reimagining of cruella. The story sucks you in and there was some excellent and funny gags as Cruella and the baroness went toe to toe, I originally I felt this film deserved a strong 8/10 but the ending really let it down, last 15 minutes just ruined the whole story really.. hence my final rating 6/10.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw
(2019)

Unrealistic garbage, but thrilling none the less
Alright here we go. Storywise it's nothing to brag about, the typical end of the world scenario and our main men have to save the day, the action scenes go from cool, to slightly over the top to downright idiotic and fake looking. It has some funny scenes and a great cast and and a few gimmicks that I enjoyed.(won't spoil them here) all in all I can't give this more than a 6/10 this film is for those who just wanna watch action and distract them selves from your daily lives

Holidate
(2020)

Just what you expect, but so what?
This has all the cliches and tropes of all other romcoms, but it's a genuine sweet movie, with fun characters, will it get an Oscar nom? Definitely not, but as a feel good film I would highly recommend it.

Love Wedding Repeat
(2020)

A perfect "forget about your life for an hour or two" film
I really don't get the low rating here, I have not got a single complaint about the movie, it's a romantic comedy with a great cast, I found myself laughing throughout the movie, is it gonna get an Oscar nomination? No, but if you want distract your self from life and have a little laugh this is a perfect pick.

Cursed
(2020)

I managed to get through it.
Unlike many leaving a review I have seen the whole first season but i have not got many positive things to say...

the casting isnt great, the few standouts would have to be Gustaf Skarsgård and Emily Coates. the rest are just abit lackluster, however the lead actress Kathrine Langford is i feel a terrible choice, she posseses none of the traits of a powerful witch and im sorry to say her physique is nowhere near good enough, the fight scenes are ruined by poor choreography and Kathrine thats just slugish, it looks like she has never held a sword in her life.

the costumes and setting is also not up to scratch, the sets and costumes look to new and fresh, it looks like the builings were made yesterday and the clothes are unwarn, breaks the realism. the show also is very poor at engaging the viewer with the world were in, i cant remeber seeing a single map of any kind to make it easier for me to understand where these places are in comparison to one another, everything seems like its a days ride.

the CGI was awful, from the wolves, to the guy getting chopped in half and dont get me started on the poor spurts of blood that looed fake in every fight.

the fighting and action pieces. I have already said how poor Kathrine is but the rest of the choreography isnt much better, the weeping monk doing random flips all the time, to his fight with the trinisty guard, where he effortlessly cuts down a handful of guards one second, the next 5 guards just take him out in 3 seconds and almost kill him, and then 10 seconds later he manages to kill them all again super effortlessly, looks incredibly stupid!!!

the story aswell is abit of a mess, the show starts with Nimue being hated by the fay and her hating them, then after the attack and she finds the sword she loves her people and they love her and crown her queen of the fey. the story seems like it wants to be a dark and interesting fantasy adventure but it swaps from being a dark and serious story to a teenage love drama at times, which feels out of place. Throughout the series there is also so many scenes that did follow logic. the red pool: why did they all of a sudden need to take a bath when they were under strict orders to bring the sword, why did they leave the sword unguarded. why did they seek refuge in the mill when they knew the mill didnt have any exits and they would be trapped in there instead of just running into the forrest. or in the last scenes where Nimue is shot by Iris, she falls to her knees and for no reason she just leans/falls of the edge atleast make it so the impact of the arrow makes her stuble of the edge...

in conclusion, the show is just interesting enough for me to have finished it, but i will not be watching later seasons if more are made, this is only watchable as a show if you just want som action and something to ditract you from you day to day doings, if you take shows seriously then this show will annoy you.

True Detective
(2014)

Great show, pleasure to watch!
let me just start by saying to the people that give season 2 a bad rep after watching just 1/2/3 episodes, watch the whole thing before you criticize.

season 1 has a great case with lots of exiting plot points in the story, and between Harrelson and Mcconaughey characters. Great acting all around in the first season. Not much to complain about.

season 2 has a slower beginning, and more disappointing case, and I feel the main focal point is on the characters stories not on the case. Colin Farrel is the best thing about season 2, I think he plays his role perfectly,he looks just like an alcoholic warn down man on the verge of losing everything he has, Vince Vaughn has a great character, you really feel his struggles as well. Mcadams and Kitsch feel a little bland and miss placed although i really like Kitschs backstory.

The biggest difference is obviously the endings, with season 1 almost what i would call a fairytale ending, they catch the bad guy and become friends again and all is well. (except for the mayor not getting caught) And season 2 goes down a darker path with three quarters of the main cast dying in the last episode.

sorry about the bad English it's not my first language.

The Good Dinosaur
(2015)

Nothing new, but still great!
reading the other reviews about this film i can barely believe my eyes! all of you are complaining about it being to violent and having bad influences on kids but it is one of only 4 Pixar movies with a PG rating which should tell you it might be a little darker than other Pixar films.

but here is m review, The film revolves around a little scared dinosaur named Arlo and i think Arlo represents many of the kids in our modern society, in the film they bring problems like Loneliness, not feeling like you belong, the importance of family, death, conquering you're fears into the light. The scene near the end where Arlo lets Spot go and join his new family was really really touching. for those complaining that the plot is too simple, remember that it is in facts a kids movie its supposed to be, its not a film that you sit down and think about hours on end after viewing it, it'something you enjoy there and then.

all in all I really enjoyed the movie, it had me laughing at times and had me crying at times.
