South Park: Joining the Panderverse
(2023)

Still manages to amaze
It is tough for a show that's been running this long to stay relevant, insightful and just the right amount of edgy. The Pandemic Specials and other installations of the newer South Parks have had some visible symptoms of having lost the edge a bit - again understandable - but boy oh boy this one is probably one of the best South Park episodes in a decade.

It manages to poke fun in multiple directions at the same time and most importantly dishes out some poignant, valid critique at the industry. B-plot was a bit meh and Randy sure has gone a pretty harsh Flanderisation but it's still entertaining enough.

Sure it's going to anger a lot of people and seems to have already done so but to me that is exactly the point of South Park. These episodes is why I watch this show.

Peacemaker
(2022)

A positive surprise
It kinda does what The Boys did but it does not do it quite so well. Still, Peacemaker gets better with each episode so even if it starts out with severe tonal issues the show is surely worth a watch.

My biggest "issue" is the humour and sometimes off-putting characters but again that gets better after a while. It's kinda like Gunn is doing what he did with Guardians, but in a much more gruesome world - this does sometimes manifest itself with jarring tonal dissonance. There is also the "mandatory" social justice stuff that's sometimes written well and sometimes it's just there as it usually is. It's nothing that bad though and as mentioned the show seems to grow into itself towards the end and the writing seems to find it's own lane.

Even though using music from established bands and artists is almost a cliche at this point in superhero movies and TV-shows the soundtrack is still pretty damn good and used well with just a few exceptions.

Looking forward to season 2.

Futurama: Rage Against the Vaccine
(2023)
Episode 7, Season 11

Please be silent and return my money once again
Kinda curious that imdb deleted my review and now I have to post it again. I wonder why the deletion tho. I wonder if it was due to mentioning ESG

Just atrocious. Worse than what happened to the simpsons.

The earlier episodes this season have been okay at best compared to the edge the original had but this episode actually hurt to watch.

Futurama used to have brilliant societal commentary. Now it's whatever this is. It being late is obviously sort of understandable since they could've not predicted that the pandemic would end but the thing is: covid jokes were not fun or inventive even during the pandemic. They were the worst of both millenial and boomer humor. Doing an entire episode of it just SCREAMS the effect of the ESG-rating on what kind of scripts are nowadays mandatory to get your project made.

This makes me sad. In oh, so many ways.
