Poor Things
(2023)

Appalling while appealing
Appalling while appealing, disturbing, and thought-provoking, this film could arguably be Lanthimos' best work to date.

Centered around the theme of women's right to self-determination in a male-dominated world, the protagonist, surrounded predominantly by men, including her strict creator, uptight fiancé, adventurous boyfriend, dangerous friend, terrible husband, and clients, navigates through their attempts to use her. Despite their efforts, she consistently finds ways to benefit from them while asserting her independence. Her journey of self-discovery unveils the myriad forms of love, often concealing sinister intentions beneath its facade.

Queen of Versailles Reigns Again
(2022)

Interesting and funny
Interesting and entertaining show for interior design and architecture enthusiasts. The Sieglers have been attempting to build USA's largest family home for 20 years. Due to financial obstacles they had to postpone their plans, but now Jackie is more than determined to finish the house.

Every detail on Vesailles grandiosity mirrors perfectly Jackie's vain character. Apart from vain, she is also quite funny, even though she seems to deal with problems bigger than one can think a rich woman like her can have. Personally, I think that she diverts her attention from her pain to her luxury life problems. Most of us cannot afford to even think of the things that stress her during the show, but those are not really why the Queen of Versailles is sad.

Where the Heart Is
(2000)

Too heavy and sad
This movie is neither a comedy nor a romance. Just drama. Lots of it. If you appreciate this type of movies, it's worth a watch. Don't be mislead by the genre description.

I didn't laugh with anything (and how could I in all that negativity) and the romance is totally absent for the first 90 minutes. Even when it happens, it feels like the protagonist is not really in love with the guy, but just settles for someone who is nice.

Everything terrible that can happen in society happens in those womens lives. I would appreciate fewer tragic incidents, they could have for sure left something out.

Apart from sad, the plot fails to cover the lives of all the main characters. It is possible that fewer main characters were needed.

The acting is good and I enjoyed seeing Portman so young.

Sympetheroi apo ta Tirana
(2021)

The epitome of original greek sense of humor.
No limits to this one's jokes. I loved both the acting and the punchlines! Hatzipaniagiotis, Lekaki, Reppas and Vogiatzaki are giving their 100 per cent and the outcome is pure gold! They put to shame all the other actors.

To anyone who finds some of the jokes offensive: You're the reason art has become tasteless and boring. Finally this show made me REALLY laugh. Sometimes hysterically, I will admit.

The plot though was almost non existent and there was no proper ending-closure. This comedy deserved better, but I totally suggest it if you are in need of a good laugh!

I hope Reppas and Papathanasiou will share more of their comedy on the TV.

Mysterious and entertaining.
Good mystery show, which has to do with sin, anger and its consequences. Watching this show will make you reconsider the notion of guilt and who is guilty. It never fails to grasp your attention and remains a mystery until the end.

The beautiful scenery gives a scent of serenity in the desperate lives of the people the story revolves around. The show consists of mostly the main characters, but they are many and introduced in a way that you might find it hard to understand the kinship between them. There are some actors who stand out, but don't expect high performances. Unfortunately the best actors are not given many chances to show off their talent, while there are actors who could have done a lot better.

The show deals with family issues, betrayal, lgbtq, human trafficking, pedophilia and other issues that may be too many for a short TV series to handle. Therefore, it fails to make a point each time and feels like some of them are forced in a story that they don't fit into.

Enjoyable short TV series to watch during the summer!!!
