3 Body Problem
(2024)

Magic in the eye of the beholder
Amazing how different the reviews are. Goes to show that it´s all in the eye of the beholder. If a show is 100% 1:1 on the basis material, why not just stick to the book? The characters in there are eminent beyond any adaptation, as they are your own creations. It is the magic stuff that cannot be replaced by any TV show or movie. So in reality, the ones reviewing based on truthfulness toward the books are pointing to something no-one can ever see; their own personal inner show. So far, the production is top notch, the actors doing a marvelous job and the whole tension build-up of the show feels very well made.

Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire
(2023)

1star because 0 is not possible
I have seen Watchmen a few times and loved it, because the adaptation of a comic into live action was wellmade. Snyder actually has that gift, but rarely puts is to real use.

I saw 25 mins of this and had to leave it. Still in awe that someone has financed it. Nice scenery and beautiful people just cannot cut it.

The complete absence of a decent storyline and the total overuse of slow-fast motion bears witness of laziness.

I felt like I was watching a huge chunk of money being burned on a stake of fan made attempts that someone had tried to compile into one big thing. I just don't get it. The SW inspiration is clearly there, but why even try?

Billions
(2016)

(Season 6) Not sure about Stoll though
I loved all of it untill now. 5 seasons of narcissistic fun. Giamatti is an unparalleled actor and he alone has me by the cojones. Now, without Lewis, I am not sure if it holds up. Stoll is solid, but I just loved Lewis' badass psycopath. Can he really replace that and with what?

I will hang on for Giamatti, but they have to step it up. Otherwise it might die out soon.

Yellowjackets
(2021)

Lynskey & Lewis & Ricci!
This little thing was recommended to me by my son. I am not the biggest of horror fans or teenage stuff. But this is not that.

This is a VERY well told story and has superior acting first by Lynskey and Lewis and Ricci, and the rest are doing great. Beautifully filmed as well.

Go beyond the pilot and get ready for some quality storytelling!

The Matrix Resurrections
(2021)

The stars are all for the first half.
The second half litterally ruins the whole concept and is a manifestation of true laziness from the director and team.

They COULD have written a great story and executed it beautifully with all the latest film-tech. In stead they turned it into a pseudo-zombie chase with no real ending, other than the lovestory between the two protagonists.

Sad for a superfan who loved the two first movies and lived with the third, and all its obvious flaws.

This is a cash cow and nothing else.

Succession
(2018)

Amazing acting
These guys act the sh"&*t out in this series. Brian Cox does the old job sweet, but the other, younger guys; especially the "Young studs" at Waystar do an amazing job; they really feel like completely believable Corporate ass holes. Not as fun as Billions, but still up there.

Were it not for the slow pace, they would waste the good stuff.

Very well written too.

I am all in for more.

Red Notice
(2021)

All that money
They must have gotten paid really big money.

Why else do this?

This thing is a bad copy of the early heist flicks that were actually fun to watch.

Even the ones with poor acting.

This one puzzles.

Why???!

Dune
(2021)

On second watch I fell asleep
Edit to my original review.

I tried watching it again at home, in order to see if I would stay awake this time. I did in fact fall asleep again. The ever blowing horns and that über slow pace, for which there is no apparent reason, makes for a really boring film.

Yes, it is grand and the scope is huge.

But in a time when sci-fi has come so far, this thing takes itself far too serious. Another Jesus story from back in the day, that someone think we need. Not so sure why, honestly.

Master of None
(2015)

The first two seasons are magic. The third is...???
Watching season 3, I feel uncertain if they are serious or just making fun if me. It's a completely different show and not for the better.

Litterately have zero idea why they made it.

High Fidelity
(2020)

Crazy sweet and worth every minute
An absolute must-see if you love music and enjoy a good story. Very well adapted and produced. The characters are fun and the whole setup is put together cleverly. Zoe K. Makes a brilliant lead and the rest of the crew around her just adds to the joy.

The change of gender for the lead character is spot on and works way better than the movie version.

The whole deal manages to capture the undertones and it all comes together as one of the best little series this year.

I binged the whole thing in one and loved every minute.

The Mandalorian
(2019)

Space western for SW geeks
I've been a SW fan since the first ones came to the Big screen. While some of the stuff that has come out over the years has been of doubtful quality, I still think the acting and overall story telling has improved over time. This series was not on my radar untill my grown son said I had to watch it. It's a space western set in the SW universe, and it's really well made. The acting is by far some of the best in SW terms and the whole setup is quite refreshing. While all the trilogies basically tell the same story over and over, this has an original twist and that alone is worth the watch. The gritty look suits the series and makes it even more fun. Jon Favrou had done a fine job here.

The Queen's Gambit
(2020)

Brilliant
The original novel by Tevis is by far the best chess story written, also for people as I who know little about the game. This adaption is just as amazing. The lead character is played with masterful grace and beauty. Everything about it is top shelf.

Cobra Kai
(2018)

For the fun alone
Had this series taken the drama route, like the original did, it would never have worket. Instead it goes all 80's kitch coupled with today and stacks up on making it fun. And it is hilarious. For those of us who were young and saw the original in theatres, this is a way to revisit the past and have a laugh while doing it. This is a comedy show. And it actually works.

Oscuro deseo

Not a new story
This story has been told before, and better. Some of the acting is ok, some quite terrible. Lots of sex for no apparent reason, other than displaying the beautiful female lead. Fair enough, this is also not new. Still enjoyable if expectations are kept accordingly.

The Umbrella Academy
(2019)

Does not get much better than this
Hands down one of the best super hero shows. HBO's Watchmen notwithstanding.

Warrior Nun
(2020)

No dice
Thought the premise sounded fun but it's really just a show for little girls.

Dating Around
(2019)

The fakest of fakes
The fun part is how fake it all is. But like small movies, it's well produced and filmed. But man it's fake.

Goliath
(2016)

Courtroom Californication
Whats not to like? Billy Bob Thornton and William Hurt. And the women in this show simply are just as badass. Like Californication In a courtroom!

StartUp
(2016)

Late to the show but MAN!
This was the best thing to catch my eye this year so far. Even though I came late to the show, I swollowed all 3 seasons in no time. Amazing cast, super high stakes thrill all the way. Keep you on the edge of the couch every episode. Very very good television.

Noughts + Crosses
(2020)

Quite good indeed
Didnt know there were books, Wonder how it fares as a read. - but nevertheless find the plot rather good and entertaining.

Uncut Gems
(2019)

Emperor's clothes or what dont I get?
To me, this was an almost stressful experience. Two hours of shouting and anger, in a story with little new to add. Sandler is basically an aggressive, desperate and sad version of the same character, he's always been. What is new, except the outfits?

Tell Me a Story
(2018)

Political hmm..
Not sure if I am getting this right, but being European, this is not about poliitics for me. The plot is pretty good and there are some good lines intertwining, so far so good. The fairytale part I dont really see in other than hints, but they are subtle and not that clear. Still I like it a lot.
