Mulholland Dr.
(2001)

Too good to describe
This film is not just outstanding; it is, in my opinion, the definitive film, the single greatest accomplishment in the history of Cinema. Lynch manages to create an atmosphere that is so unique, so full of unease yet so bittersweet and picturesque. Weaving all the elements that make for a great film, Lynch creates with panache a story of such depth that to many it seems incomprehensible. In truth, the film is so amazingly ambiguous that indeed any body can interpret what is seen and make a legitimate story. That is the beauty of Mulholland Dr. Making a brilliant statement on society and the movie-industry, Mulholland Dr. manages to enthrall and enchant. Unique, amazing, poignant, courageous and unbridled, this is a true mile-stone.

Bridget Jones's Diary
(2001)

simply fantastic
What is it that makes Bridget Jones's Diary such an addictive film? Perhaps it's the great combination of wit, reflection, self-analysis, drama, romance and sheer hilarious situations. This is the story of Bridget, a very real British woman with many issues, mainly weight and romance related. Greatly portrayed by Renee Zellweger, Bridget is both witty and interesting, making for a purely enjoyable film. I first watched this film when it was released in 2001. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Three years later, I gave it my second viewing, and since then, I must have watched it over 100 times. I honestly can say that this is the ONLY film I can watch everyday if given the opportunity. Although not the best film, and perhaps without much depth (not to say none), Bridget Jones's diary is somehow addictive and absolutely enjoyable. Definitely set to be a classic, this is a film that all people should view at least once, not because it's philosophical or because it makes stunning comments on society, but because it is simply fantastically entertaining.

Lost Things
(2003)

Captivating and unique
How marvelous to see an entertaining and thoughtful horror film come from Australia! As a regular moviegoer, and an Australian, I love watching all sorts of Australian films. I was lucky enough to see a special screening of lost things last year, which included a discussion with the director and various crew members. I must admit that, at first, I found lost things to be quite ridiculous. Some dialog seemed strange and there were some wobbly acting moments. But quite soon after-wards, I was really drawn in by the stunning landscape, and as the plot began to thicken, I was truly captivated. "Lost Things" was an enchanting experience, and most importantly, it was a horror film which managed to, in some respect, defy the genre, by placing itself in the beautiful Australian beach landscape by day. Also amazing was the twist. A horror film that made me think! Definitely not your usual "slasher flick," Lost things wasn't a "Look Both Ways" or "Little Fish," but was most definitely a considerable achievement.

Pretty Woman
(1990)

well-rounded, simple and entertaining.
"Pretty Woman" is an interesting fairy-tale-romance film. Although some elements seem just too unlikely, the film manages to capture the viewer and entertains greatly. Whilst the film has no real substance-not really any message- it never fails to achieve its purpose, and that is to entertain. Julia Roberts gives a decent performance as the innocent hooker who by luck transforms into an elegant woman. Perhaps the film shows that even the most sharp of thorns, a prostitute, can indeed change for the better. Unfortunately, as with most "rom-coms", the film is riddled with clichés, but always a certain uniqueness is present. Most elements are perfectly sound, acting and directing challenges are well met, however the film never excels in any particular way, which perhaps has led to its' success- a well-rounded simple film that almost any person can watch, and, however mildly, enjoy.

Elizabethtown
(2005)

A touching delineation of romance.
Watching Elizabethtown gave me a great sense of satisfaction. I think it is fair to say that every single aspect of the film was magnificent bar one: Orlando Bloom. When we commenced watching this film, my friend whispered to me "See his face now? His expression won't change for the whole film"-and it seldom did. Now I'm not saying that Bloom is "razzie" material, he is not, as such, a bad actor, but he really can't portray more than one emotion. I am absolutely positive that a much more suitable lead with a much greater acting range would have been possible. For the life of me I cannot understand why Bloom was signed on for this film. I was, almost, able to overlook Blooms acting and enjoy the film for what it was; which is a credit to Crow's fine directing. This is a touching delineation of romance, full of poignant moments and hilarious situations. Wonderfully shot, amazingly acted and with great panache this is a film that should not be overlooked-even considering a certain someone's "ability"

Little Oberon
(2005)

good.
This was a good little television feature, which I viewed last night. As a film generally this wasn't so great, however, as a made-for-television film it was actually quite top-notch. Some characters tended to suffer from becoming stereotyped, and often acting in supporting/extra roles was quite dull, much to be expected from a Television film. It was enjoyable to watch, however, as it was quite well paced and captured my attention for the duration of the film. I found the religious theme perhaps became an oxymoron; the young girl seemingly turning to Christianity while embracing her more "wiccan" psychic visions and mother. Perhaps a little more thought towards aspects of believability would have made this film better, along with better directing.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
(2005)

Thoroughly painful.
I admit to almost falling asleep during this horrid movie. The only reason I didn't fall asleep was due to the constant noise of laser guns. Mnyeeeeehmnyeeeeehbooombabababooomboooooooom. -If you find that last sentence immature then don't watch this film, as that is all you should expect from it. Sure, this film has a decent plot and the acting is okay, that's why it gets 3 stars from me. But the film fails on all levels to convince me that this is true. I know it is a work of fiction, but when I am in a cinema I can truly believe a movie is real for the time I am in there if it captures me. Star Wars simply didn't. Lucas seems to be hoping that most viewers are die-hard fans who simply want to see some fighting. This film was all one messed up jumble of random robots and random characters with random head shapes. Appalling and highly disappointing.
