Utah Blaine
(1957)

I Liked It
I love Rory Calhoun. Especially the guns he wears in this movie. I love Westerns. Especially when it comes to the Christian values that are long gone in this country today. Two of my favorites were The Rifleman and Bonanza where you would hear frequent and "liberal" (pun intended) mentions of "God", "prayer" and "the Bible".

And when it comes to the background music in Utah Blaine, isn't that the same as what was in a Glenn Ford movie? I can't remember the name.

The Promise
(2016)

One Word "Islam"
I just read an article:

"The Promise": The Armenian Genocide Epic Kirk Kerkorian Spent a Fortune to Make By Brent Lang. And I came across this:

There were no public protests at the Toronto premiere, but there is already evidence of a propaganda campaign to discredit "The Promise." The film's IMDb page has received more than 86,000 user votes, the bulk of them one-star ratings, despite the fact that the movie has had only three public screenings. That's more user reviews than appear for "Finding Dory," the highest-grossing film of the year. The filmmakers say reaction on social platforms has been equally intense.

"The day after we screened the movie, 70,000 people went on IMDb and said they didn't like the movie," says Mike Medavoy, one of the film's producers. "There's no way that many people saw the movie after one screening. There aren't that many seats in the theater."

Judging from the trailer I just saw this is going to be a great movie and I can't wait to see it.

If you want to understand why there are seemingly "negative reviews" from "ghosts" I would strongly urge you to get informed on the issues.

You're pretty much seeing the same kind of underhanded campaigns that is done against Israel. And the best places to find out about the Israel and the Armenian issue is to frequent websites like the Middle East Forum, the Middle East Quarterly, Jihad Watch, the Gatestone Institute and FrontPage magazine. Truly, otherwise you wont' have a clue.

Just like the negativity about this movie is coming from elements of the Turkish government and those Muslims sympathetic to them, The Jew hatred you're seeing on our college campuses and now spreading across the country is coming from Islamic antisemtism. Specifically groups like the Muslim Student Association (MSA) the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and the Council on American Islamic Relations(CAIR) who are all directly associated with the the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas.

Now I have absolutely no shame when it comes to posting these facts. Hollywood has jumped on the Bash Trump bandwagon as well as many celebrities who are not only bashing Trump but also slandering Jews and Israel. So all bets are off as far as that's concerned.

As for IMBd they should do a better job of screening these votes as anybody with a brain can see that these overwhelming amount of negative "reviews" are a complete farce. And from what I can see of the comments there are people with good sense that are seeing right through it. Like this one: "It makes me sick all the negative reviews this film is getting by Turks who are too brainwashed to know and accept what really happened over 100 years ago."

And this:

"It is currently April 2, 2017. This movie has had 3 screenings and has not been out yet. Yet it has 92000 reviews with a 4.2 rating. Moonlight, which in February won the academy award for best picture and has been out for months has 117,000 reviews as of today. Do you think that maybe there is a consipiracy to try to sabotage this movie because the Turks do not want people to know what happened during the Armenian Genocide? They are stuffing the ratings with bad reviews so that people don't see this movie. The review organizations should better monitor their sites to get accurate reviews. A disgrace."

And this:

"Fort those of you who are not in the know; a group of Internet trolls gathering on a Turkish message board decided to try sinking "The Promise" with bad reviews before it even came out. The movie is about the Armenian genocide that occurred under the Ottoman empire. Turkey, in a failed effort to cover up their crime, is denying the atrocities out of sheer hypocrisy"

And this:

"As a Turk I was told that Armenian Genocide was a lie. After some research I couldn't actually find any proof to suggest it as well and what we learned made more sense than the genocide. Anyway lie or not I don't think voting bad to prevent this movie to go big screen is just useless. Yes this may be just propaganda but history is never one sided so let people learn"

Today there is the mass murder of Christians by Muslims on a scale not seen since the Armenian Genocide. And it's a total blackout when it comes to the mainstream media and our politicians. Read Raymond Ibrahim's book, Crucified Again and his series of articles about the atrocities being inflicted all over the world against Christians by Muslims.

The Armenian Genocide was the mass murder of Christians by Muslims.

It was only luck that brought me out of my laziness to learn about these issues. I happened to read a novel: The Haj by Leon Uris. About the birth of the State of Israel and right after another book; Because They Hate by Brigitte Gabriel. A book written by a Lebanese Christian. For some reason a light turned on.

This last commenter had it right; "Let people learn".

Columbo: Columbo and the Murder of a Rock Star
(1991)
Episode 3, Season 10

Alibi
SPOILER ALERT!!!

I'm confused. How did that gal act as an alibi AFTER the fact?

During the murder he had no accomplice. His law partner blackmailed him AFTER the crime. Can someone explain this to me. I don't see this in goofs or continuity.

Goofs or not Columbo always gets a "10" with me. I've got most of the DVD's up to Season Seven.

Well, I need "10 lines of text" in order to submit this review.

Maybe one of these days they will come up with the technology to make movies and add deceased actors acting the way they did in their classic movies in the movies of the 40's and 50's that I love so much.

I'd like to see this with Columbo episodes.

I commented elsewhere about the Zatichi series; that they're as (re) watchable as Columbo episodes.

I've even stolen quotes from shows like the one that goes "He'd even find flaws in the Old Testament" when I was commenting on Islamic political issues comparing the Koran with the Bible as far as consistency.

Well, I hope that's enough.

Elementary
(2012)

Huh?
I bought the first season. I'm currently watching "The Red Team". I keep checking to see if something's wrong with my laptop. It's like the characters, especially Holmes, suddenly became retarded or something. I go back and forth to You Tube and don't see anything wrong with the sound there. The speech is almost slurred. At least it seems like it. Sherlock sounds like he's on drugs and sounds barely coherent. I'm wondering if this is what the rest of it is going to be like. I asked ten people at Staples where I bought this if they'd seen it before I ran into one person who'd even seen it and told me that it picks up after the second episode. So far it's going downhill....fast.

Hopefully when I'm done with this first season I can come back and revise my review. Or actually; "question". Is this what I've got to look forward to? Really; somebody please tell me.

Also, as a general comment, I've found that movies today absolutely suck when it comes understanding what the actors are saying. I have no problem understanding movies from the 40's and 50's. Today the actors seem like they're talking with a mouth full of marbles. That's when you can hear them above the music and explosions.

Zatôichi
(2003)

A complete dud.
Any one of the Shintarô Katsu Zatoichis was better than this disappointment. The guy had the personality of... ....well, he just didn't have one. I'm trying to remember; did this guy say anything in this movie? Mostly it was a bunch of grunts and stupid laughter. I was actually going to buy the DVD until I was able to download it via Torrent. (Thank You GOD!)The whole movie, for me, was waiting for something to happen. Some improvement on the old Zatoichi. And the "plot"...? Really, the only reason you want to watch this is to confirm how much better the old movies were, which I'm now on my second round. There will be no next time for this movie.

I went ahead and clicked the "spoiler" button. I'm not sure whether this qualifies as a "spoiler" but hopefully it will give people a heads up before they waste their money on a DVD.

Il gladiatore invincibile
(1961)

"Rome"
This movie was great. I got clued into this movie from Harrison's "Vengeance". Another GREAT movie.(For the first twenty minutes I was waiting for Richard "Harris" to appear. Duh.) Also I didn't know Harrison was the guy who suggested Clint Eastwood to Leone... ...until I learned it here. How bout that.

If you're both a movie buff and into "Roman" stuff Michael Curtis Ford's "Gods and Legions is the book to read. If you're into history I suggest you get Ammianus Marcellinus' History to read along with this novel. The ass kicker here is that Marcellinus actually went to battle with Emperor Julian. The 3-Volume Loeb Classic is almost an adventure novel all by itself.

As far as Gladiators go a couple of "definitive" books are The Way of the Gladiator by Daniel P. Mannix and Spartacus by Howard Fast. Here are books from my library. Ass kickers every one.

Ammianus Marcellinus History The Battle for Gaul by Julius Caesar The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon The Way of the Gladiator by Daniel P. Mannix Spartacus by Howard Fast Julian by Gore Vidal Gods and Legions by Michael Curtis Ford The Ten Thousand by Michael Curtis Ford The Last King by Michael Curtis Ford The Sword of Attila by Michael Curtis Ford The Fall of Rome by Michael Curtis Ford Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield Tides of War by Steven Pressfield The Virtures of War Steven Pressfield Alexaneder the Great by Paul Cartledge The Spartans by Paul Cartledge Eagle in the Snow by Wallace Breem The Eagle and the Raven by Pauline Gedge
