Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead
(2009)

A Step Down From 2, But More Beefed Up Than 1
So, with Wrong Turn 2 raising the bar higher than the first, you'd expect the 3rd to be as good. Well, when I initially first seen this back in 2013 (I think), I was disappointed with it. Now, after watching a few more times, I've appreciated more than what I first did, although I still feel it falls short of the 2nd entry, but is better than the first.

When their transfer bus crashes in a West Virginia forest, a group of convicts & a corrections officer meet a rafter who is on the run from cannibalistic hillbillies who have murdered her friends. The convicts, corrections officer & rafter find themselves at the mercy of the hillbilly inbreds who will stop at nothing to get their prey.

I found the film to be good, it's not amazing good, but it's good all the same. It's a step down from Wrong Turn 2: Dead End as the effects & some of the deaths are that good, but only a few are like that as this film did, to be fair, have some good creative deaths despite the slightly crappy effects.

The story is interesting here, though there's not a lot to it, which is fine because we're here to see the hillbilly inbreds wreak mayhem. The story is different being the cast are mostly convicts, officers & some rafter victims.

The opening was good & featured some eye candy. There's plenty of gore, graphic scenes & violence to be had here. The hillbillies are well done too with the make up effects & portrayal, though there's not as many here in this entry. The ending was good, if not bitter sweet.

The films runtime is good at 1 hour & 25 minutes & there's some good pacing as well. The film is better than part 1, even though part 1 is good in itself, but this film improves & beefs up the body count & violence more here. Though compared to part 2, it doesn't quite cut it.

Overall, it's a so-so to good 3rd entry, don't expect too much, switch off & enjoy. This isn't a bad sequel.

Abigail
(2024)

A Mixed Bag
So, having only seen a few previews for this, I was sort of half & half as to whether this would be any good or not.

The film sees a group of criminals who kidnap the ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure. With the promise of £7 Million each for babysitting the girl until her father pays up, they retreat to an isolated mansion, unaware that they're locked inside with no normal little girl. It is then the true horror of what is going on quickly unfolds into a deadly bloodbath of survival.

I found the film to be pretty good. But pretty weird & out there too. It's got an ok story line & a sort of unique concept. It's gory, very very, very gory! So, not for the faint hearted! It's not necessarily graphic as such in terms of guts & innards, but there is plenty of blood splashing gore which was a plus for me!

There's plenty of familiar actors here, so that's good & they do well with their respective roles. There's some scary visuals & horrific scenes too as well as some good scoring by Bryan Tyler. With some good eye candy & humour added in for good measure, the film is pretty watchable.

The films pacing is good until the end where it does get annoying slow & dragging like. The runtime isn't bad at 1 hour & 45 minutes (105 minutes), but could've had a good 10 - 15 minutes shaved off to make it faster paced.

I also found the excessive screaming & sound to be deafening too! I mean, we get it, she's a vampire, but does she have to scream that much!? & also, does it have to be so deafeningly loud!? As with the editing & pacing, that was also an issue that could've been fixed!

Try to make the sound not so punishing on your audiences ears next time ok!? Jeez! Anyway, aside from that the film was good & had an alright but annoying ending... another female soul survivor ending, of course that & she was bitten by a vampire so not quite the survival happy ending I guess.

Overall, it's a good film, but not amazing & could've used some work! I'd give it a watch, but it's pretty overrated for what it is if you ask me! It's a mixed bag of a film...

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End
(2007)

Raw & Brutal!
Saw this years ago & recently have watched it & found it to still be good!

A group of Reality Show contestants find themselves fighting for their survival against a family of hideously deformed inbred cannibals who plan to ruthlessly butcher them all! Will any of them be left!?

I found the film to be raw & brutal! It's twice as gory & twice as brutal as the first one which is good by the way & great, but this film elevates it a bigger body count & more gory, graphic violence!

The films runtime is longer here at 1 hour & 30 minutes (90 minutes) & there's more to the story also! The film expands on the Hillbilly Inbred Family & expands on the first film! There's also some eye candy too!

The pacing is pretty good despite the film being a tad bit long for what it is, but that's not too bad as there's plenty of action going on as well as some Easter Eggs referencing other slasher Grinder House Horror Flicks of the 1970's & 80's!

Overall, it's a sequel that slightly edges out the 2003 original! While the original is good, there's more going on here in this flick & the Game Show approach combined with a higher body count, twice the gore & action & graphics & of course the eye candy, makes this a pretty ace sequel!

UK Release: 7th January 2008!

Back to Black
(2024)

Pretty Good Autobiography!
So, I went into this one knowing it would be decent as I like Amy Winehouse's music & was pretty sadden when I was a 16 year old, to hear the tragic loss of the singer back in 2011. It was sad as she was pretty talented & so young also at only 27 years of age.

The film follows the rise & fame of British Jazz singer, Amy Winehouse & her great, but also very troubled life leading up to her untimely demise.

I found the film to be pretty good! It's well made, well directed & flows nicely as an autobiography! It's also a pretty sad film too which shows what Amy's life was like before her tragic death at such a young age!

The story was pretty good & well illustrated! The actor playing Amy was good & very convincing as well as the other actors who also played their roles well! There's some humour, drama & sad moments too as well as some eye candy & great music with songs you'll have heard before!

The film doesn't feel long at all & has a decent runtime of 1 hour & 54 minutes which oddly enough doesn't seem long at all as it breezes past! The sort of raw, soap opera type feel of the film & story is pretty engaging & you just keep on watching & watching wanting to see & know more! I didn't particularly follow the singer when I was a teen, but remember her really well & liked her music!

Overall, it's a really good biopic! It's underrated & deserves better reviews! Give this a watch & ignore the critics!

Open Water 3: Cage Dive
(2017)

Pretty Good As Found Footage Films Go!
Seen this back in 2017 when it was released to DVD in the UK under the films proper title Cage Dive! I thought it was good but hadn't seen it in ages! I do recall seeing a trailer prior to its release & thought it looked the business! I recently watched it again at the weekend & still enjoyed it!

The film sees 3 friends filming an audition tape for an extreme reality-TV show find themselves stranded in shark-infested waters, turning their recording into a bloody diary of death! Do they have what it takes to survive the open water!? Especially when there's man eating shark lurking about!

I found the film to be pretty good! Yeah, it lacks a little, has a predictable ending (you sort of know that anyway with these types of films) but it's good & enjoyable! It's 1 hour & 9 minutes in length so it's pretty short & the pacing is pretty good!

The sharks are ace looking & realistic & there's plenty of good scenes despite the film having scenes that were annoying & questionable! As for the found footage format, it works well & the film being stylised as a mockumentary is good also!

Overall, it's one of the few found footage films which is good! A lot of them suck or are just rubbish! This one was a good exception! Give it a watch & enjoy!

7/10.

The Pink Panther
(2006)

Criminally Underrated Film!
Remember seeing this in Cinemas back in 2006 when I was a kid & to be honest, I didn't know what to expect! I'd seen trailers for the film & thought it would be good, but was blown away by how ace it was after! So much so, I went to see it a few more times after & was counting down the days until the 17th July 2006 (Yes! I recall the date well!) for the DVD Re-lease & wore out several copies until the one I now have recently!

Bumbling Inspector Clouseau must solve the murder of a famous soccer coach &find out who stole the infamous Pink Panther diamond!

I found the film to be really good! It's funny, serious & well made! There's some great one-liners, funny scenes of slapstick humour & scenes which will have you rolling in your seat! There's some great scenes of eye candy too with Beyonce (Hottie!) & of course the triumph ending!

The film has a good story-line & twist at the end which while it wasn't entirely the focus because of Inspector Clouseau & his bumbling & hilarious antics, so it takes off the serious edge of the film while maintaining some level of seriousness with the humour! It's a good mix & balance!

The film has some great scenes which you won't be bored by! There's always something funny going on & it's fast paced with a great runtime of 1 hour & 24 minutes! My favourite Scene is the Airport Scene when Inspector Clouseau's bag gets switched at the Airport & gets caught with a bag of weapons & gets arrested for being unable to pronounce Hamburger & keeps saying Damburger! It's ace! The whole film is pretty funny, but that scene is one of my favourites!

Overall, it's an underrated film! It's gets too much hate! I've never seem the Peter Sellers version, so I can't compare, but Steve Martin does steal the show here & does a bang up job! You'll love this film if you sit back & enjoy it! Don't listen to the critics!

Altitude
(2010)

Pretty Good!
I watched this one years ago back in 2012 & haven't seen it in ages until now!

After a mysterious malfunction sends their small plane climbing out of control, a teenage rookie pilot & her 4 teenage friends find themselves trapped in a deadly showdown with a supernatural force!

I found the film to be quite good! It's not amazing, but it's good enough that it's above average, just! There's some creepy visuals & some dark & sinister moments in along with some pretty good graphics! The dark filter effect adds to the films sinister undertone!

The actors do well with their parts & the story, though a bit confusing & hard to understand fully was good & unique! There's some good horror to be had here, along with some eye candy & the films runtime, which is 1 hour & 19 minutes (79 minutes) along with some good pacing!

Overall, it's an enjoyable Horror flick! Give it a watch!

6/10.

Rise of the Footsoldier 4: Marbella
(2019)

A Blast!
So, after seeing the Rise Of The Footsoldier: Vengeance last year in September, I've been collecting the other 5 films & went to watch this one over the weekend!

Fresh out of prison, Pat Tate steps right back into his Essex nightclub business! Since he can't stop brooding about the man who had him put away, it's not long before he's off to Marbella to find Frank Harris & seek his revenge!

I found the film to be quite good! It was an ace fast paced thriller with action, violence & some ace humour too! There's some unintentional funny humour especially with the sweary dialogue! It had me in knots at some points in the film!

The story is good & to the point! The characters are good & the actors do a bang up job at portraying them! The film has a short runtime of 1 hour & 17 minutes (77 minutes) & some good pacing too! There's plenty of violence in the film so you won't be disappointed their either!

Overall, it's a very good film! You'll for sure enjoy it & have a laugh like I did!

8/10.

Monkey Man
(2024)

Mediocre Man
Having seen a brief of previews for this, I wasn't expecting much. Though it looked good & had John Wick Vibes steaming from it, I wasn't particularly bought by this.

An anonymous young man unleashes a campaign of vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother & continue to systemically victimize the poor & powerless.

I found the film to be mediocre. I can't quite describe it, but the film, it feels "out there", vague & pointless to exist. I couldn't get into the film & found the wish washy story hard to follow despite the plot itself being straight forward. It lacked context & engagement to keep me invested.

The film also drags & drags & it way too long & drawn out for what it is. At 1 hour & 54 minutes it's ridiculously long & has poor pacing & this isn't helped with the disengaging direction, the shaky cam & the weird hippy lighting effects & flash backs which came off as more distracting & confusing as a pose to adding context.

The dialogue may as well have been in Chinese. While I got the gist of the film, the dialogue & scenes left me feeling out of the loop & made the film a chore to watch. The action is pretty spot on & reminiscent of the John Wick Films, but they're too few & far between.

Again, the sloppy editing & the drawn out nature of the film don't help with this. The film could've been 90 minutes long without credits. Easy. The characters were good & the actors done a good job a portraying them. There's some gruesome gore to be had here along with some pretty brutal & graphic deaths. There's also some eye candy to be had here too.

The ending wasn't bad, but the pay off just wasn't there. It was a good ending, but left me feeling frustated a little that the film dragged on & on for longer than need be when it could've been faster, intense & tighter.

Overall, the 114 minute film is a John Wick wannabe. It feels too random & lacks context & engagement. You can't care for the main character due to this & find the flash backs chopping & changing between the already stretched out story to be muddying the waters. The fights, violence & gore are good & the only redeeming features here along with the bit of eye candy we get & the characters which weren't bad. But this film could've been much better & is pretty overrated for what it is.

The First Omen
(2024)

Worst Prequel Ever!
Having heard zilch about this film, never mind seen a trailer! I only caught wind of this a few weeks back when looking through upcoming films at my local Odeon Cinema! I thought it might be good given I'd seen the original 4 films & the 2006 remake, all of which were not bad, but not amazing either!

The film sees a young American girl who is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, but encounters a darkness that causes her to question her faith & uncovers a terrifying revelation that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate!

I found the film to be poor! Dire! Tedious & one of the worst films of 2024 alongside Night Swim & Imaginary! Where to start!?

The film for starters took a while to get going! It must've been a good 30-40 minutes before we saw anything horror like, so much so, I had to actually remind myself that I was watching an Omen Film & that there should've been a body count by this point!

The film has far too much boring talky talk & drawn out scenes! The latter which comes off as more annoying than suspenseful! The characters of Margaret & Luz you couldn't tell apart & as if that wasn't confusing enough, the film story & dialogue wasn't clear at all!

The films runtime is far too long & the pacing doesn't help with this making it worse! At 1 hour & 51 minutes, the film is way too long for such a simple story with tedious padding added in for the sake of it!

Scenes involving screaming & giving birth were too prolonged & were 1 out of the 120 scenes that could've been cut down or preferably cut out entirely!

The ending was predictable, but that's to be expected given this is a prequel, which makes the runtime & pacing all the more annoying! Why drag it out!?

Aside from the negatives, the film has some good eye candy, gore & horror scenes! There's not much good to say except the things I mentioned, the actors did a good job with their roles I guess & the sinister undertone was good too!

Overall, it's a poor film! I wouldn't recommend it, but give it a watch, but you will probably not enjoy it! The film could've been cut down to 1 hour & 31 minutes, faster pacing & a more coherent story with characters you can tell apart! Again, it's the worst prequel ever & 1 of the worst Horrors of 2024!

3/10.

The Proposal
(2009)

Great Rom-Com!
Saw this twice in Cinemas back in the day & remember it fondly as being a pretty good film! I had it on DVD for years but hadn't seen it in years, so I got down to watching this film last weekend & still found it to be as funny & as enjoyable as I did when I saw it back in '09!

A pushy boss forces her young assistant to marry her in order to keep her visa status in the U. S. & avoid deportation to Canada!

I found the film to be quite good! It's funny, romantic & enjoyable! Sure, you've probably seen this type of film before & it's cliche in a lot of areas, but what does it matter!? Nothing in life is ever going to be new & groundbreaking & even if the film is predictable shouldn't hinder your enjoyment of it! I found it good & not predictable in any way shape or form!

The film has plenty of humour, one liners & gags you'll laughs, cringe or shake your head at (but in a good way) so it's great there & there's some romance & feel good moments in the film! The runtime is good at 1 hour & 38 minutes (98 minutes) & the pacing is good too! There's some nice scenery & set pieces here too!

The actors do a good job (including the main leads) & there's some good eye candy with Sandra Bullock who looks smoking in this film for a 45 year old! The story in this film is unique & good! You can't complain given how watchable & great it is!

Overall, it's a good that's pretty underrated! Give it a watch & enjoy!

8/10.

War on Everyone
(2016)

Pretty Good Buddy Cop Film!
Saw this back in October of 2016 & found it to be surprisingly good! I wasn't expecting much from this but still went in to see it as it looked like it might be good, it was!

2 corrupt cops set out to blackmail & frame every criminal unfortunate enough to cross their path! Events, however, are complicated by the arrival of someone who appears to be even more dangerous than they are!

I found the film to be a good watch! As I said, I wasn't expecting much from this film as it didn't sell it to me as such! Nonetheless, it looked like it might be good so I gave it a chance & found it to be quite good!

The 2 main leads & the other actors do a good job with their roles & there's plenty of acting, gun fights & even eye candy & gore to be had here, so, you won't be disappointed! The runtime is 1 hour & 29 minutes (89 minutes) & there's good pacing to go with that too!

The story is a little out there & a bit confusing in places, but is straight forward enough & enjoyable! The ending is good & is a satisfying conclusion to the film! There's never a dull moment in the film as there's always something happening around each corner, so it's great in that way! There's funny humour & one liners to go with this too!

Overall, it's a pretty good buddy cop film that still holds up! I haven't seen this film since it's 2016 release, but recently watching it, I still find it to be ace!

8/10.

Ghostbusters
(1984)

Decent Film!
So, finally, I got to see this flick after hearing much about it for years & years! Before seeing this film, I only saw the god awful 2016 remake, Afterlife & Frozen Empire, the later 2 which were enjoyable & pretty good! Even though I'm a particular fan of this franchise, I still enjoyed the latter 2 films as well as this one!

3 parapsychologists forced out of their university funding set up shop as a unique ghost removal service in New York City, attracting frightened yet skeptical customers!

I found the film to be pretty decent! I mean, it's a little cheesy & the effects are a little fake looking, but, it's generally good & even the effects are good for their time! The story is good & straight forward & there's some funny humour added in here too along with some good action scenes!

The actors do a good job here & knock it out the park with their roles & one liners! The film is well paced & has a runtime of 1 hour & 34 minutes (94 minutes), so it isn't too long & drawn out & as I said before, has some good pacing to go along with it!

Overall, it's a good film! Yes, it's a little dated but it's generally a good sci-fi supernatural action flick with some pretty good effects for a film of the 1980's! Give this a watch & you'll sure enjoy it!

7/10.

Kung Fu Panda 4
(2024)

Not Bad, But Not Amazing
I have been watching the Kung Fu Panda Films ever since I was a teenager! I remember the first Kung Fu Panda Film like it was yesterday! The film is a classic & the 2011 & 2016 sequels were good to be fair, though it's been a while since I've seen them! Nonetheless, they've been pretty decent & not disappointing, this one however, while it was good overall, it didn't quite gel with me!

So, after the events of Kung Fu Panda 3, Po is now in a position to pass the torch to the next "Dragon Warrior" & is trying to decide who his successor should be! But, a wicked sorceress plans to re-summon all the master villains whom Po has vanquished to the spirit realm in the past & use their powers to rein terror!

I found the film to be pretty good! It's not amazing & feels somewhat isolated as the other main characters don't get half as much of a look in as they should! I get the story was different, but still, it could've & would've worked & been better had they been given the proper screen time!

The story & villain were not bad & pretty good! There's some humour to be had & the fights (despite being super short) were good as with the effects, voice acting & runtime of 1 hour & 25 minutes with not bad pacing! The animations were well done & the ending was pretty good too though questionable with today's climate!

Overall, it's a good film, but not amazing! For a 4th installment, it's pretty good, but it has made you wonder if it's time for them to either end the franchise here or carry on with Kung Fu Panda 5 & give the franchise the send off it needs!

6/10.

Horror in the High Desert
(2021)

Pretty Good.
Just got to watching this today after hearing much about it & while like most Found Footage films it's mostly boring at the start, it gets good near the end & this one was pretty good.

In July 2017, an outdoor enthusiast went missing in northern Nevada. He was never located. Friends & loved ones recall the events and, for the first time, talk about the horrific conclusion to his fate.

I found the film to be pretty good. It's not amazing, but it's pretty good once it kicks in & then things actually get creepy & sinister. The story is good & straight forward & the film has a short runtime of 1 hour & 18 minutes (78 minutes) & the pacing is pretty good too.

The actors do a good job with their roles as with the film makers in making the film believable & realistic as if the events were real. There's some scary visuals near the end & the scares are pretty well done.

The only negatives I'd give would be the lacking in anything visually creepy near the start to keep the audience invested & engaged to the end, but that's the issue with a lot of found footage films with me.

Overall, it's a pretty creepy film until near the end that is, but you'd have to keep watching in order to enjoy the creepy part at the end.

7/10.

Airplane!
(1980)

Pretty Funny!
Have seen bits & pieces of this film on TV, but not the full film until now! It's quite funny & enjoyable too!

After the crew becomes sick with food poisoning, a neurotic ex-fighter pilot must safely land a commercial aeroplane full of passengers!

I found the film to be pretty good & funny! I quite like these mickey take films with this one being probably the very first parody film before the likes of the Lampoon Series, then Spaceballs, the Scary Movie Franchise etc!

The actors in this film do a good job with their characters & the story along with the scenes in which they parody are well done! There's some dark humour in this too which is great & the film has a decent runtime of 1 hour & 19 minutes (79 minutes) with some great pacing!

There's not much to think about with this flick, you just sit, watch & enjoy the humourous scenes & scenarios that unfold! The story isn't unique, but the story isn't the primary focus here, the comedic elements are & they're pretty good & funny!

Overall, it's a classic comedy film that Micky takes aviation films with serious premises! You'll likely enjoy this if you like Spaceballs, the Scary Movie Franchise & even the Lampoon Films!

8/10.

28 Weeks Later
(2007)

An Improvement Over 28 Days Later!
So, with the first film being below average for me, I was curious as to what this one would be like & had a feeling I would enjoy it more than the first & I did!

6 months after the rage virus was inflicted on the population of Great Britain, the US Army helps to secure a small area of London for the survivors to repopulate & start again. But not everything goes according to plan!

I found the film to be ace & an improvement over the first film which I found to be boring, dragged out & lacking in action, not to mention overrated! This film was the opposite & had more action, more gore, a better story-line & a shorter runtime of 1 hour & 29 minutes (89 minutes) with some good pacing!

The characters & the actors who play them are better this time around & the ending was somewhat better here! As I said, there's more gore to be had in this flick as well as some great action too! 28 Years Later is said to be released this year, so fingers crossed we get another great sequel!

Overall, it's a great film & a better entry than the overrated first film! Give this a watch, you'll enjoy it & probably more than the first!

7/10.

Arachnophobia
(1990)

Will Make The Hairs Stand Up On Your Body!
Remember seeing this film years ago on VHS & found it to be quite a spine chilling flick! From someone that hates spiders, this film really gave me the chills! But, I did enjoy it & found it to be a classic! Having re-watched it recently, I still find it a classic flick!

A new species of South American killer spider hitches a lift to a small California town in a coffin & starts to breed, leaving a trail of deaths that puzzle & terrify the young doctor newly arrived in town with his family!

I found the film to be pretty good! It's a spine chilling, hair raising film that'll make you squirm, laugh & look on in excitement & suspence! The story is pretty good & the characters are ace! The actors do a great job here & the makers have done a good job with the effects which are pretty much practical here which is ace!

The film is creepy & not for the faint hearted! With a runtime of 1 hour & 39 minutes & with decent pacing, this film has something insane or creepy up its sleeve! There's plenty of action & even a bit of eye candy too! The nail biting finale is pretty good & will have you on the edge of your seat!

Overall, it's a great film & a sure fire classic that'll have to looking all around the room for spiders as you watch this flick!

8/10.

The Karate Kid Part III
(1989)

Not A Bad Conclusion!
Remember seeing this film years ago, but not in a long while until recently! I still find it a good film that gets over hated!

Ostracised villain John Kreese attempts to gain revenge on Daniel & Miyagi, with the help of a Vietnam War comrade, the wealthy owner of a toxic waste disposal business!

I found the film to be an enjoyable watch & a satisfying conclusion! Yeah, I'll admit it feels somewhat empty & out there compared to the first 2 films, (the first one especially), but it does the job & is entertaining!

The story for this one is good too & sees the return of Kreese from the first film come back for vengeance & the introduction of a new villain, Terry Silver! Who by the way is a pretty badarse villain at that along with Mike Barnes! So, you have a trilogy of villains here so it's good stuff!

Along with the villains you have Daniel & Mr. Mygai here who are always great as seen in the first 2 flicks of the series! There's plenty of action & drama to be had in this film & the pacing & runtime are decent also at 1 hour & 44 minutes! The ending while a little rushed & anticlimactic is good!

Overall, it's a good film! I'd say it's as good as Part II, but not as good as the first which is where it has the heart & the soul! There's more going on in the first film than the latter parts including this, but Part II & Part III are just as good despite lacking a little! This film is over hated & deserves credit! Yeah, it's not as good as the original, but it's a good film that you'll enjoy if you loved the original & Part II!

7/10.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
(2024)

Not Bad, Pretty Good!
So, 3 years after Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was pretty good, we get this sequel!

When the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new & old must join forces to protect their home & save the world from a second ice age!

I found the film to be quite good, not amazing, but enjoyable enough! The story isn't bad & you can follow it easy enough whether you're a fan of the franchise or not! The effects are great & the film has some darkness added in which I quite like to be honest!

Given I've never seen the very first 2 films of the franchise, I still understood the film & its dialogue! I found the pacing of this film to be decent & the runtime to be good too! At 1 hour & 46 minutes (106 minutes), it's well lengthen & doesn't out stay its welcome too much which is good! The characters are good & the actors do a good job at their respective roles! The ending was satisfying enough as well & ended on a high!

Overall, it's a great entry! Give it a watch & have your own honest opinion on it!

7/10.

Immaculate
(2024)

Above Average
Seen this advertised & thought it looked not bad. I wasn't expecting much from this one, but when I saw it was an 18+, I knew it had to see it as I was intrigued as to why it would be so gory & violent.

Cecilia, a woman of devout faith, is warmly welcomed to the picture-perfect Italian countryside where she is offered a new role at an illustrious convent. But it becomes clear to Cecilia that her new home harbors dark & horrifying secrets.

I found the film to be not bad, it was somewhat out there & drab in places. But it has some gruesome, gory, dark & sinister moments packed into it's 1 hour & 20 minute runtime (80 minutes) & has some fast pacing too.

The story & its concept are unique enough & the characters do well with their roles. As I said, the film is quite gory & violent, not Saw gory, but you get the idea. There's some eye candy too & some humour, albeit dark in the film & the conclusion/ending is satisfying enough.

Overall, it's pretty decent, but not amazing. It's quick & short, so it doesn't out stay its welcome. It's gory, violent, dark & sinister for the most part & the concept story is unique enough, with some dark humour & eye candy, the actors do a good job in this above average Horror flick.

Paranormal Activity 4
(2012)

Average Like Part 3
Saw this back in 2012, & like the 3rd Part, I found this flick to be average. At this point, it became an annual tradition every Halloween that a Paranormal Activity Film came out & teens would flock to see the newest entry. Of course, they found it more funny & laughable, but also scary too. I'll admit it's a film you can watch just to kill some time & didn't find this one too bad despite it suffering from the tropes & cliches that let it down, but by the 4th entry, that's to be expected I guess.

It's been 5 years since the disappearance of Katie & Hunter, & a suburban family witness strange events in their neighborhood when a woman & a mysterious child move in.

I found the film like the 3rd part, to be on the weak side. Again, like the 3rd film, it has some good things going for it, but at the same time, also has some downsides too. The film suffers as you mostly see story over action as appose seeing anything worthwhile.

The film isn't bad, & has its good points but seems a little weaker this time around. It's runtime is short at 1 hour & 19 minutes & the pacing ain't bad. The characters are ok, but we're really here for the scares & action, & of course story even though it's paper thin by this point.

The ending wasn't bad either & with little action we got like the 3rd part, it was good & got you jumping out your seat at some points. Not that it was scary as such, but you know what I mean. The effects are good like 3 & the previous 2, so there's that as well.

Overall, it's another weak but average entry to the Paranormal Franchise. Give it a watch, but don't expect much from this one.

Paranormal Activity 3
(2011)

Average
Saw this back in the day when it was released, but didn't think too much of it. Even nearly 13 years on when I watched it recently this year, I still feel it's an average film, not bad, but not amazing either.

Set in 1988, 18 years before the events of what happened to Micha & Kate, this film sees Kate as a young girl living in what is believed to be the same home from the first film with her sister back in the day.

I found the film to be on the weak side, though now watching it recently, I can see what they tried to do & to be honest, I have changed my stance slightly on this flick. But still, the film suffers a bit (much like the first 2 films) with being more story over action & seeing anything worthwhile. The film isn't bad, & has its good points but seems a little weaker this time around.

It's runtime is short at 1 hour & 15 minutes, so it's decently lengthen, though the pacing was sluggish & of course with the lack of anything in your face occurring, it's going to make the film seem longer than what it is. The ending wasn't bad & the scares when the do come are about average. The characters aren't too bad & again, the prequel idea is pretty interesting.

Overall, it's average. It's not the best, but it's not the worst either.

The Karate Kid Part II
(1986)

Decent Sequel!
Saw this one a while back, but only bits & pieces of it! Though I do recall the final fight & how good it was!

Daniel accompanies his mentor, Mr. Miyagi, to Miyagi's childhood home in Okinawa! Miyagi visits his dying father & confronts his old rival, while Daniel falls in love & inadvertently makes a new rival of his own!

I found the film to be preety good! It's not amazing, but it's decent & does the job by continuing on the story & characters! The change in setting from the USA to Japan is interesting for this sequel as it shakes things up a bit! The villain, Chozen, is good & makes for a good foe against Daniel!

The story isn't bad in the film either & is a change from the first! This time around, it tells a bit about Mr. Miyagi's story & explores his character more, like where he was from & how he became who he was etc!

The runtime is good at 1hr & 44mins (104mins) & has not bad pacing either despite being a bit slow here & there! There's some good fights, good action & new characters here along with the ones from the previous film! The end fight is ace & one of the greatest highlights! The actors do a good job here with their roles!

Overall, it's a decent sequel to the original! I'd say this as good as the original if anything! Give it a watch!

Imaginary
(2024)

Imaginary Tripe
Wasn't expecting much from this & only saw a pretty unimaginative (pardon the pun), trailer for the film last year until sweet fa until recently. Like I said, I wasn't expecting much from this as it didn't sell it to me, but, I thought it might be good given Jeff Wadlow, the director of Kick-Ass 2 & Truth Or Dare was behind this. So, naturally, I thought it might be good...

A woman returns to her childhood home to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is very real & unhappy that she abandoned him.

I found the film to be pretty tame. While the premise & concept were ok, it was poorly executed. If you thought M3gan & Night Swim were bad, look out, this takes the cake. The film has more cons than pros, the pros being the what little horror we got. Then there's the cons... jeez, where to start...

Oh yeah, the film is 1 hour & 40 minutes too long (100 minutes) & has really bad pacing issues especially towards the end. It didn't half out stay its welcome by the time the 3rd act rolled around. It was annoying as the sluggish pacing was bad enough from the start, but by the end, man, it really irritated me & just when you thought the film was ending, more came.

The characters were bland & annoying. Of course, with it being 2024, there was some modern references in the cast & of course, all the male characters were portrayed as weak, bad or non existent in the film. Even the imaginary friend was a male, typical...

But anyway, with that came the lack of scares, the juvenile monsters you see & the dumb, goofy effects. Not to mention the uneven, out there story, the lack of realism & just the disengaged feel & watch of the film. You just couldn't get into it & it became quite a chore to watch after the first 40 minutes or so.

The film was more talky talk, drawn out drama than horror & scares which were little to non-existent, ok, there was some scary visuals but they weren't that great in themselves. I also couldn't help but feel there was a sort of message in the film, about men not being needed, I don't know, but from the portrayal of the characters, it's pretty plain to see...

Overall, it's a pretty weak & annoying watch of a film. This film didn't cut it & was utter tripe from start to finish. Weak characters, weak story, weak effects & an over bloated runtime with pacing so slow, even slugs would be squirming with frustration just to get to the end.
