Tell Me Lies
(2022)

Definition of Toxic relationship
I'm writing a review because I think there are some unfair reviews out there. The show is good, emotionally draining but good. I watched it mainly because I was invested in the characters and seeing where they would go. Would they mature, change or realize they've been lied to? The plot isn't super ground breaking but keeps you engaged, again mainly because the actors act so well within their characters. I really dislike both the main leads. Lucy because she's too weak, entitled and honestly plain stupid at times and definitely not a good friend. As for Stephen he is a literal psychopath, a manipulative liar and just awful person- honestly can't see how any of the girls on this show would like him but I guess that's the point of the show-being so blinded by love you don't see a sleaze ball even if he's staring you in the eye. I read the book by Carola Lovering and there's no happy ending in it really, karma or payback for what Stephen does. Show is exactly the same- so it's not a feel good show. It was so irritating to watch him destroy literally everyone's life around him and not get caught. I've never hated a character more, other than Cersei or Joffrey on GOT, so maybe it's good writing or acting or just story. I wouldn't pass on this show but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it either; unless your dating a jerk and need to see this to open your eyes. Beware and remember you can't lie to yourself.

Ozark
(2017)

"A hard way to go"
Great show! It's true the first two seasons were better than 3 & 4 but the final episode, though anticlimactic, isn't as horrible as some reviewers are making it out to be. The directors and writers all said in an interview that they didn't want Ruth's character to live or have some sort of spin-off (Julia Garner wasn't going to do it either)-it was sad & indeed a hard way to go for her (Navarro & many others) but necessary and honestly realistic because at some point the cartel or Camila would have found out the truth about Javi and had their revenge with Ruth; Langmore's are cursed after all! Would I have loved Marty to show up out of the blue and shot Camila and save Ruth? Absolutely yes but definitely unrealistic as they were being watched and threatened...and were they really going to mess with the Cartel?? No.

As for the Byrd family "getting away clean" I think is just a dark satire about how dirty politics are and how money and power can change the tides but the Byrds will always be tied to crime & the cartel (not to mention mental trauma for all the awful things they've done as a means to an end) as much as they want to walk away they can't. So why continue the story-it ends with them killing yet another innocent person that got in their way (Mel who's a good cop but honestly a super annoying character). I do think it was unrealistic for Jonah to be the one who shot (after an entire season of being the absolute worse son in the world) but hey blood is thicker than water. And for all the other random things I've read like where is Zeke, or Three or what happens to Rachel-all I have to say is "who cares"! It's left to your imagination and honestly doesn't change the important events that lead to end of the story.

I think endings are always controversial. If it's too happy it's unrealistic, too sad or morbid then we're upset as well. The show entertained us throughout the years, just like GOT, and I can't fault it or take away it's merit or high rating for a bad or not perfect ending. Just enjoy the ride and rewatch the episodes you liked.

Senior Year
(2022)

Don't go chasing waterfalls
I knew what I was expecting watching this but it actually exceeded my somewhat low expectations. It's your typical coming of age story but with a twist- through the eyes of someone who's been in a coma for 20 years so though she's 37 she still has the mind of a 17 year old. It had a lot of laughs and I really liked Rebel in this, she wasn't obnoxious but rather sweet while still being funny. Also, if you were a teen or grew up in the late 90s then you'll love the soundtrack (Britney Spears/Nelly/Mandy Moore). It sends a really nice message and reminds you what we all should know: popularity, whether it was prom queen/king in high school back in the day, or having thousands of followers on social media now doesn't matter but your true friends/family do. It's not going to win any awards but it's a feel good, cute, comedy.

The Murder of Laci Peterson
(2017)

Only God knows the truth
Honestly I have more doubts than certainty/clarity after watching this series. I was in my teens when this atrocious crime was committed and publicized in the media and just like the rest of America thought "for sure he did it!". But now after seeing this, I'm not so sure; there's just not enough "concrete" evidence (no pun intended) and the trial seemed more like a witch hunt than an actual trial. The jury was so unprofessional and I just feel if I'm convicting someone to DEATH there better be absolutely no doubt & proof! I see a lot of reviewers saying it's one sided and I disagree. Obviously, Laci's family thinks he's guilty so no need to interview them (and relive this tragedy) but since clearly a lot of important information & evidence was left out during the trial and not given media or police attention the series wanted to showcase that (reason his lawyers/family are speaking) For example, the neighbors that claim they saw Laci walking the dog; the boat capsizing, the burglars... and where is the DNA?? It just raises more questions. And yes Scott Peterson was no saint- he was a cheater, porn addicted liar and probably stupid/bad person but does that make him a murderer? I just don't know. I feel this documentary is more about the flaws in our justice system, trials, police departments/ investigations & juries (I'm not even going to start on that strawberry shortcake lady bc if we'd just go off of looks alone she'd be in jail! And yes I'm being biased with her just like she was biased with the trial) The media and attention definitely swayed their votes- all of it just seemed very mishandled. What's really sad is if he didn't do it- then who did? And did they get always with it?! Only God knows!

He's All That
(2021)

Not ALL that bad
I'm actually writing a review because I was pretty surprised to see such low ratings. Of course I knew it wasn't going to be anywhere near as good as the original 1999 with Rachel Leigh Cook & Freddie Prince Junior (I was 11 when it came out-loved it then love it now) but considering this new movie is for the 2021 generation who are constantly on they're phones or blogging it made sense. A lot of people are saying how horrible Addison Rae was and I'm just wondering if we saw the same movie? She was pretty good for a girl with no prior acting skills, very natural and believable and honestly carried the movie. Tanner Buchanan on the other hand can't act- it's actually painful to watch (and I love Cobra Kai) but this kid is like a wooden stick or robot, just horrible! At times the movie feels forced but it wasn't awful, it had a nice message at the end too; don't take this too seriously and enjoy it for what it is.

Sex/Life
(2021)

Is it enough?
This show is really a look into marriages, relationships and choices. Yes of course there's sex but it's about how your partner should make you feel & who is right for you; which can be different depending on what time or place you are in your life. I read a lot of reviews saying acting and writing is weak but I disagree (and I hated 50 shades of Grey-made no sense and is nothing like this). The story was the best part of the show! I loved seeing Billie's inner conflict and choosing who she was or wanted to be but only thing I hated was the ending. I don't condone cheating- and realistically you can't have it all. If Billie wanted to be with Brad then make the choice, get a divorce, start a new life (which is obviously the hard decision and reason she didn't want to do it) but don't cheat on your husband! Cheating doesn't solve anything and you would hurt everyone involved. It was a very "have your cake and eat it too" ending- which made no sense since Billie wasn't presented as a selfish character but rather a confused one.

Two Distant Strangers
(2020)

"I see no changes"
Loved the message it was trying to get across; and it's not an exaggeration like some say-this does happen on a daily basis unfortunately and specifics to minorities. I was hoping for a happy ending, like when they actually talked and understood each other but let's be honest that's usually not how life goes and that's probably the point of the movie.

I Care a Lot
(2020)

I care not to see this movie ever again!
I love the cast- Dianne Weist, Peter Dinklage, Rosamund Pike...but not even they could save this script/story. The problem as many have already stated is that the main character was completely unlikable and irredeemable...when the audience ends up rooting for the "Russian mafia" you know you have a problem. The beginning was great and had they stuck with that story- or maybe Weist (the mother) outsmarting Marla or someone bringing their scam to light we all would have felt more satisfied. There was absolutely no background to Marla's character-why did she hate her own mom and have no fear? Where did she get a wig, taser guns and drugs? Overnight? And after breaking out of sinking car? Way too improbable. She wasn't a lioness... she was a monster preying on innocent elderly people. At least in the end the saying "what comes around goes around" came to fruition and that son (who never got to see his mom) had some sort of justice or vengeance...though I would have preferred for her to go to jail or end up in someone's custody (preferably Jennifer's that would have been ironic)...in a psych ward or facility like she did to so many.

Your Honor
(2020)

The Truth Will Set You Free!
Great show! I'm really surprised at how low some of the reviews are- and I'll start by saying-like most have already mentioned: Adam has to be one of the worst characters ever written. I don't think it's the actors fault, it's just the stupid decisions/things he does or the show makes him do that irritates the audience; but if you can look past that the show is still entertaining and suspenseful all the way. It shows you how far a parent is willing to go to save their own child and raises questions about truth, lies and choices. Hands down Kofi was my favorite character/story; I felt more invested and sad for him and his family than any of the other families/characters because they we're truly the innocent ones in all of this. Not the judge and certainly not the Baxter's. That sub story felt very much like the Night Of...you see what goes on inside a prison, how it changes you (maybe you were good & innocent but then have to do unimaginable things in prison to survive). It is surprising the detective Nancy Costello, the senator mother in law and the lawyer Lee took so long to uncover what really happened as they are the best in their fields... but happy to see some people care and won't stop until they see things through or uncover the truth. Bryan Cranston is wonderful as usual; the same goes for the rest of the cast (except Adam & Fia). I do hope there's a season two where all the dirty cops, guards, lawyers & judges go down. Also, there were a few unanswered questions- like who was always in that black SUV? They witnessed the whole accident and yet it was never mentioned? And was Robin really murdered or did it have anything to do with her affair? Let's see- still a very enjoyable show. Hoping for season 2- though I was satisfied with end & hope Adam isn't rescued (for all our sakes)

Cobra Kai
(2018)

Cobra Kai Never Dies
Really should be William Zabka never dies! He is amazing, just a star in this show! And without trying too! He is super natural- the show as well. Nothing about this show seems forced, it's perfect writing, story telling and acting (specially the fighting scenes). I never saw this on YouTube but heard a lot about it; friends & family told me it was great but to be honest I only saw karate kid once when I was little & wasn't to into it or a hardcore fan so I wasn't thrilled about watching this show and had it in my watch list for such a long time because I thought it was going to be corny- BIG MISTAKE! This is a must see! And I'm so happy I finally decided to see what all the "hype" was about. Netflix struck gold by buying this from YouTube-just hope the writers/directors are the same & don't change it- because it's a gem. So many funny moments & wonderful soundtrack (definitely ode to the 80s but not overly). Also, this show to me isn't about Danny vs Johny- or who's better; it's about feelings, behavior, mentors and how things/people in life affect you and take you down a road you may not have taken. People can change and have a second chance. Love it!

The Reliant
(2019)

What the heck was that?
We could only get through the first half hour. Probably the worst movie I've ever seen in my life. Have no idea what it even was about nor did we care to stay watching and find out. Avoid it

The Lion King
(2019)

A lion's share of criticism
I wanted to love this movie because i loved the original so much. It was my favorite Disney movie as a kid (and still to this day to be honest) but it was just so bland. Maybe my expectations were too high but it was just lacking something and I'm still not quite sure what it is. Some scenes felt forced or robotic. While some songs were great others (Scar's) were a flop and though the CGI effects were good they could have been better. I thought they were going to make Mufasa more grandiose...and i won't even comment on Beyonce as Nala because I'm still upset about that. Thank God for the classics and the 90s! Bring originality back Disney!

Five Feet Apart
(2019)

POOL Me In!! Pun Intended!
My husband and I saw this last night, we are in our 30's, and both cried like babies all throughout the movie. I didn't even cry this much in the Notebook or PS I Love You or Me before you (and any other sad movie you can think of). I wanted to write a review because I hear a lot of comparisons to The Fault In Our Stars; yes both have sickly teenagers who fall in love but the stories are still completely different. Haley Lu Richardson's acting is amazing and blows it out of the park compared to Shailene Woodley...though not nice to compare as both are great stories in their own unique ways. Her portrayal of Stella was so natural and believable though. The rest of the actors were great too. Take tissues, eat candy, enjoy life and hug your loved ones. Go see this movie!

Bumblebee
(2018)

Give me some honey!
If you love the 80s, transformers, clean humor and an actual good story/plot then don't miss this movie!! I was a bit spectacle at first as the previous Transformer movies/franchise went down the drain after the first 2 ( I really loved the first transformers) but this surpassed them all! Awesome!

Mary Poppins Returns
(2018)

Total opposite of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
It took all of me not to get up and walk out...and I've sat through some bad movies! But the story & music were just awful. Also, I never write reviews but considering this was a Disney classic, I was greatly disappointed not to mention bored half the time. Love Emily Blunt, just not this movie.

Noah
(2014)

From bad to worse
I usually never write reviews unless the movie is spectacularly good or spectacularly bad, unfortunately it was the latter. This movie was just horrible!!****Spoiler Alert**** Besides the fact that it was completely different than the story in the Bible (literally just open the Bible to Genesis and read it. God clearly speaks to Noah and tells him what to do- he doesn't have to guess it, figure it out, or dream it…and that's just the small differences… I could go on and on…I won't even start on the Nephilims!) it just lacked something. The flow was just off... and the acting was bland. Also, they focused way too much on Emma Watson (which again an adopted daughter wasn't in the Bible)…I mean you have Jennifer Connelly, who's great, and beautiful eye candy Douglass Booth and you hardly put them in the movie? Come on! And the scene of the snake, forbidden fruit and Cain killing Abel was just weird and overly repeated. Strange, strange, strange…off course this is to be expected from the director of Black Swan… but why change an already great story is beyond me.
