Jane Eyre
(1983)

Timothy Dalton at his very best
Timothy Dalton owns the role of Rochester. Nobody else can top it. He has a commanding stage appearance and excels in this art form. The staging and camera direction were perfectly executed too for full emotional richness of the storyline. Aside from the love story,"Jane Eyre" is timeless in expressing all of our fears, tribulations and hopes. It addresses many issues still relevant today with the added suspense of the lunatic locked away in the attic. All of the other characters were well cast making this one of the most harmonious productions I've ever seen. The actors all played off of each other's lines so well that it flows even with scenes that were cut from the video version. Try to buy the newer DVD which has additional scenes. Pity we haven't seen more of Zelah Clarke across the pond in the states.

Hercules
(2005)

Hercules
I love Greek Mythology and this saga did a good job bringing the hero Hercules to life. The scenery, costumes and actors were great(even the children). Others have complained about the special effects, but this was made for family entertainment. The sex, violence and gore were just at the correct rating. Hercules was a welcome relief in the fantasy genre from the usual "dribble" on T.V. What ruined the overall story-line were two things: -Too many commercials -The original version got cut by over an hour. Perhaps the additional footage would have held the continuity of the film better in spite of all the commercial interruptions. I hope Hallmark will issue the DVD in its uncut, original version.
