War of the Worlds: The Attack
(2023)

Unfortunate...
I love the H. G Wells War of the World's and was so excited that they made a new movie in that universe. A parallel story set in England to complement the US story we all know. Unfortunately, this was not very well done.

Negative: It's just low budget.

The actors are ok, but not as good as I'd like.

The writing was ok, but not as good as should be.

The CGI is... well the CGI should be way better than it is; especially the way the actors react to the CGI aliens.

Positives: The camera work, lighting, sound, and photography are actually all pretty good.

The edits are cut well for a good transition.

If you like invasion movies that seem more like a film school project, then here's your jam. If you're looking for a big studio project that this film should have had, then steer clear.

Take Back the Night
(2021)

Great commentary on rape culture and victim blaming in America
The reviews downplaying this movie must be the same people who blame the victim.

The sound, camera, and lighting quality are amateur.

The acting is decent.

The dialogue and plot are actually superb.

Every day victims are belittled, ignored, and accused on lying about being assaulted or raped. This film demonstrates the emotional toll one takes and the hurdles they must overcome just to report an assault, let alone going through the court system.

This artsy cultural commentary deserves higher praise and should be used to spread awareness rather than being fodder for those in the privileged and ignorant position to deny.

Meet Cute
(2022)

Underrated look at mental health and the impossible expectations imposed on us.
Those who disliked it must not have been able to look past the surface, which is still a great film.

The film contains great use of symbolism and comments on the true nature of relationships in contrast to the unattainably perfect marriage portrayed in most romcoms.

The characters are raw and easy to empathize with. Pete and Kaley fit these rolls so believably because they represent parts of themselves.

The colors used, the shots, the lighting, characters, writing.... It all makes for an emotional story.

I don't like that my review has to be longer. Thrift is a valuable and oft lacking trait in writing.

House of 1000 Corpses
(2003)

Honestly, it's overrated. Unless you like white trash home videos.
I tried to like it, but I just couldn't. It's a collection of old horror tropes mashed together in a way that doesn't really work. The acting and dialogue are bad, even for horror movies; there's a reason nobody knows Chris Hardwick was an actor. Rainn Wilson is ok, but that's it. The scene cuts are kind of annoying, especially when it flashes to a cut of b roll meant to provide some extra information to the viewer. Unfortunately they don't helpnthe story, they're just an attempt by Rob Zombie to bring his old music video style back. No suspense is ever built, no mystery, no frights. I'm sorry, but it just isn't worth watching.

Dark Web: The Mystery Box
(2020)

Pointless
An hour of watching a lady apply makeup very poorly followed by horrible acting in what I suspect was supposed to be some horror? I've seen children write / produce better projects. I'm sad that I wasted my time on this. If the fake makeup tutorials had been better, I could have at least learned something... But nope. Just skip this one.

I Know What You Did Last Summer
(2021)

Wanted to like it, but...
We're supposed to believe that a father would just tell his surviving daughter that she had to assume her sister's identity, go to a college she doesn't want to attend, be friends with people she doesn't like, just give up her whole life and perpetuate a lie. What a stupid show. I truly wanted to like it but it sucks. It suck. It sucks so hard.

Red Woods
(2021)

It's really bad, not in a good way.
Usually I love this type of film, but this is a mess. Bad writing, bad direction, bad acting... There is nothing redeeming about this project at all. Please don't waste your time like I did. Imagine if Tommy Wiseau made a found footage but it had no comedic value like The Room did.

I'd rather watch your grandkid's home movies from the early 90s. I'd rather watch surveillance video from a parking lot of an abandoned mall. I would rather watch basketball.

Not even just boring, but actually annoying to watch.

Asteroid
(2021)

Exactly what you'd expect from a cheap local movie.
Every review saying "the asteroid didn't show up", clearly did not watch the entire movie. It has a plot twist. And people complain about really stupid things.

The writing and acting is terrible, the video and audio is great.

Dave Made a Maze
(2017)

If you didn't love it, you're broken.
Genius originality and hilarious. Well written, shot, and acted.

Only people who aren't smart enough to understand it won't place this in their top ten.

Willy's Wonderland
(2021)

What won't Nicolas Cage do for money?
The answer is: not much

It's exactly as good-bad as you think it is.

The Woman in the Window
(2021)

Artistic view of mental health and grief
Those who are comparing this to The Rear Window obviously didn't watch the movie. Those who complained about the cinematography obviously didn't finish the movie or don't understand mental health disorders or grief. It's actually a great view into the life of someone with PTSD.

The Mitchells vs the Machines
(2021)

It was ok
I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. It was just ok.

Hoarding: Buried Alive: Somewhere in My Pile
(2013)
Episode 3, Season 5

Mental Health shouldn't have a stigma
The reviews that personally attack the woman in need of aid shock me. She suffers from mental health disorders and needs support, not hatred. Then they give this a 1/10 as if the lady featured in the episode created it. Shows the sort of intelligence that goes behind the hatred towards these people. Just sad.

Let's Not Meet
(2018)

It's pretty rough
I've seen better acting in junior high drama class. If my child made this as their film school project I'd stop sending money for tuition. Boring and underdeveloped plot and characters. Terrible acting that is more like awkward recital of barely memorized lines. Poor camera and lighting quality. Choppy edits.

They should have made a found footage to help hide their poor talent.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
(2006)

How is this funny?
Sasha Baron Cohen tries way too hard to be funny. Humor comes from a natural and truthful place, not acting like a 3 year old raised by animals. This movie is just annoying.

Block Island
(2018)

It's pretty rough
If you think good actors should yell as they take a few wind up steps and then run towards a man pointing a gun their way then once shot stand still for a second then hop backwards a few times before falling over like grandma bouncing off her back on trampoline just to seem less-old to the kiddies, then I've found the perfect movie for you.

If you don't like movies that have been filmed by a kid who found his grandpa's old RCA camcorder, the one that took full size VCR tapes, with a total actors budget of 'we'll let you shower in the gymnasium changerooms' ( oh ya! It looks like it was filmed on of those elementary school stages that are attached to the gym) then you should probably just skip this one.

Daniel Isn't Real
(2019)

Worst thing to ever happen to the Kennedy family.
Little Schwartzy was actually doing a good job of acting here until the director made the movie into a piece of crap.

Door in the Woods
(2019)

Just bad. And I usually love cheap horror flicks
The best actor in this movie is a deaf man with an overbite so bad it gives him a ridiculous lisp. "best" is of course only relative as his acting is so poor that I found it hard to even follow his dialogue. Especially painful is a scene in which an evil spirit speaks through him but his mouth movement doesn't even come close to the sound made, which by the way was a cheap, cheap overdub; like... You using a Casio tape deck to dub over a track.

Bad plot, bad acting, bad dialogue, bad acting, bad effects, bad acting, bad acting.

Girl on the Third Floor
(2019)

Not good... And they kill a dog
Plot is predictable and fairly boring.

Acting is lacking emotion and believability. C.M. Punk is actually worse in film than in the UFC Octagon. He sounds like he's struggling to read each line and he has zero facial expression. He isn't the worst actor in the film though.

Camera angles and lighting attempt to be artsy but only annoy the watcher. Editing is equally distracting; some scenes are like watching tv with the wrong aspect ratio selected and the zoom function enabled.

If you're thinking of watching, don't bother, if you already have ... Well, I'm sorry.

The Unauthorized Melrose Place Story
(2015)

Is what it is.
It's a D reel portrayal of C list celebs... Why would anyone be shocked that they aren't as skilled or attractive as the people they are playing? LOL!!! Except for the girl playing Tori Spelling... She did her a great service there.

Harley Quinn
(2019)

Harley's voice is annoying...
I was so excited for this series but Kaley Cuoco's voice... Ugh. She was annoying on Big Bang and she's worse in this. The story lines are good, other characters are fine... But they really should have found a better actor to voice Harley. It's unfortunate.

Wake the Witch
(2010)

Pretty crappy LoL
It was filmed in 2010 but the quality is on par with a Canadian college students film from 1992.

The lead and her two friends are pretty decent and believable.

The supporting cast is mostly awful, especially Deb's mom... How was she cast? Is it one of the crews actual mom?

The lighting, shot frames, and sound quality are pretty terrible. It kind of reminds me of a highschool safety video.

It's 2010 but they use flip phones? The funniest scene was a piece of paper glued on to the screen of the same flip phone I had in 1999. It was supposed to be a message on the display... Hilarious.

It might have worked better as a found footage.

Comedown
(2012)

Bad premise...
A more appropriate description would be "six druggie street kids, including one just out of prison, break into a man's home, destroy his property then torture and murder his pets along with their unborn offspring get what they deserve". The saddest part is that they didn't all die.

It's pretty hard to feel sorry for these kids since they're all garbage human beings. This movie completely failed at getting us to care for the protagonists. In fact, I actually cheered for the "psychopath" to kill them all. Not scary. Not thrilling. Just aggravating.

Prophecy
(1979)

ManBearPig is REAL, I'm super serial, guys.
Half man, half bear, half pig. Al Gore was right, he's super serial. ManBearPig will kill us all.

Truth Be Told
(2019)

Could it BE any more boring?
The answer is no. It's very slow moving and the characters are nearly impossible to care about.
