The Lie
(2018)

Mixed feelings
The Lie (2018) garnered a lot of praise, prompting me to watch it myself. The film boasts a strong cast and creates a cold, eerie atmosphere reminiscent of Fargo. The plot is promising, but it falters due to slow dialogue delivery, making it drag at times. The sluggish pace becomes more irritating than satisfying, especially with the character Kayla, who comes off as annoying. This leaves me torn between liking and hating the movie.

Civil War
(2024)

One of the worst movies so far in 2024
When I walked into the theater, my anticipation was somewhat high, but I couldn't ignore the bimodal distribution of ratings on IMDb, which already dampened my expectations. Sadly, the ratings were spot-on. This movie fell far below even my lowered expectations.

The premise had promise-a group of aspiring journalists embarking on a daring mission to interview the President during a civil war. However, the execution left much to be desired. The lack of context regarding the conflict's origins was forgivable, but what truly grated on my nerves was the film's myopic focus on trivialities at the expense of the larger narrative.

The acting was cringe-worthy, failing to evoke any genuine emotion or investment in the characters. Moreover, the script felt amateurish, lacking depth and coherence. Even the visual and auditory elements fell short, with subpar cinematography and lackluster sound design.

Overall, "OMG" indeed sums up my sentiments about this film-it was a disappointing mess from start to finish. Hopefully, future endeavors from the filmmakers will showcase improvement in all aspects of storytelling and production.

Fair Play
(2023)

My blood was boiling while watching this
Fair Play is a movie that accurately portrays the reality of our society, where men are often uncomfortable with the success of their female partners. The film does an excellent job of capturing the subtle ways in which male insecurity can manifest in relationships. The movie is well-acted and believable, which makes it even more impactful.

Overall, Fair Play is a well-made and thought-provoking, of not disturbing film that is sure to stay with viewers long after the credits have rolled. It is a must-watch for anyone who wants to understand the complex dynamics of relationships between men and women in today's society.

Totally Killer
(2023)

Nostalgic slasher comedy
Totally Killer is a fun and nostalgic slasher comedy that captures the vibe of the 1980s. The characters are well-developed and likable, and the plot is a wild ride. Some of the characters were very relatable and I cared about what happened to them.

Of course, the plot is not exactly realistic. But that's not really the point. This is a movie that is meant to be enjoyed for its campy fun and its over-the-top kills. And on that level, it delivers completely.

I think this is a movie with a good production overall.

If you're a fan of slasher movies, 80s nostalgia, then you'll definitely enjoy this film.

Talk to Me
(2022)

This movie is just so overhyped! OMG
I had high hopes for the movie. I was particularly drawn to the idea of connecting with the departed, similar to the use of an Ouija board. However, the film left me deeply disappointed.

Firstly, the characters fell flat. They lacked depth, which made it Impossible to care what happens to them. Secondly, the plot proved disappointingly simplistic. The film failed to deliver any real scares, relying instead on tired clichรฉs in an attempt to create tension. I believe the only scary scene is the one in the toilet. Lastly, the production quality left much to be desired. The acting felt mediocre, the special effects seemed cheesy, and the makeup left me unconvinced.

On a side note, the Australian accents of some cast members occasionally made the dialogue hard to follow.

In summary, "Talk to Me" falls short of its acclaim. It's a tedious, predictable, and poorly executed film that I would advise avoiding at all costs.

2 Hearts
(2020)

An incredibly emotional movie
I thought this was supposed to be a love movie. It turns out to be something a lot more than that. This movie is also about family, friendship, death, grief and the importance of doing good for society. I didn't expect these at all.

I felt connected with all the characters. The plot was well crafted. The scripts were good. All the actors were natural. Nothing feels forced.

The movie leaves you with so many emotions on so many different levels. Prepare a lot of tissue, let me warn you. I do not even remember the last time I had tears watching a movie.

This has become my new favorite. Highly recommended.

An easy 10/10 for me.

Wonder
(2017)

Well, I cried like a baby
There is really not much for me to say for this movie except that it was so beautifully made. The storytelling of each character was personal but well connected to the broader theme. The scripts were spectacular. Towards the end of the movies, there were a lot of emotional scenes, which of course made me cry like a baby. So well made!

Day Shift
(2022)

My favorite vampire movie now
I had no expectation whatsoever about this movie. Honestly, when it comes to the Netflix brand, I generally have doubts. But this movie hits it differently. All the characters blend together really well. The scripts were well crafted. The humor was just right. The actions scenes are everything: blood, gore...you name it. This is really a big screen type of movie. Very well done. Highly recommended.

Irresistible
(2020)

The ending was totally unexpected.
This movie is actually pretty original. To top that, the ending was totally surprising and unexpected. Good script, great cast and superior production. Overall, I really enjoyed watching it.

Girl in the Picture
(2022)

A lot of twists and turns
I really enjoyed watching this documentary. The storytelling was well crafted. You get to really appreciate the unbelievable story that slowly unfolds over a period of more than two decades about the dead woman and her dead son. There were a lot of twists and turns for which you cannot foresee what the ending would be. The world can be mean to people but there are some really good people who will try to make things right for them. Highly recommended.

Green Book
(2018)

Simply captivating
The story about two very different men-one with class and the other with crass-but they end up bonding over each other. I felt mesmerized by their growing friendship. Very well scripted. The acting was world class. This will be on the top of my feel-good movie list. This is not just recommended but a must-see.

Elvis
(2022)

Great production and acting but boring as heck!
My review will contradict others'. While the movie production was superb and the acting was superior, I really did not enjoy the movie. I did not get any goosebumps (I usually do for this kind of films), nor did I feel any emotions from the actors or actresses. In fact, I felt extremely bored. The movie also just kept dragging on for 2.5 hours. I wish more emphasis were put on telling a more detailed story about Elvis and how he came to greatness. I wanted to see more serious conversations as opposed to the quick shuffling of scenes. The movie felt almost cartoon-like at certain points. Still recommended but I doubt that one will enjoy watching it. Just meh!

9/11
(2017)

Not bad at all.
Yes, as other people have said, if you expect to see a movie about the details of 911, this is not the movie for you. But if you wanna enjoy yourself with a movie about people who are stuck in the elevator in the North Tower on September 11 who are trying to save their own lives, this is the movie for you. Not Oscar worthy, of course, but there were some good moments there. Recommended.

Top Gun: Maverick
(2022)

Brilliant in every way!
Two hours ago I did not know this movie existed! So I went in with very little expectations about where this movie would take me. Damn, it is a really brilliant movie. I enjoyed every minute of it. Tom Cruise never disappointed us. The plot was well crafted. Acting was superb. Not only was it action packed; there were a few emotional moments that make this movie especially memorable. The plot reminds me of the early 2000s movie vibe for some reasons. This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. I applauded after the movie ended. Super recommended.

Fresh
(2022)

Disturbingly good
Wow, this is pretty original. The movie gave me the vibe of "Promising Your Woman", which I also love. The acting was superb. Although the storyline was somewhat predictable, the ending will give you the satisfaction that is very much needed for this type of movie. 1.5 hours went by very quickly, which showed how engaged I was. Highly recommended!

The Requin
(2022)

It is so ridiculous I had to laugh.
Honestly, this has to be a comedy ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…. I actually laughed very hard at times because some of the scenes were so stupid. One of the biggest problems about this movie is that Alicia Silverstone can no longer act: the way she cries and the way she talks just do not sound right. There is something odd about her. She used to be my high school crush; now she literally crutched my heart with her acting. This is the end of her career as we know it.

Our Father
(2022)

Dr.Cline is a bad doctor!
Very good documentary but painful to watch. I got really mad watching this and to learn that Dr. Cline served no jail time just says everything about how flawed the US legal system is. 94 shared siblings and still counting. Damn this doctor has no remorse whatsoever.

Moonfall
(2022)

The movie falls apart just like the title suggests!
Moonfall started with an interesting idea: The moon is falling from the sky. I admit I went in with very low expectations for this type of movie. I just wanted to enjoy myself on a good Friday night without using too much of my brain. Unfortunately, the movie failed to deliver in almost every possible aspect imaginable. I did not feel any emotional connection with any of the characters. Everything also took place at night. Why!?!?!?! More importantly, the plot started to go downhill when aliens become involved. I decided to leave the theater because I could not put up with the BS much longer. Highly not recommended. Trust me, I am a very lenient rater.

Bodyguard
(2018)

Best terrorist series after 24
This mini series reminds me of 24. Although not as great as 24, it did give me a great pleasure after seeing it. Captivating throughout. Highly recommended.

Mother/Android
(2021)

Potentially a great sci-fi ruined by a drama crap
This movie had so much potential but it was ruined by all the drama surrounding the pregnant woman. I pretty much skipped through the movie. That's how boring, slow-going and predictable the movie was. That being said, there were certain scenes that were really good and that's why I gave it a five.

Spider-Man: No Way Home
(2021)

What is the hype?
I decided to go see this movie because of the 8.9 rating, which was based on more than 200,000 reviews. Honestly, I am shocked. The movie was so boring that I actually fell asleep at one point. The plot was very childish and unnecessarily long. I heard that some people actually left the theater out of boredom. I assume the high rating was only possible because of such strong a fandom. Overall, I felt like I just lost 2.5 hours of my life.

Don't Look Up
(2021)

Two hours worth your time
This is a very unpredictable movie. You just let it take you where it takes you. Although the jokes were not that funny to me, I find the production and cast to be award-worthy. Very well-made. This is one of those movies which you have to see for yourself, period.

The Unforgivable
(2021)

A depressing, yet very good movie
In all honesty, I do not like this version of Sandra Bullock. I like to see her glamorous, smart and kind. But I do love the movie! I find the plot to be captivating throughout. The acting was excellent. Be warned that this movie can be depressing for some people. I get this same uneasy feeling after watching "Crash (2004)". Overall, I highly recommend this movie.

Halloween Kills
(2021)

Shame to the original Halloween
I am a pretty lenient rater. But this movie is so bad that I cringed several times in the theater. Acting was horrible. Plot was horrible. I am surprised that Jamine Lee Curtis was actually the producer. It was so bad to the point where it became ridiculous. Avoid at all costs!

A Boy Called Christmas
(2021)

Maginificently good
Been waiting for a good christmas movie for my end of year happiness. This movie makes it happen for me. The characters, production and storyline are just on point. I love the storytelling style of this movie. Makes me really happy.
