Intruder
(2008)

Nice change from the common serial slasher form!
To be honest, I'm not a horror genre\slasher film enthusiast but a student of mine recommended INTRUDER to me so during the most recent storm that buried the east coast I thought I'd stay home and give it a whirl. The first thing that struck me about INTRUDER was that it had a slick visual style to go along with solid editing. The film wasn't inundated with buckets of blood but rather kept my interest with its psychological motif. The acting was more accomplished than the usual low-budget horror film and it was clear to me that the director has talent. If you're going to give INTRUDER a go, keep an open mind because there is more beneath the surface of this film than the traditional low-budget horror works that get churned out on a daily basis. It was a very nice surprise.

Fallen Arches
(2000)

Two thumbs way up!
A slick film with a visual style from a first rate director. The performances are good, especially Justin Louis as "Duke" and Peter Ornorati as "Charlie." Tamara Braun of "General Hospital" fame shows she's more than a soap opera queen as "Jenny." The relationship between the "Romano Brothers" is believable and moving. Ron Cosentino directs the film at a fever pitch and his use of imagery and locations (shot throughout the streets of Hollywood and L.A.) makes this an enjoyable viewing experience. Honorable mention is given to veteran actress Karen Black as the hard working waitress mother of the Romano's whose dreams for her boys are drowned in her barfly persona. Carmine Giovinazzo is also good in the lead as Frankie Romano. I hope to see more films from Cosentino in the future.
