Dune: Part Two
(2024)

Wonderful
I had very high expectations for this film and was still satisfied. It is nearly 3 hours long but never feels like it drags as every scene is either interesting, exciting, well acted or beautifully shot. There is no filler in this movie, every shot feels like it has purpose or artistic quality. Every actor knocks it out of the park too. There are no bad performances at all and there are no modern hollywood tropes that take you out of the world that has been built by Villeneuve and the production team. It is a serious and sombre film, a sci fi adaptation made with adults in mind - less so an action film and more a meditation on power, religion, vengeance and politics.

1917
(2019)

Visual poetry
1917 is a beautiful film set amidst both brutal and picturesque natural environments. The cinematography is some of the best ive ever seen. The score was equally brilliant and the acting was flawless. One of the best war films of the last decade.

Captive State
(2019)

Better than i anticipated
Better than i expected, though not exceptional. Political/rebellion thriller that isnt overloaded with action. I enjoyed the way the film didnt treat you like a child and spoon feed you everything.

Joker
(2019)

Possibly a modern masterpiece
A sharp, refreshing and disturbing detour from a decade of comic book family adventures. You'll find no candyfloss or 1 dimensional villains here. You'll find a painfully real story of a mentally ill outcast pushed too far, while the city and its social services crumble from neglect. Phoenix gives an oscar worthy performance in his portrayal of a man turning from childlike hope and vulnerability to madness, strength, vengeance and darkness.

Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne
(2019)
Episode 6, Season 8

Painful to watch.
Just felt very flat and anti climactic. The show has merely been going through the motions of ending the show without earning it in the slightest. The dragon burning the iron throne was unintentionally funny though and Jon attempting to defend dany to tyrion was pretty amusing. Quite enjoyed how easily grey worm, the unsullied, the dothraki and the dragon were subdued after their queen was murdered....meh. Great show, great actors, great music, great special effects, terrible final season of writing. The show was basically murdered this season (and part of last season) by the rushed and careless writing. It's almost painful to watch.

Game of Thrones: The Long Night
(2019)
Episode 3, Season 8

Disappointing
What happened to gritty, reality based game of thrones? What happened to the storyline and buildup to the greatest threat ever known? Dark cgi and plot armour. What a Dissappointment. The night king and the white walkers have been built up for the better part of a decade of TV just to have arya jump out of nowhere and stab the night king before he or bran utters a word or a moment is shared between them. The fact pretty much all the main characters survived this episode is frankly laughable considering they were literally swimming in the dead. At one point Sam was buried in a mountain of zombies stabbing frantically and he LIVED! It was ludicrous.

Game of Thrones: The Bells
(2019)
Episode 5, Season 8

Ridiculous
The writing on these last few episodes has been completely ridiculous. It has basically become a different show. So Dany decides to suddenly burn random women and children instead of going after cersi (WHO KILLED HER BEST FRIEND) because...? Dany's turn towards madness has been totally unearned and just thrown in because it had to be thrown In. Painfully obvious...had me laughing. A handful of arrows kill danys' other dragon yet she destroys the iron fleet and all other scorpion arrow launchers in seconds? The golden company (20,000 men) are destroyed in a few more seconds? The dothraki have been risen from the dead? Jamie vs euron?? Jamie Arc rushed and nonsensical and cersi having a nice cuddle before rocks fall on her head while spouting boring dialogue? But hey, arya staring at a white horse is all I really wanted anyway, who cares about plot, logic, realism and characters....."doesn't matter just get it over with" Is what the writers have opted for this season.
