The Shield
(2002)

I think there is an anti-Shield campaign going on
Maybe it's the cops, other network shows, or Shawn Ryan and Chiklis p'd off someone because the camera work is not as shaky as say Bourne Supremacy, that individuals can't follow the storyline. That is an idiotic argument against the show.

First and foremost the realistic aspect should not be mention considering that the show is based on The Rampart division and the police corruption from that division. David Mack is the DE facto basis of Vic Mackey who was involved with Suge Knight and worked with Blood gang members of that region, and many have him involved in the murder of Tupac Shukur on behalf of Suge. He was flashy and arrogant, and no doubt a rogue cop. The whole thing with Kern(Sticky Fingaz character) twist some of those facts in there. Mack and members from his team is in jail right now for bank robbery which was caught on tape.

I've heard people say that is vulgar, but just like with Deadwood, these people actually talk like this. Not to mention the 10 o'clock Tuesday slot for FX shows more mature HBO/Showtime style programming, so anyone saying anything about content and language is being naive and prudish.

From the writing and story lines to the fast pace chase scenes to the acting and guest appearance of Glenn Close, Anthony Anderson, and Forrest Whittaker, The Shield is exceptional, and besides 24 is as good as network television gets. It's like the only program that can compare to the great show that are seen on HBO programming.

Belly
(1998)

Please do not compare this film with Reservoir Dogs
Stylistically I love Hype's visuals. He should get kudos for his cinematography work, which is present in all his videos also. However, whoever made the comment comparing this to Reservoir Dogs has got to be a friend or relative of Hype's. Dogs was focused. The plot was simple: find the person who ruined the heist and/or why did the heist go wrong. Period. Not to mention Quentin can write circles around Nas and the other cat responsible for the screenplay.

It was not the year in the life of two dealers with 300 subplots that go with it. And the going to Africa and finding the Minister where all rushed ideas and plot functions. The acting is nowhere near Kietel, Buscemi, Roth, Penn or Madsen. There are one liners in Belly, but nothing that really stands out (accept "let's go to Africa." which is asinine.)

I heard Hype is going to do the new Superfly movie. I hope he doesn't screw that up as well. I'm giving Belly a 4/10.

Wyatt Earp
(1994)

I usually am indifferent about Costner, however
in some people's criticisms of the flick I usually see "he was dull" or "he didn't give the character life," and I have to disagree. In actuality he gave the best rendition of the real Wyatt Earp and his life. The movie is a biopic, and for historians like myself it served its purpose, in showing the life and true personality of a figure Hollywood overglamourized. Wyatt Earp was not the type to dance in the snow and was indeed a cold hearted SOB. I prefer this to Tombstone and no doubt Costner was better than Russell. And actually Quaid was the better Doc. I wouldn't say it was a classic movie and spaghetti western versions of the story might be more "entertaining," however the darkness of Costner's movie is chilling and is the version that gets more replay value from me.

Thursday
(1998)

I liked it more the first time I seen it.
I love the premise, but it's replay value is only for certain parts(the opening scene of course). Some characters are a bit outrageous, but they are entertaining none the less. I think the Ballping sh-t was pushing it. I know it was to show that Nick and Casey were living foul out in LA and to show why Casey quit the lifestyle, I just think that the flashback's story could have been better. Also the Jamaican guy rapping on the phone is clever and entertaining, but once again I think the story was told sloppy. It really seems unbelievable. I actually believe Swordfish (the other movie Woods has written) more than some of the parts in Thursday because the government keeps sh-t a secret all the time, and has organizations set up that the public will never know about.

Thursday is the best Quentinesque movie I've seen. I think Woods is imaginative, clever and has witt; however, his work needs more maturation to even to get to the Natural Born Killer script (not Stone's movie) level. How old is he anyway?
