Bros
(2022)

BROS is one of the best romantic comedies in the past decade
BROS is one of the best romantic comedies in the past decade

Billy Eichner, Luke Macfarlane and the rest of the cast inject this film with necessary representation, non-stop laughs and especially genuine human depth.

I was scared this would be as generic as the trailers made it out to be, but the trailers really undersell how funny and genuine the film is.

I'm a bit mixed on director Nicholas Stoller's filmography so this may be a hot take/recency bias talking but I think BROS is his best directed film.

I hope this film gets the theatrical success it deserves since comedies/romantic comedies/genuine great movies are a dying breed especially in the theatrical sense.

Prey
(2022)

Starts off slow but when the action starts IT STARTS
It's amazing what Dan Trachtenberg is able to do with this movie and 10 Cloverfield Lane.

In this movie he was able to rejuvenate a dead franchise by going back to basics and infusing passion creativity and above all else simplicity.

In 10 Cloverfield Lane he was able to continue what audiences loved about Matt Reeves's Cloverfield, but also put his own stamp on that respective universe.

It's a shame he had to leave Uncharted, but we probably wouldn't have gotten Prey.

Anyways no matter what franchise or hell even what platform (theatres steaming Hulu If it's directed by Dan Trachtenberg I'M IN

P.s. I still need to watch both dan's black mirror episode and black mirror in general if the episode resembles dan's 2 other films I'll probably enjoy it.

Darlings
(2022)

Impressive directorial debut
Really enjoyed Darlings for several reasons primarily the fact that this is director's Jasmeet K Reen's first film.

The performances all across the board are great especially from Alia Bhatt who I personally thought was much better in this than Gangubai Kathiawadi.

Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Malayalee actor Roshan Mathew are also great.

The camerawork, pacing and songs/score are solid all around as well.

My only nitpicks are the themes the film discusses (mainly domestic violence) are a bit surface level, cartoonish or derivative of other Bollywood films.

Wedding Season
(2022)

Generic, predictable, but still enjoyable
Wedding Season is exactly what you expect.

From the premise and execution everything happens exactly as every other generic rom com.

That being said the performances and the chemistry between the two leads Suraj Sharma and Pallavi Sharda carry this movie from beginning to end.

Honor Society
(2022)

Good movie, but I would never rewatch it
The tone is inconsistent but the performances from Angourie Rice and Gaten Matarazzo and style from director Oran Zegman make this an enjoyable, but singular watch.

Nope
(2022)

Decent movie but not as good as Get Out or Us
Definitely my least favorite of Jordan Peele's films, but still a decent movie overall.

The performances, directing, cinematography, are all great.

The writing and the pacing are the biggest weaknesses.

Although the pros outweigh the cons, the cons are substantial enough for me to think this is a good movie, but it easily could've been a great one.

The Gray Man
(2022)

Painfully generic
This movie is every generic trope from every other generic action movie.

The only decent part is the acting from Ryan gosling, Ana de Armas, Jessica henwick, Alfre Woodard, billy bob thorton, and Dhanush.

I thought Chris Evans was miscast or maybe he's simply not meant for villain roles

The dialogue was the worst part of all.

The Russo brothers direction felt emotionless, even with the new drone technology I was never invested in the action, plot, or characters.

Overall, this is over 2 hours of my life I'll never get back and I defiantly don't want to see more of this "universe"

Vaashi
(2022)

Vaashi is an above average film
Good performances from Tovino Thomas and Keerthy Suresh; Unfortunately it doesn't compensate for mediocre directing, writing and pacing.

You know you're movie isn't good when your favorite aspect is the editing.

I definitely didn't hate the movie, but it's very safe and made no room for discussion.

The Black Phone
(2021)

One of my favorite movies of 2022
This movie has one of my favorite movie line from one of my favorite performances from (probably) one of my favorite movies of the year thus far.

Scott Derrickson directs the hell of The Black Phone. From the tension, performances, score and once again the sensational direction; The Black Phone proves to be a worthy horror/thriller.

As of today I've yet to see most of Derrickson's horror filmography, but this film tells me Derrickson has a lot to say in the horror genre.

The Adam Project
(2022)

Mediocre all around
Just a mediocre movie from the performances (except mark ruffalo who barely saves the movie) the writing, the directing and the visuals. I didn't expect much from The Adam Project and somehow got less than that.

Turning Red
(2022)

Another solid entry in the Pixar filmography
Turning red has exactly what all Pixar fans want. Beautiful animation, great performances, a good message, and a short and sweet running time. Domee Shi clearly put her heart and soul into this project and it shows.

The Batman
(2022)

Not as GREAT as people are saying, but still pretty good
From the performances, cinematography, score and direction The Batman has a lot to offer

The derivative story beats and runtime could use some adjustment

Nevertheless, minor flaws and all The Batman is supposedly of a new franchise and universe and I can't wait to see what's next.

Fresh
(2022)

Enjoyable thriller
The ending is a bit rushed and the third act is slower compared to the second and first, but with good performances, captivating cinematography and solid direction, Fresh culminates into an enjoyable thriller.

After Yang
(2021)

Mixed bag
Good performances, beautiful visuals, but the dialogue is stilted and the pacing is slow. The good outweighs the bad, but this is a movie I just liked that I easily could have loved.

I Want You Back
(2022)

Definitely Scott Eastwood's best movie
Really enjoyed this which makes sense since Jason Orley's previous film Big Time Adolescence was one of my favorites of 2020.

Now his second feature I Want You Back is one of my favorites of 2022.

Charlie Day and Jenny Slate are an endearing duo and Gina Rodriguez and Scott Eastwood are just as good as their respective exes.

It is a cheesy and predictable, but with Orley's direction the film has layers and heart.

Gehraiyaan
(2022)

what a complex film
In all seriousness I enjoyed this Good performances direction and cinematography a tad bit long and melodramatic and the third act goes off the rails, but the major highlights trump the minor flaws.

The Sex Lives of College Girls: Welcome to Essex
(2021)
Episode 1, Season 1

Good pilot
Solid pilot funny dialogue I care about all the characters trailer was cringy but glad I was proven wrong by the first episode will definitely continue watching.

Ted Lasso: No Weddings and a Funeral
(2021)
Episode 10, Season 2

Never gonna give you up
Another great Ted lasso episode

Great acting from Jason Sudekeis and Hannah Waddingham

Solid balance between drama and comedy

Ted lasso proves once again why it's one of the best comedies right now but also why it has the best dramatic moments as well.

Stillwater
(2021)

Like 3 movies in one and it kind of works
Matt Damon gives a great performance and Tom McCarthy proves The Cobbler was a temporary misfire and brings the same distinct sensibilities to this film as he brought to Spotlight, Timmy Failure and The Visitor (still need to see his other films)

P. S. Mychael Danna's score seems mismatched at times and didn't reflect the accurate tone of the film.

The Green Knight
(2021)

Slow but spell binding experience
The green knight is definitely a slow movie, but what it lacks in pacing it delivers with stellar performances visceral visuals and distinct directing prowess from David Lowery.

Old
(2021)

Good movie Return to form for m Night
I enjoyed it

Honestly shocked how low the reviews are

Night directs it well , performances are good solid casting overall

Some awkward writing, but not a detriment to the film.

Black Widow
(2021)

Disappointing
Scarlet gets sidelined in her own movie also just bizarre acting and clunky writing for her. Felt like she was playing herself not Natasha in a bad way.

Florence and David save the movie and simultaneously steal every scene.

Rachel Weisz was fine but it felt like most of her scenes involved exposition.

Action was fine, but it was hard to tell who was fighting who.

Comedic bit were good. However, one was very unnecessary the other was ill timed.

Overall, the movie is fine, nevertheless the negatives outweigh the positives in my book.

F9
(2021)

Fun but uneccesarily chaotic
I had fun with this movie.

However it is definitely lower tier fast and furious movie.

I think it's better than 1 2 4 and Hobbs and shaw.

But worse than 3 5 6 7 8.

The main issue is the action. It felt too random and that anything could happen in a bad way.

The emotional crux of the story is there, but a bit contrived.

I also thought Sung Kang and John Cena didn't have much to do and were just set up for the next installments.

Superman & Lois: A Brief Reminiscence In-Between Cataclysmic Events
(2021)
Episode 11, Season 1

GENIUS
As everyone has stated genius episode. You think it's' a traditional flashback episode that might not further the plot, but nope it's a 2 in 1 traditional flashback episode AND it furthers the plot. Also, I love the acting from everyone, but especially Tyler and Bitsie; they are currently the definitive Superman and Lois!

iCarly
(2021)

Jerry Trainor is the main reason to watch
Jerry trainor is as funny as before, Miranda cosgrove and Nathan kress return to their roles with ease. The new additions to the cast will take some time to resonate but so far they seem to fit right in with the rest of the cast. Some jokes land, but some don't, the laugh track is definetely more annoying than the previous iteration.
