Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
(2004)

Very strange movie
I thought that this movie would have been a lot better if you could see the characters better. The screen was so dark that you got the idea that they were saving money on the lighting so that they could have more CGI. The plot was OK, typical comic book fare, the plot was so-so. I'm sure that there will be a number of people who will like this movie as is because it is so different. The problem, as I saw it was that the characters were too vapid and strained. When you could see the actors faces, an element of wonder took place, as you know that there are objects that were not real. I liked the 1940ish atmosphere. But, I would have enjoyed it more if it had been lighter and not so gloomy.

Intriguing action film, but low real US Navy identity
As a retired USN Master Chief I found the action scenes to be interesting and entertaining but was not convinced that the actors made their audience believe that they were submariners, or even- sailors. I know that a sailor would never get away with direct disobedience of an Officer's order as Palladino did without severe consequences during WWII. The underwater scenes were weak and the models just passable. Must not have had a real submariner for Technical Adviser....be I did get the feeling that the leaky, squirting episodes represented the condition of an old boat. The German sailors, on the other hand, seemed more realistic. For that matter, I doubt that the US Sailors could have put up much of an offense.
