Merry Christmas
(2024)

Very very Slow Burn ... never reaching any great heights
Firstly.. I think ANDHADHUN was an outstanding film worthy of inclusion in the Top 25 of indian cinema. I went to see Merry Christmas with anticipation both beause of the Director and the cast. Suffice to say ,.. as a Bombayite I loved the old world Bombay depicted in the film but as far as the film itself goes .. IT WAS PAINFULLY SLOW .. took literally an hour to build up the atmosphere .. I think the actors (esp Vijay Sethupathi) were kind of wasted in a role that clearly did not merit an actor of his caliber. This is a B grade Whodunit and all the positive spin in the reviews is not going to change that. To compare this to Hitchcock is sacrilege and I'm certain Sriram Raghavan will agree.. I look forward to much better work from him.

House of Cards
(2013)

Season 6 is a terrible watch
I enjoyed every bit of HOC 1-5.. Both the lead actors and the supporting cast were excellent.. Season 6 is Dull as Ditchwater.. A painful watch.. If they did this so that the hundreds of workers on the show wouldn't lose their jobs that's sad.. The show which IMHO was the shining star of the Netflix stable has crashed and burned.. Robin Wright is a great actress but without Kevin Spacey, her acting is insipid and boring to say the least.. For HOC fans, stay with the happy memories of Seasons 1-5.this leaves a bitter aftertaste

Now You See Me

Excellent Summer watch
It's amazing that all ordinary viewers who have seen this movie by and large love it while the critics have almost as a group given it the Thumbs Down ... is this a sinister plot to can the movie and it's makers or is it that critics really don't get what makes for a great cinematic experience.

While I agree that the four Horsemen aren't well fleshed out, they are loads of fun individually and as a group, and together the 2 titans (Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine) who add enormous credibility to the proceedings, make for a real cinematic delight.

I guess critics don't like to applaud an intelligent, crisp and entertaining caper that provides real entertainment. For them the duller the better - watching paint dry would definitely earn an Oscar nod for some of these guys .. get a life guys
